It's been two years with the same primary and secondary jerseys, we should see some changes for 2014. We will be adding a 3rd jersey, kind of, it won't be out to October. Since the Chicago Flag jersey didn't win the 3rd jersey contest, maybe they can make it our secondary jersey next year. I don't have a problem with our current secondary jersey, but I'd rather have a Chicago Flag jersey.

I already have plans to not buy any more Fire jerseys after that BS contest. Not even going to wear them anymore. I'll never say never as my son may want one in the future.

I'd probably be pretty pissed if they decided to make a main jersey off a runner up from the contest.
Thats not really fair and because they did what they did and received what was probably hundreds of the identical "Flag" jersey designs, we should't see a flag jersey...i'd say...in my lifetime.

Bury that flag design way back in the abyss of your mind.

Also, I'm sure the white stripe will return in 2014. But thats not the style change i really give a city rats ass about for the Fire.

I'm not sure I understand your rage. The Fire put it to a vote, and the fashionable black kit won out over the flag kit. I don't think it should have happened, I don't think most of Section 8 thought it should happen, but when it comes down to it, as has proved true in other places, the average fan likes a black, fashionable kit (or an argyle one, apparently)

People look at the black and think its the kind of thing they could wear around town. I don't think the average person looks at a sky blue kit with for big red stars on it and thinks the same.

I'd say I would respect the Fire a lot more if, after having seen the support for a flag kit (even if it lost the vote), they turned around and offered the fans one anyways.

I, for one, intend to purchase a Mike Magee #9 black jersey. Unless the redesigned primaries are nice.

Edit: Wait, the third jersey won't be available until October? I thought they said it would be available towards the beginning of the next season.

So the contest has 2 winners then?

Or they just take the only possible design for a true flag shirt (Which was one of the 3 finalists, which was probably 1/500 submitted like that) and make it their own style and show the runner up a big middle finger?

If we're going to have a white top next season why don't we just pick the other runner up's design? But since a white one was a finalist, that tells me they already know the 2 designs and one is not white.

I don't see how it would be giving a middle finger to the person who designed it?

Hi, your design didn't win. Even though it looks similar to 2 other designs (2005 Fire shirt & the Red Stars shirt) we will be using the concept as our new alternate shirt. You will not receive credit since you cannot claim to have created the pattern of red stars on a white stripe between baby blue. That design belongs to the city of Chicago.

Having the white stripe on the shirt is much more important than having a flag jersey.

I can't believe anyone would think different. Let's first get the essential club identity recipe correct, then we can worry about the frosting.

I think to some it's simply fashion.

Fashion and football are not all that different when it comes to individual identity formation

I've been told only the home shirt is changing in 2014. The current away shirt will remain. Maybe that was the trade off for an alt shirt for 2014.

No, the third kit has been mandated for all teams. The keeping of the secondary kit is all about sales.

That doesn't make sense. We've had the same away for two years, I don't think any team has kept an adidas jersey longer than two season.

IIRC, the league is not mandating 3rd kits, but they are doing a "jersey week" in January where every team is supposed to unveil a shirt. We're still going to get new designs every two years, so we have to rearrange the previous schedule of replacing primary and secondary at the same time every two years. We'll keep the primary or secondary for a third season so we can get one new one every year.

It may not be publicly known but I remember hearing a third kit became mandatory. Maybe someone could inventory all MLS teams and see if all teams have one or one coming?

This is incorrect, third kits aren't mandatory. Adidas and MLS changed the cycle, meaning there will be a new primary or secondary kit every year but not both. I believe I heard this year is primary and 2015 will be secondary and so on.

The third kit contest just seems like something that was done at the behest of Jersey Week this year (a retroactive response) and depending on your opinion was perhaps poorly executed.
