I have two thought. Short camp short roster is my first thought... prolly 21 players and pick 18 for the match. My second thought is since they agreed to a home and home they should have done the games back to back. Play the following weekend indoors in Canada. Two game home and homes r always interesting to me at least because the first result usually carries over to the next game.

The interesting thing is that we are doing another short camp, D Matheson said that Canada is in the middle of an extended 3 month training camp.

So when u add the two Russian friendlies in it looks something like this. They do a camp from Jan 8 to 18. Then they give them the week off. They bring them back Jan 28 and play games on Jan 31 (Canada), Feb 8 & 12 (Russia) which gives them another two week camp.

Bring Ally Courtnall or get rid of Hermann. to me he has been all talk and no results. outside of sinclair's great ogs, canada has been on a slide with him. This guy has access to the same college players and talent the USWNT has access to.

    NewSouth's Bad Coach Awards

    Herdmann - Canada
    Cuéllar - Mexico
    Rizzo - Colombia

a little to harsh on Herdman, he got bronze at the Olympics. Not too shabby for a country ten times less the population of the US! At least he don't keep dinosaurs on his squad & bringing up youth players a lot faster than Pia or even TS. I was impressed with at least the 18 year old cb, Buchanan & 16 year old fb, Yekka, though the 15 year old mid, Fleming, still got some growing up to do. We'll see how good this kids are at the u17 & u20 wc later on this year. What Herdman really needs is a play maker .
How old is Courtnall? maybe she can still play in the wc? and remember sometimes these college kids are really more interested in studying for college exams!(than making commitments for the low paying world of women's soccer)

Interesting about the Herdman comments. I think Canada could have had a silver or gold if Herdman had not been posturing and shooting his mouth off about the "highly illegal" tactics of the U.S., which in my mind caused the U.S. players to keep a closer eye on Canadian tactics. We all know how that turned out. But does that make him good or bad? Is he a great coach who just constantly shoots himself in the foot?

Personally, I don't like the trash talk about other teams - it seems unprofessional, especially when compared to other national coaches. I have to think that Canada could have had some better results lately, with all their talent, if they had a different sort of coach. Not better, maybe, just different. But I guess this is getting into a different type of thread so I'll just say that I'm really looking forward to this match...

Its probably like 3 weeks followed by a one week -10 day break or by a game and a short break, not 3 months straight with no free time.

Hopefully they get the field in better condition by the time of this game. It's horrible right now for the FCS National Championship Game.

No. If we're thinking of the same keeper, she's still very young and has plenty of time.

I seriously don't understand the over reaction on Franch not making the team. Great, she had a good season for WNY. Let us she her reproduce that consistently. Also, GK must be the hardest position to crack on this team and Franch has a good chance given her age but it clearly is not her time yet.

And, at WNY she did make the occasional boo boo, in between some really great work. GKs don't have much margin for error, so more time and seasoning may be in order.

    fair enough.

but why pick gks she is clearly better than.

imo, she is clearly better than all in that list except hope and maybe barnhardt.

Simple. If you wanted to keep a core intact, would you bring in the one person constantly who can push the person on the fringe of the core? See Franch next cycle because that's how FC USWNT and USSoccer works.

    1 Morgan #2 and Sinclair #1 - Portland
2 Press - Chicago for Brian Cushing
3 Wambach reduced practice minutes for more 90 min games

    What's Next?

You really think that is true after one season in the pros?

As no one seems to put Franch one or two the argument comes down to what do they gain by making her number three
    Pros
she attends more camps and works with the coaches
she gets to go thru a world cup with the team
    Cons
    she is less experienced
they dont have to give her a full contract
    possibly makes someone edgy :whistling:

Either way u look at it unless there is an injury, Im not sure it's worth arguing about unless Franch is at least number two.

I'd like one of our GK poster to say something on this -- MRAD, are you there? My question has to do with field management, not skills making saves. How good is Franch it directing her defenders, as compared to the others? Do the USWNT defenders know and have confidence in her, as compared to the others? Am I right that these are important issues in evaluating a GK?

I don't have any idea what the answers are to these questions or even whether they're really important. That's why I'd like to hear from some of our posters with GK experience.

    yes.

but i'm always quick to say that i have a limited view which means squat to the coaches. i'd just like to know why they pick others ahead of her.

eg. cpthomas' questions are good ones.

Kelly O'Hara has been added to the camp roster. She is apparently towards the end of her rehab.

Will be good to see her back.
