I am pretty sure that we have a idea of who we want and who we don't want, but we need to think about from this point on who WILL be at the world cup and who won't be.

Balanta 10. Zapata MF 11. James - kid needs to be our Captain and he should be allowed to knock up every colombia girl he feels like. Mondragon love him but is he really our 2nd or 3rd best goalie??? Especially at 43? 7. Darwin Quintero ..... too low in the striker chain to make it 8. Arias/Medina...... we really need more wingbacks especially a LB but these are the only two avaiable unless Quinones goes on loan has a epic season Jan - JUne
By this point, we DO need to get our younger players with more experience. That way we can have players like Quintero ready by then. I be happy if we use all of our current youngest players in the match against Paraguay as a start.

Barring injury Yepes and Perea are not only in the WC23 but likely starting 11. Add Teo, James, Zuniga, Ospina and Falcao to the list of 'untouchables'. I would love to start to give Balanta minutes and Murillo is playing amongst some of the best so he should be tested. Can't believe we're actually talking WC roster
Only untouchable is Falcao, James, ZUniga, Armero and Ospina. Everyone else is easily replaceable. You lose any of those 5 and the team just doesn't work. I am interested to see us play the last game against Paraguay w/o Cuadrado or Falcao. Really hope he gives Quintero a shot at RM or gives Medina another shot but playing as RM for a couple minutes. Medina is getting killed by the fans but he is not a rosca player kid is the real deal. Just sent out to the lions before he was ready. Yepes doesn't play for Atlanta and doesn't win back his spot. You really think he should go to the WC? Perea is done and had to leave europe because no team wanted him. People keep saying that there is only 1 fifa date before the World cup and that can't be true. Teams usually play 2-3 games before the tournie. We need to use the winter breaks and the summer for player camps. We need to play those random domestic team games vs Mexico/Panama/Costa Rica to give guys experience and test new people. I have a feeling Pekerman made a deal with River so he can get him in non fifa days for these things.
I'm talking more about Pekerman's 'untouchables' not yours or my choices. It would take something seriously wrong with Teo (injury, drugs, something 'outside' his futbol duty, etc) for Pekerman not to include him in the starting 11. He has tremendous faith in him.
I posted this on the Pekerman thread: To me the perfect line up would be the following: ==============Ospina============= Zuniga======CB=======CB=====Armero ======Sanchez=========Guarin====== Cuadrado=======Quintero========James ==============Falcao============= I left the CB spots open since we have no clear favorites for that position now since our guys are old and Balanta young. Anyways, this line up gives us the best chance to play with the top teams in the world. It allows us to place James and Cuadrado in their natural positions of wingers and supply Falcao with services, which is the best way to score. I would be willing to replace Quintero with Magnelly, but Quintero offers much more. He is just as good a passer, but offers more speed, dribbling, long distance shots, free kicks, and just overall a much more dangerous scoring threat. I also would like to start Guarin at DM in place of Aguilar. He was brilliant in that role when he came in vs Chile and all elite teams have a DM combination of a defensive minded DM and an attacking minded DM. Just look at Lampard, Vidal, Xavi, Schweinsteiger, Xavi, Pirlo, Paulinho, Ya Ya Toure, etc. They adhere to their defensive responsibilities, but they offer a lot on the attack and jump start the offense. Guarin is a true box to box guy like Vidal and I think he would be wonderful at DM for us. It is clear that our best players are Falcao, Jackson, Muriel, Cuadrado, James, Guarin, and Quintero. Our current line up only allows Falcao and James to start since Magnelly usually starts ahead of Cuadrado. I think that a coach has to adjust his line ups to accommodate the best players, especially if the current line up is considered out of date in the world of soccer. The 4-2-3-1 allows us to have 5 of our top players on the pitch, gives us versatility, speed, dribbling, and long distance shots (Guarin and Quintero) and a player like Falcao thrives when he is receiving a lot of service, which he would do in front of 3 magnificent play makers like Quintero James, and Cuadrado. Last but not least, it is no secret that our defense is our weakest link, by controlling the midfield, we can help the defense and avoid giving the other team more opportunities.
En serio no hemos aprendido, que empezamos a tener resultados fue con dos delanteros...en cancha........por mas que cuadrado, quintero y james sean mas talentoso que cualquiera....siempre que juega en delantero en punta solo sale perjudicado
It works for Germany, Brazil, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, why not for us? Especially since it would allow us to field our best players on their NATURAL positions.
ya se ha intentado y no ha sido la mejor alternativa como si lo es cuando hay dos delanteros.........si no ha servido es por que toodas las selecciones son de contextos diferentes, no es copiar de otro pais las alineaciones, si ellos la tienen es por que tienen los jugadores apropiados para sacarle el potencial......colombia debe buscar como sacar su propio potencial al equipo..... no hay dibujo tactico ganador o perdedor por si solo.....es saberlo aplicar.... de hecho italia prefiere jugar con 3 defensas....o por lo menos ellos no hace 4-2-3-1,........con van gaal, holanfda esta haciendo algo distinto. españa con delbosque ha jugado tanto con 2 delanteros como con 1, y le han dado resultados.........solo alemania,se ha casado con el 4-2-3-1....
