Man Soldado is one ugly mofo. If he's Spain's #9, no wonder all their best 9s are false.

He wasn't French, he was Norman. Normans were Viking descendants and were distinct from France proper for hundreds of years after William's conquest.

There have been a few more invasions since then than Brits like to admit, but none have been truly successful.

bigman by bringing up how butthurt patriotic Americans are ALL THE TIME, you only make yourself look butthurt.

geographic removal from rival powers explains a lot of the imperial success of the UK and US. seaborne invasions of comparably armed civilizations are difficult, so the UK and US have been allowed to pick their spots more flexibly in European and NE Asian beef than have their peers

I think taking your shirt off should just be a red. Get it out of the game already, there's no need for it.

Fun fact. Iniesta was suppose to miss the 2009 ucl final as he was on a yellow but removed his shirt after he scored to make it 1-1 at Stamford bridge. The refs never noticed since it was brace :)

Though they would still have whipped that uninspired man utd side without him.

Maybe he's just hanging out with the wrong Americans?

Sucks that the world sees all of us in this way.

It's absolutely pathetic and an embarrassment to the game. No one wants to see how bulked up a dude because he scored a goal. It's just fcking stupid.

And why must the NFL always be brought up among soccer only people like yourself. Jesus Christ.

it is a bit off though. guy has to make a special effort to take his shirt off to ....er....do what? show an audience consisting in the very vast majority of grown men his naked torso? why....just why?
it is embarrassing when you think about it.
it's not like too many are shouting "YAY! now show us your sexy body" is it? what next....a couple of decades down the line and he gets his cock out and imitates a helicopter with it?

The real reason it's a yellow is because of $$$$$. Goal scorers have cameras focused on them and sponsors don't like it when they don't get their close ups. Shows how FIFA are garbage yet again. They quickly act on stupid shit like yellows for taking shirts off, neckwarmers and the like, but take years and years to implement meaningful positive changes like goal line tech, concussion rules etc etc. I'd much rather see some chiseled pecs than another sponsor logo close up, because fcuk the man.

Well not French in the sense that they are Frenchmen today, but by the time of the conquest, which was over a hundred years after the signing the land treaty with the French king, the small number of actual Norse that had immigrated intermarried, intermingled, spoke a language that bears a striking resemblance to French (More so than and current Scandinavian language), as well as dress, castle building and warfare, for all intensive purposes the Normans were 'french people'.

So please, enlighten us, why is 1066 referred to as the "Norman conquest of England," rather than the "French conquest of England?"
