Tucson/Pima County is already planning the 2014 Desert Cup and Friendlies. (10 MLS teams and 1 Mexican first division team) http://webcms.pima.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=169&pageId=47029 http://www.tucsonnewsnow.com/story/...spending-280000-to-pro-soccer-spring-training http://azstarnet.com/sports/soccer-...cle_2786f5d4-0548-5eed-9fd8-96a72ff1530c.html Florida gives MLS 1 million dollars for 10 teams. Southern AZ gives MLS 200k for 10 teams. Small difference between the two.
Actually what it says is Tuscon thinks the state of FL is giving MLS $1 million (confirmation?) for 10 teams and Tuson/Pima think that $200k will get the same job done. Good luck with that if true.
If a team accepts the money, they "have" to use it on advertising. "Leave the cold in (Insert City) and come down to sunny Tucson for spring training." They can't just pocket the money. But still 20k vs. 100k. And the MLS teams will know that the one First Division Mexican club competing in the tourney/friendlies received 80k, instead of 20k. Also, a team like the Revs could accept only 1 dollar for advertising, while a team like DC could accept 39,999 dollars for advertising.
Why would any MLS team go to Tuscon? Less money with higher expectations. I wonder if this is why Bradenton, FL has been making noise. Maybe they will offer more than Tuscon. The $1 million you mention is probably for the Disney tournament.
They haven't made the official announcement, but it looks like the San Diego Clasico will be having it's annual winter edition again this offseason featuring the Club Tijuana Xolos v ???
You keep spelling TUCSON wrong. Its TUC-SON, not TUS-CON. And yes, the $1 million is likely for the Disney tournament. I highly doubt it has anything to do with Bradenton. http://www.kvoa.com/videos/pima-county-invest-nearly-300k-in-professional-soccer/?fullsite
Ah ok. I remember when I got my first macbook . Anyways, all 10 MLS teams and the 1 Mexican league team will stay at the same hotel/resort. Four properties in the city have placed bids to host the teams. Westin La Paloma, Mariott Star Point, Loews Ventana Canyon, and I can't remember the fourth one. While all four properties have an fair shot at winning, the teams will most likely stay at the Westin La Paloma once again. It hosted three of the four teams in 2012, and all nine MLS teams this year, as well as Veracruz.
During the KC/Chicago match, the electronic on-field billboard ran an ad that said: "Ave Maria, Florida. Proud home of Chicago Fire Spring Training"
The first preseason tournament is set. The Carolina Challenge Cup. February 22 - March 1. Charleston, Sounders, Dynamo, and DC. http://uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/762772.html Three teams down, 16 to go.
the 11th edition of the Carolina Challenge Cup. Seattle coming in with Three Former Battery players (Alonso, Neagle and Caskey) and Clint Dempsy should be great. DC United will try to retain the Coffee Pot Cup from the Battery, Houston seem to have trouble beating the Battery since the Charleston Battery became the Texas state champs in 2008 (knocked off three texas clubs, houston, FC dallas and a PDL team in the USOC) The Regiment again will have events through the week (tailgates, pub crawl, watch parties, and invite all traveling supporters to join us. more press: http://charlestonbattery.com/news/m...rs-fc-to-play-in-2014-carolina-challenge-cup/ http://www.chssoccer.net/carolina-challenge-three-interesting-opponents/ with a little insight on how the teams are secured for the tournament http://www.postandcourier.com/artic...4-carolina-cup-challenge-at-blackbaud-stadium
They've also announced that Colorado will play Chivas USA again in the Las Vegas Pro Soccer Challenge on Feb. 16th 2014. http://unitedworldsports.com/tickets-now-on-sale-for-the-mls-preseason-rematch/
historically the CCC ends the weekend before MLS kicks off so i would say MLS would kick off the weekend of March 7
Yes, although that "weekend" could/might also include Thurs or Fri or possibly even Wednesday, with a "First Kick" game possibly during the "midweek" and/or featuring the defending champion and/or some marketable market/stadium ahead of a full weekend of games. (Also note that Concacaf hasn't specified the CCL QF dates, but those will very likely be in early March as well, and could affect the MLS early season league schedule for a few teams.)
The Fire have a trade deal going with Ave Maria to spend their first phase of preseason there every year. I believe 2014 would be their fourth year there...They generally only play one or two games during the phase, heavy on whittling down their trialists/draft picks for the second phase of preseason.
Columbus, Chicago, DC, New England, New York, and Malmo FF (Sweden) will be in Bradenton from January 26 to February (dates via Twitter). Bradenton is trying to get two more MLS teams plus some more international teams. http://www.bradenton.com/2013/10/21/4784445/six-major-league-soccer-teams.html
Looks like the San Diego Clasico will be played in LA :/ at Stub Hub and be called the LA Clasico this Dec 28th at 7pm PST. It will feature the Club Tijuana Xolos and Club America. www.laclasico.com
$125,000 just for some friendlies? Jesus. (I know, its for the an IMG/MLS deal, not just spring training) And here's more info. http://www.bradenton.com/2013/10/22/4785508/bradentons-img-academy-to-become.html http://www.bradenton.com/2013/10/18/4778942/img-academy-to-pitch-expanded.html
FC Tucson announced today this would be the first ever event at the stadium. FC Tucson vs. Chivas LA. Friday, November 15th.
Who is is this Chivas LA you speak of? Surprise they will have enough players to field a team by Nov 15th.
Yeah, it should look like the same lineup they used against SKC and the Timbers during this year's Desert Friendlies.
