After 4 games I love the mv9s but the fit aint perfect for me as there is a little space at the heel, similar to my mv8's but i feel i can strike a ball better with the 9s. Will try hypervenom when the black and silver pair come out. Anyone have any news re superfly 4???

Hey guys, I'd like to ask something about the hypervenom phantom FG. I purchased mine from a local nike store a few days ago and I'm loving them so much. However, I noticed the black nike swoosh on the left shoe seems to give off a plastic-like shine while the one on the right shoe doesn't. Should it be something to worry about or do you guys have the same problem? Please tell me it's nothing cause I love them so much (This is the first time I've bought first tier boots, been wearing second tiers my whole life). By the way, mine are made in Vietnam.

 

Can anyone confirm what country the black pack Vapor 9 FG is made?

It varys, some are made in Bosnia while others are made in China or Vietnam. Havent seen any made in italy.

They will, but this catalogue is for April-June, while the chromes come out in March.

And I noticed that the Veloce models don't have the exact same heel design/pattern as the Vapor's do. The 2010 Edition Vapor has the same vivid orange warning pattern as the ones from 2010, but the Veloce have a normal fade as the current models do.

Hope, intrigue and a sheer amazement greeted me with the Hypervenom Phantom. The hope that my beloved Mercurial/Vapor line, stretching from its creation to the end of the Vapor 2, 98-04 would be reincarnated into a modern day masterpiece. Those boots were innovators, speculators, they were lightweight, flexible, comfortable and basically made me feel like I could do anything on a pitch; I was the one to watch. Confidence in my world is the key to fulfilling potential you're only as good as you believe you are.
Intrigue, I’d done my homework on these boots, the last, the NikeSkin, the heel stitching, the soleplate, I wanted to see how the boot felt, what the last was like, how striking a ball felt and most of all did I feel 'sharp' in this boot. I plumped for the firm ground version due to the warm weather release date and finally when the boots arrived I was in amazement, this initial colourway of orange/black popped! Don’t get me wrong I'm a massive fan of orange boots anyway; Vapor I in Shock Orange and a Vapor IV in Orange Peel spring to mind, but the texturing on the boots just gave this an edge. Gone was the feeling of a shiny plasticised upper, staring at me was something Matt but yet refined and most of all interesting. A nice boot bag accompanied the boots, black one side and orange on the other with the signature skull in the middle in contrasting colour. The skull logo is somewhat of a bone of contention for me. It's a great marketing ploy for the 'deadly' tag line but it's too childlike for me and I can't imagine too many people adults being enamoured by it.
On first feel the upper reminded me of a more refined and evolved spec GS Concept. If the GS was to the car world a stripped back race spec concept of an already lightweight Lamborghini, (Google Lamborghini Sesto Elemento and you'll get the picture), this was its refined and older brother the Aventador. The boot felt ridiculously lightweight still but not fragile, the upper felt supple almost dare I say it like a leather that had been worn repeatedly but not stretched or distressed. In pictures the upper looked slightly misshapen and cumbersome but I'm pleased to say it is nothing of the sort, low profile and a promisingly wider appearance than the Vapor. The scaffolding inside the boots underneath the mesh structure allows movement and the boot to mould to your foot but not to excess.
The heel cup and counter looked interesting, the off centre stitching aimed to reduce heel bone pressure was fingers crossed going to be a massive bonus for me as I've struggled in the past with a lockdown that has been simply too much. Off centre lacing has been around for a long time now for Nike right back through all of the generations of T90 back to the original Alpha Project AZT90 I from 2000, what a boot that was I might add! I understand the concept, a cleaner striking zone and when you're carrying or dribbling the ball you generally use your toe or instep so make that area as seamless as possible to aid control. Only time will tell on these two to see if they work well with this boot.

Finally the new soleplate for the Hypervenom caused much discussion in the lead up to their release with a 3 stud rear heel pattern being seen on samples sparking intrigue and cries of Pele Trinity. Nike decided it was one step too far for the 3 stud pattern after feedback from Pro's and testers alike and finally delivered an unusual blend of conical studs coupled with stiffness and responsiveness. The revised plate has a 4 stud heel which I would say is a massive positive over its Cousin the Vapor which currently uses a 2 stud heel. From an agility and balance point of view I personally have always preferred a 4 stud configuration, I find back peddling, jockeying and turning much more true.
The plate itself is good looking and has a torsion bar sweeping across the centre line which provides structural stiffness for those sharp turns and sprints. I’m glad to see Nike have gone for something different other than a variation on their legendary Intertract plate of the original AZT90 II which slight variants are virtually being used across CTR, Tiempo and T90 before its replacement. It doesn't have the wow factor of a composite such as carbon or glass fibre but for me those plates are too stiff I prefer something more flexible, practical and durable al la Mizuno Morelia.
Looking at the studs themselves the conicals are a great move and using different sizes to elevate traction with a bladed brake stud on the front is genius, especially for someone who struggles with the intensity and height bladed soleplates provide. Initially I'm not overly sold on the idea of this split toe design, not because I don't think it's a good idea, I just don't see how practical the change in density to one area of the plate will make any in game difference.