Que yo recuerde nada mas hemos utilizado el 4-2-3-1 una vez contra Venezuela. Hay que tratar 2 o 3 veces en amistosos haber si funciona. El problema que tengo con la 4-4-es el siguinte. Si empezamos con James y Cuadrado, perdemos control del mediocampo pues ellos son puntero naturales. Quedamos dependiendo de Aguilar y Sanchez para controlar el medio y ellos no pueden hacer esa funcion. Esto fue evidente contra Chile en el primer tiempo y Serbia (un equipo al cual se le debia ganar con facilidad). Si jugamos con James y Macnelly, tambien sufrimos pues Macnelly es muy inconsistente (3 partidos malos por cada bueno) y perdemos creatividad. Tambien perdemos ampliedad pues no tenemos enlace en la derecha sin Cuadrado. Dices que no hay que copiar a nadie, pero no es copiar. Si no tuvieramos a James y Cuadrado no recomendaria esta alineacion. Yo recomiendo esta alineacion porque tenemos los jugadores perfectos para esta alineacion. En la 4-4-2 estamos pidiendole a los muchachos que cambien de posicion. La 4-4-2 se considera hoy en dia una alineacion antigua pues sacrifica control del mediocamp. Los mejores equipos del mundo Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Dortmund, Arsenal, etc utilizan la 4-2-3-1 no por copiar, sino porque es la alineacion que mas funciona. Espana muy raramente utilizan 2 delanteros. Ganaron Euro 2008 con Torres al frente, el mundial con Villa, Euro 2012 con Torres, y jugaron la copa confederaciones con Torres al frente. Esllos prefieren no usar delanteros antes de usar 2. Imaginate jugar contra el mediocampo de Alemania o Espana con Magnelly, Aguilar y Sanchez? No te sentirias mas comodo con James, Quintero, Cuadrado y Guarin al lado de Sanchez/Aguilar?
1. es 4-2-3- 1 era lo mismo que hacia el bolillo con su 4-1-4-1 que tenia.....con el que solo logramos 3 goles costa rica sub 23 ........el mayor perjudicado es nuestra figura falcao....... 2. españa, durante todos esos 3 torneos que nombarste cambio de ezquema por partido...asi es que debe ser, cada rival es diferente 3. no me siento mas comodo con esos o con los otros sinceramente.....unos simplemente son mas famosos y de juegos mas vistosos que los otros.....pero por ejemplo se que con guarin no me sentiria mas comodo, con su indiscplina tactica y parcimonia
While I understand your point, pepino is right on this one. It's easy to call out our poor performances but some of our best results/performances have been with 2 upfront (vs Chile 1-3, vs Uru 4-0, vs Bolivia 4-0). It also helps when we have most of our players in the best form. I would rather look to improve the form of how our DM respond to situations (or use different players) and improve our CB situation than rework our entire tactical formation that got us to the WC. We're not Chile and while offensively they always look dangerous with so many attacking all the time their defensive numbers (2x as many goals allowed than Colombia), suggest that they need a much more balanced approach.
There are so many factors that go into it such as injuries and the group draw and which side of the bracket is stronger and how different styles of futbol match up, luck of the bounce etc. But I will say this. Talent wise this team is more talented than Uruguay who went to the Semis in 2010. I also think it has about the same talent as that Portugal team that went to the Semis in 2006. If Perkerman can keep this team with a positive mind set and playing smart I would not be surprise to see us in the Semis. But we have to wait and see the aforementioned factors and how everything plays out.
I agree that we need to resolve our issues defensively. We are not making past the second round with Yepes and Perea as our starting CBs. That has to be addressed instantly. Fixing our defense should be our #1 priority. Having siad that, we also have to figure out how to fix our midfield. We looked great when we were in awesome form during 2012, but reality has struck him and we haven't looked game in any game recently. We didn't look good vs Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Chile, Serbia, and Uruguay. There was something missing in the midfield, I can't be the only one to notice it.
My dream lineup going into brazil assuming every one of these players is in great form ==============Ospina============= Zuniga======Unknown=======Zapata=====Armero ==============Balanta=============== Cuad/Guarin=====Quintero========James ===========Falcao=======Muriel=========== I think Balanta has the ability to play as a DM more effectively than any of our current guys, and will help in link up play while maintaining his defensive duties. James and Cuadrado would have to be workhorses offensively and defensively, but I believe they have the ability to do so. I like muriel (if he comes into his own by next year) as a support striker for Falcao because his pace would bring a whole new dimension to our game especially with james and quintero feeding through balls (I think this will open things up more for falcao as well) as we have seen teams really focus on taking him out of the game. For this to work the team would need to have great cohesion and discipline which takes time, but I see this as the best way to get talent on the pitch. What do you guys think? Critiques, comments, even bashing this "pipe dream" is welcome
i think that our 2018 team will be better.........sincerely it will be difficult that yepes and perea wont go to brazil......is our first world cup in 16 years, our real possibilities are in 4 years........with balanta, murillo, franco muriel and quintero as realitys......
No, we didnt dominate but there are also 11 players on the other side of the pitch. Results wise though it's hard to say we were too off: Peru - 6 points out of a possible 6 = 100% Argentina - 1 point away out of a possible 3 = 33.33% (only Pekerman's era) Ecuador - 3 points out of a possible 6 = 50% Chile - 4 points out of a possible 6 = 66% Serbia - 3 points out of a possible 3 = 100% (friendly in Europe) Uruguay - 3 points out of a possible 6 = 50% That's pretty darn good. 'Jogo Bonito' is almost an impossible task in today's games when you have similar teams on the pitch. If we faced Guatemala every time, than yes, but look at the teams you posted...none are gimmes. Yes, I want them to play at 100% every time (like they did vs Chile in Chile or like they did vs Uruguay at home) but again I'd rather tweak the player than the positioning. I've played club ball all my life and while I could play any position it would take a lot to figure out a new scheme. Let alone for the whole team to also be in sync for the same scheme. I guess what I mean to say is I'd rather continue to work and be the BEST at a formation that works for us (two guys upfront), than have a bunch of smaller tactical approaches that may be a bigger gamble.
