They would be on break not be playing right now. Weather is the least of the practical problems in connection with the switch

Would they? Possible, but not certain. Different European Leagues take different breaks.

I'm sure we can squeeze a couple more meaningless NT friendlies in.

But we can be playing in warm climate cities such as Atlanta and Orlando. They never get weather where the highs would be 25 and 47 respectively so we would be ok.

MlS moves to a split season once they expand to 24 teams. MLS would be off from Christmas to around mid February. When the season resumes, the following cities would get home games : Orlando, Galaxy, Chivas (can play Sunday), Montreal (dome), Toronto (dome) , San Jose , Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Austin TX, and 1 more team - maybe NYCFC if they can build a dome? Is Seattle bad in Feb? These teams would get back to back home games. Then March starts and it's back to business as usual. no big deal.

No, no, no. December weather sucks in many of the same places places, so you're talking about 2-3 games on the road before the break, the break, then 2 games or so on the road after the break. Annual long road trips (and the make up long home stands) aren't a "solution" to the problem. And your "solution" is for teams who are finally controlling their own revenue by owning their own stadiums to go back to renting to play in a dome? Why are we making this change again? Seems like a lot of going backwards.

With that break, MLS may only gain 3-4 weeks and wouldn't that mean that MLS would just respect FIFA dates for once.

Actually the December weather is not that bad. I’m from New York and December has been ok the last few years. It’s January and February that is freezing cold. And what is two games for TFC and Montreal playing at domes? From what we’ve seen in the past, they’ve had no problems selling out or getting close to selling out. After paying rent, they would probably make the same money as if they were playing in their 20,000 seat stadiums. We are making this change for various reasons:

    - To align with the rest of the world. So that the international FIFA dates don’t clash. So we are also on the same page with Transfer windows.

    - I’d rather watch the MLS Championship game in May/June. This year’s final was great but it was so cluttered with NCAA Football, NFL. I’d rather the MLS Playoffs compete with NHL and NBA than NCAA Football, NFL, and MLB.

P.S. If no one likes Austin as an expansion team, you could swap that out with a Vikings-owned Minnesota team as they will be playing in the Vikings stadium that has a retractable roof.

Stuff happens when you resod the field in mid-November and you get hit with an ice storm in late November which kills the roots.

There's so much wrong with this post, it would be hard to top it.

The retractable roof was ditched, due to budget.

    Good job

They are using some new technology. Kind of like going to the zoo except the stadium will have two huge doors so air can go in the stadium.

I could understand what happened and saw on the twitter page that it was taken out after the last game, but I was still really surprised it was as bad as it was for that game.

What's a door? And if it's anything like this "fire" thing my friends just showed me, I want no part of it, that stuff really hurts.

Let me break this down and show how MLS will still not be able to take all international dates off minus WC and GC.

Season Starts first August weekend goes thru 2nd week December. 20 Weeks (19-20 games per teams)
Break from Mid Dec to Mid Feb
Mid Feb to End of May 15 weeks to play 14 regular season games plus playoffs

So how does MLS take international dates off with this schedule?

Current MLS playoffs do not take place during MLB playoffs.
NFL doesn't play on Saturdays during MLS Cup

I have said this plenty of times but current TV Networks actually have a more jammed packed schedule in May than they do in November.

NBC showed 9 MLS playoff games
ESPN showed 5 MLS playoff games
14 of 15 games were on National Broadcasts.

I can tell you in May NBCSN will not have the timeslots for 9 playoff games
ESPN will not have the slots for 5 games either between NBA playoffs and MLB games and NFL Draft(which is now in May)

I guess being the first of its kind isn't new. Regardless it will be a nice stadium for the NFL but on the other hand MLS probably not so much.