Now to actually get the boots on!
For information I have a slightly strange set up, I wear a very thin pair of Nike Dryfit socks followed by football socks and then ankle supports on top to hold everything together! (...Glass ankles) This all means I tend to like my boots tight as I already have some padding there but I like to be able to move my toes and have less than a little fingers width to the end. Width wide I like my boots snug but not crushing my little toe, everyone has their own set up!

The boots slide on with ease, no struggles to squeeze my feet in them, no insanely tight heel cup, and the sockliner is tight enough my foot isn't going to fall out. Once the laces are tied they feel great, the forefoot is literally perfect for my foot this new X1.1 last must have been made from my foot. I'm a UK7, 26cm and I have a relatively wide foot, although not Japanese wide, and my foot is relatively shallow. I have enough room to move my toes, the upper is very pliable and stretchy, the laces aren't done up ridiculously tight but I feel my foot is locked in. On first feel extremely positive, there is a softness at the top of the heel I like, it doesn't dig in on my Achilles although I would have preferred some sort of suede material on the sockliner akin to the Nike Premier/CTR 360.

Once up and running and training the in boots the feel of the ball is fantastic, no they don't offer much protection but it's pretty hard to get protection and ball feel at the right balance in a boot. Take the tongue pad on the Superfly 2/3, great idea but wrong execution and it just felt clumsy.
Personally I found the soleplate a touch too stiff for my liking during the first 2 hours of playing time. I have quite a high arch and the stiffness of the plate was causing the arch to compress when sprinting, stopping and turning regularly. (This is also compounded by some very tight ankle supports I wear.) Once the soleplate had 'worn in' though it's fantastic the stud positioning is second to none I feel constantly on my toes and most of all stable and agile, ready to push off from any angle.
The heel lockdown was very good; I still think it could be aided by a suede like material. My touch feels good in them and especially for close control and dribbling. Striking the ball was excellent, always clean and true especially I found when cutting across the ball from left to right in my case as I'm left footed. Just watch out for clumsy defenders stepping on your toes!

From now 2/3 months in the boots and playing twice weekly in them I absolutely love them and I have experienced no durability issues. The soleplate and studs have been solid as a rock even on very hard ground, the upper has shown no delamination of the graphics or when it has been fixed to the plate. To be fair I'm not a boot breaker, I can't actually think of a time I've snapped a soleplate or separated a soleplate probably because I usually rotate my boots regularly depending on the ground. They weigh in at around 196g in my size and that's more than light enough for me, I always feel like I've got an extra yard in my locker.

The on pitch colour of the orange and black is fantastic, so bright and from a TV perspective it's so easy to see Hypervenoms! It's now got the point even my girlfriend says oh isn't that guy wearing those boots you have?! The orange is slightly fading and annoyingly the rear swoosh is a very slightly different shade of orange to the front panel. The newer stealth, hi-vis pack and exclusive green colourway give a great range and are also brilliant and well thought out to give a wide range of prospective owners. If only the stealth pack had a white swoosh and the hi-vis pack colours were switched!!
Then again there's always Nike ID, hopefully soon a more colourful array of soleplates will be available and then you're made!

In conclusion the Hypervenom Phantom is a great boot, it's up there in my top 5 boots to wear of all time and that is no mean feat considering my playing days easily stretch back to 1996. It’s got the potential to be a classic, easily the best boot in my opinion anyone has released in the last 4/5 years. What's most exciting is that it's a whole new silo, a new boot not just an evolution of something from before. I'm sure the hypervenom story will continue to grow.

Footnote:
When discussing the boot pre-release with the Global Product Team they asked if I would recommend a leather version. Of course I said yes I'm a leather man, always always leather but.....I don't know if leather would work on the Hypervenoms. Not proper leather, the type used on the K leather Vapor IV from Niketown and the Tiempo 94. The weight would be off, the feel would be lost and the structure would be wrong but then again who said Nike can't make it happen. I hope they continue to surprise me.

 

@Jorma great write up, almost makes me want to try them but it would be hard to get me into a pair of non leather boots. I guess my only question is have your driven both a Sesto Elemento and a Aventador?

 

Sesto Elemento what a car! Lamborghini keep coming out with these mental concepts! I've driven an Aventador but Sesto would be a dream!!
