er.. to add to the European colonial history discussion ;):

    - The British signed treaties with the native Americans for the mutual protection. If anything is one of the main reasons why the colonists revolted.

    - The Americans, long after the War and 1783 treaty, killed out millions of buffalo to exterminate the native Americans. I doubt the UK, with an Empire at the time, had means nor will to cause this. Same applies with Wounded Knee.

    - Let's not forget having still the biggest war in their history to end slavery (OK, the pedants will say that wasn't even the main cause, granted), the Tusgkee experiments, Jim Crow, using Chinese labour as fodder to build the Transcontinental Railroad(way), yeah, the US has a benevolent history.. ;)

In keeping with the thread, still lulzing at Spurs' crisis.

Should they lose to City, lol.. even Everton hold a better chance of European football than they do. And kudos to Martinez, at the least he's sustained Everton as a top 5/6 team.

Yes. We are a brutal kind. And largely ignorant, too. It's part of our charm.

The British Islands have been conquered so many times by so many different peoples that no one even knows who the natives are!

William the Conquerer was French!!! It's an island of Frenchies. It's an inexplicable miracle how their military was so successful.

actually, of the peoples anyone has really heard of, the britons and the picts (now commonly associated with scots) would be the originals, and the picts have moved back and forth between ireland and scotland a few times (they precede the celts in ireland). the britons moved westward and abroad when the germanic tribes arrived (hence wales, brittany, basque, and even cornish region cultures).
after the normans, almost a millenium ago now, no outside peoples have conquered the british isles (channel islands aside), at least in any military or population sense
no it isn't. the norman french (and roman for that matter) influx was mostly southern/midlands england and some small enclaves around the place. big influences but small in actual numbers of people.
btw. the norman invasion nearly failed. the english had already defeated a viking invasion literally days before in the north east and marched non stop to the south coast to go straight into another war with the normans.

    ok, history lesson over.....new thread?

And before then it was only the Romans, Angles, Saxons, Jutes, and Danes who conquered England. Did i leave anyone out?

    Let's do it!

no one is the last 1000 years, no.
you see though, you were hinting that being conquered is equal to supplanting of the population. the closest to that would be the angles and saxons in terms of any great mass change in population make up, and that was 1500 years ago and geographically limited mostly to the south eastern quarter of britain, but weakening further north and west.

DNA studies of the British population have been in the news recently. Can't quite remember where I was reading about it, but do remember there being some interesting results in regards to origin.

In college i had a book called the Atlas of World History, with a bunch of maps charting the various major population movements, especially from east to west. It was really fascinating, i wish i still had it. Anyway, what was this thread supposed to be about?

actually, we don't have lazer-eye-shooting bald eagles with which to address the folks we're not crazy about ...

    ... yet.

but we're working on it. and when we get it, you might want to think about hitting that 'edit' button, 'cause i don't know if that first sentence is gonna do enough fer ya.

Coming up to 2 full years without a penalty conceded!

They have now conceded two red cards in that time.
