Am I the only one that is a bit worried to see Rafa at CB? I don't think he is at the level defensively to be part of the back four and defend at an appropriate level at the international level.

I think at this point of his career, his game is suited in the defensive midfield as a deep-lying playmaker.

 

Didn't Leon play veracruz recently? How did Rafa do there against Tejeda?

 

Is there a canalero playing in veracruz? I didn't know it. Anyway,i think Rafa will play as DM if he gets minutes.

You're right, 8:30. The Mexican FA said a day or two ago. Don't remember when, but they said they won't try switching times.

Yeah with good midfield partners he can do his thing in a deeper role as "playmaker" Still too risky to use at CB against Panama given the huge stakes. Has he been good for Leon in midfield when/if he's played there? My biggest concern is his speed and would rather not experiment too much at this point. The defense was solid up until the Salcido corner giveaway where every one started to fall apart. Just switch in Nilo and maybe Layun for Mier who I still think has his future at CB imo, not natural at RB unless we need to ever bunker and not need crosses/pace from our fullbacks.

 

I don't think Layun works in a line of 4, he is LWB/RWB in every sense, can you guys see Vuce going with a line of 5? especially if Rafa is playing to cover for his speed?

This gives us width with Layun and Guardado and both are high energy , a safety valve in Zavala that can cover for Rafa if Rafa moves up a little to initiate/ make a pass. This pretty much plays to our strength, roster wise, it's pretty much America's formation depending on how the attackers line up.

 

not sure if y'all are serious, why do people keep putting Rafa as a CB? His speed would be a downside in the back ... He would be better in the mid, our issue is not the backline .... Ohh yeah our mid is what needs help, unless todos estan pendejos y ciegos

 

Umm thats why i suggested a backline of 5, i think it's pretty clear Rafa will start and captain for this team, the media is behind him and to be fair he is having a hell of a season for Leon, he was a boss vs Chivas today. What he brings(leadership, toughness, vision, skill) far outweighs his lack of pace which you can cover for in a good scheme, playing with Mier and Moreno and Zavala dropping back if needed covers for Rafa.

 

It makes more sense to put him as DM from the get go, plain and simple ... Unless you want Torrado or Salcido there instead ...

 

I don't know, i want someone with more bite as a DM, Rafa is great at reading the game defensively but he isn't a ball winner in the middle.

 

Rafa should have been playing dm for Mexico since the WC in '10. He is too slow to be playing cb anymore in the international game but he still has the leadership skills vision and technique we've been lacking in midfield. For the next 2 games I'd go with

Ochoa
Layun Reyes Moreno T. Nilo
Montes Rafa Gullit
Gio Peralta Vela

 

I believe in Rafa at CB.

If he can handle Liga MX attackers, he can handle attackers from MLS and San Miguelito and FC Tauro.

Who thinks that guys like Jefferson Montero, Darwin Quintero, and Humberto Suazo wouldn't be starters on Oct.11 if they obtained Panamanian citizenship?
