These types of conditions can be put up with for a one off game such as the final--but if we were to switch to the euro calendar they might become a normal occurrence in the regular season before it's time to take a 10 week winter break. It's incredible to think this is only the beginning of December! I felt sorry for Lalas and the rest of the ESPN table crew everytime they were put on camera. Lalas looked as if he was freezing. 2o degrees on the field and with the wind chill it felt like 7 degrees! It's not a good situation.

Granted this year was crazy because of the forced "break" during the playoffs so we had MLS Cup in December. But I believe in previous years we have been able to wrap everything up by the end of November. I believe this should be our target--have MLS Cup and wrap everything up by the end of November. If this means playing a regular season that is a little shorter--then that's ok!

Re: the World Cup Draw---many are crying over the "bad luck" the USA had in being placed in a hard group, but in this i have to agree with the general attitude of coach Klinssman. The Rock would say"Just bring it jabronies." If you make it to the World Cup it's to test yourself against the best. If you advance in the tournament you want it to actually mean something. This is what four years of friendlies, preparations, and roster shuffling are all about. The only way you grow is by going against the hard teams. The one thing I ask of the Nats is to leave it all on the pitch and not be afraid of anyone. If they do that and lose there wont be anything to be ashamed of.

[QUOTEGARBER: Every owner that I’ve seen in my 30 years [in pro sports], they all have the same goal in mind. They want to make a difference. They really believe in the sport, in this case Major League Soccer. They want to create a legacy in their community or something that can help establish some contribution to something bigger than themselves, and they’d like not to lose money. Those are the things that drive Major League Soccer.][/QUOTE]

yeah. don is not at all a spin meister schill ... uh, hello?!? if vergara and kraft fit this definition than as they say "they iz do it wrong" ... vergara and kraft don't give much if at all of a sh!t about their local soccer communities (MLS wise) or MLS or wanting to make a difference (other than a negative one).

this is why i simply ignore most of everything don says ... it is either entirely vapid or completely disingenuous horsesh!t.

Most interesting part of the article: "While I love a 1-0 game as much as anybody else does, this is a game about dramatic moments and we should enforce the rules as the rules are meant to be enforced, which is that you can’t grab on and pull somebody down on a corner kick. That’s one of the things I would look hard to change going forward.."

Basically the same reason you are thought of so highly around here and generally ignored.

At least the Don has a reason. He is just spewing the company line like he has to...like any good CEO would...and anyone with a clue understands this.

    What's your excuse?

The game itself was tense and exciting--even going to the last field player for pk's (the next would've been the 2 goalkeepers!) Unfortunately the fact that this game did not feature "big markets" almost doomed it to small ratings right from the start. A ratings drop also happens in NHL and MLB also when the final features small market teams.

And I know I'm piling on here, but look a little deeper into the quote than he did:

Not only did Garber not say the team wouldn't be re-branded, he wouldn't even refer to them by name, instead using the generic 'second team in Los Angeles.' If you can get past the faux shock at a CEO speaking corporately, you can read something fairly significant in between the lines. . .
