I have posted about this before but nationality takes on greater importance when you consider the squad quotas for the league. Securing Shaw would not only fill an immediate need but his nationality is an added bonus for the duration of his time here.
Indeed. All I'm saying is that beyond his athletic abilities, he's not particularly special in any regard. There's nothing wrong with that - 18 is very young and he can easily develop a lot of the technical skills needed to be a very good lb. Many fullbacks get by purely on athletic ability.
Compared to top LBs right now, his technical skills aren't amazing, certainly. But for an 18 year old, they're very impressive.
Shaw is 18 and a Top Level talent. He has good physical attributes, can carry the ball, cross and even has a good shot on him plus good positional sense way beyond his years. Only concern would be is he ready to be a starter at United and 30 M for a LB would be OTT. Out of the other options i have been impressed with what i've seen of Ricardo Rodriguez. Other than that dunno who is there ? Alex Sandro not seen much. Coentrao would be good, but defensively he is bit of a concern in PL. Moreno whenever i have seen him against top opponents he struggles defensively though he is good going forward.
Btw, what's the opinion on Ivan Rakitic on here ? Seems Very good every time i have seen him, almost exactly the sort of player we need. I think he can play as a 8 for us too and give decent output in terms of goals/assists/ creativity which we lack. More realistic option than Kroos, Gundogan, Koke i imagine.
I will add a caveat. While Nani is indeed a confidence player and his best form comes when he's feeling the love, Nani is always dangerous. I distinctly recall a match people referred to as one of Nani's worst. He was subbed off at the half and in the first half he created 5 chances. While he wasn't at his best, he was still dangerous. You can sometimes go a month without 5 chances created by Younglencia.
It depends on what the comparison is - if it's other left backs or even players his age, he is top class. If it's other players values around 30m, particularly left backs, it becomes More of a debate.

I have liked what I have seen of him...I would say he would be able to play reasonably well in our team....But given an option between him and Herrera I would probably go for the latter....
Likewise. Don't like all the stories coming out recently re: Danny, Smalling, Chicha going. I know a lot of it will be just paper talk, but often some foundation via the players agents etc. The suggestion that we would be happy for players to leave concerns me most. Even if you take the extreme position that these players are not starters we will weaken our squad considerably if we let these types of players go. Also, if we create a culture from Moyes / Woodward that if players are not happy the club will not stand in their way which Moyes stated when trying to sign others, that will backfire big-time. I hate to respect anything Liverpool have done, but their stance over retaining Suarez when he wanted to leave and was contractually meant to be let go has been spot-on and is paying dividends now.
Danny does not seem the type to leverage a move away to boost salary (pull a Rooney). If he is genuinely unsettled, add that to the list for Moyes.

I have to ask: why are you guys interested in Kroos? It seems like you already have Mata, Rooney, and to a lesser extent Januzaj for Kroos's best position.
