Carlos Mendes, with 2 goals? Wow, either he went all out training this off-season or Atlanta is really, really bad.
Ayoze scored a goal at the LB position... Defense scored the first 3 with Mads representing the strikers by getting the header at the 74th minute... So basically the first time any of these gents scored a goal for the Cosmos...
I was pleasantly surprised by Mauer, not a completely error free game, but he showed great reflexes and good poise. He still has a great deal to improve, not a bad start to the season though. Cosmos defense is no joke, I don't think ATL got one clean shot on goal all game. Ayoze is amazing with the ball, he made those guys look like kids a couple of times. In the mid Sena pulls the strings, but I was impressed by the improvement in Guenzati's game. He has gotten stronger( second goal he takes a player out shoulder to shoulder) and more accurate with his passing. Up front Mads showed some promise, he made good runs and some good passes. IMO he could have had three goals last night, As the season progresses, he will get better. Great night at the stadium, good to be back! Feels great to be a Cosmos Supporter!!
Yes... He's been on the mend for awhile now. He should see action in the spring season at some point.
I actually spoke to Hans a couple of weeks ago. I asked him to put a % on where he was with his knee and he wouldn't comment. I'm really hoping that he is healed for the US of pen cup because the Cosmos will definitely need him,
Actually the Cosmos defense was not that sharp at all on Sunday. And as far as clean shots, in my opinion, Atlanta got plenty of them off. I recall in the first half Mauer had to make a double save which ended in him making a leaping diving save that made the supporters section crazy. In fact, he actually made 12 saves that day. Last year opponents averaged less than 7 shots off against Cosmos goalies. The fact that Mauer had to save that many tells me that their defense wasn't the sharpest. As far as Guenzatti and Stokkelien are concerned, I agree with your points. Guenzatti made a beautiful center pass into Stokkelien for the final goal and just minutes after that Guenzatti almost put one in himself with a header off of a Roversio deflection. He has been steadily picking his game up from last year and he credits coach Gio for that. Also, Stokkelien seemed to always be in place for a goal. Once his teammates learn to find him effectively, he is going to score a lot of goals! Good chatter here!
I was pretty drunk...but i really never felt for a second Atlanta was that threatening. They managed a couple decent half chances but the rest of the "shots" where routine efforts and easily dealt with. Most of their pressure, occurred after being down 3-0 already and the match well in the Cosmos hand. Got to say, that is last year's struggles in front of goal are behind us....this could be a very lopsided 2014 season.
Based on how we lined up vs Atlanta i think Hans and Nosselli are in competition with each other, so if Hans can't go i have all the confidence in the world in Nosselli.
