Let's not be knee-jerk. Today aside he's been average at best in the Premier League when given chances.
Wickham has played well quite a few times for Sunderland but has never been given a proper run of games. He's always in and out of squads and then loaned out. Spending all that money on him and then having no plan of how to develop him for the best sums alot of things up about how it is in the PL bringing players through. The way his season has gone has been ridiculous. At least he's now getting a run of games to gain a fair crack of the whip so to speak.
I'm not saying on that alone he should make the squad, although I guess I made it look like that. He has done well with the U21's and just hope Southgate gives him a game.
And when I saw City had scored two goals I'd thought for a sec they'd won. What a time and game for the Wicker Man to score twice. By the way the second was a cracker.
Sorry mate, I've just realised it was someone ELSE that had the initial strike and Wickham nipped in to grab the goal. He did well on that but, tbh, I thought he might have been marginally offside. I might be wrong about that though.
I'm wondering who is eligible for the Toulon Tournament at the end of May? A complication is the Euro u19 Elite Qualifiers being played at the same time.
93 is the Morrison, Wickham, Butland Chaloba, Wisdom, Keane twins, McEachran group. 94 the Powell group.
It will be interesting to see how many of the players get pulled out by the clubs on the eve of the tournament claiming that they are suffering from injuries like dislocated hair follicle's and compound fracture of the finger nail that will prevent them from taking part
I think Wickham starting at the weekend meant that it was the first time he had played three PL games in a row for Sunderland since he moved.
Potential players to miss the Toulon - Championship play-offs - Will Hughes, Andre Wisdom, George Thorne, Patrick Bamford, Will Keane, Ravel Morrison, Josh McEachran, Nick Powell, Jake Forster-Caskey, Jamaal Lascelles and Jordan Obita. WC squad - Luke Shaw, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Raheem Sterling, John Stones and Ross Barkley.
True. Quite amazing that he was loaned out for a second time this season with the mess Sunderland were in only to then be recalled a month later. Still can't comprehend that.
AOC, Sterling, and Barkley should be going to the WC. Can't see Shaw going. There has been talk of Stones making the 30 man squad and maybe the 23 man squad, but I don't think he will make either. With playoffs do you mean they could get injuries or they will have no choice but to play for their clubs during the tournament?
Yeah our first Toulon game is on the 22nd May and the Championship play-off final is on the 24th May. So anyone making the final will not go.
