In their fourth 3. Liga match of the current season, BVB II took their first victory of the season 2-1 over Bavarian club Wacker Burghausen at Stadion Rote Erde.

After opening the season with a 2-0 defeat at VfL Osnabrück, BVB II drew at home against Arminia Bielefeld and away at Alemannia Aachen.

Both BVB II goals were scored by 20-year old midfielder Rico Benatelli. (on left) Benatelli's goals came in the 20th and 41st minutes. Alexander Eberlein scored for Burghausen in the 79th minute.

The victory took BVB II's record up to one victory, two draws and one defeat. The victory also pushed BVB II up the standings to 11th place. However, they can be passed by the winner of tomorrow's match between Chemnitz and Darmstadt.

On another note, former BVB "talent" Sahr Senesie started the match for Burghausen. How many of you guys remember Senesie and what we thought he would become?? :whistling:

After 15 matches, our kids are still in the relegation zone of the 3. Liga in 19th place. Places 18-20 are relegated back to the Regionalligas.

However, our kids are also just two points from the first non-relegation spot, and just three points behind this weekend's opponents, 15th placed SV Wehen-Wiesbaden (SVWW). Our kids will travel to Wiesbaden for this match.

Suprisingly, SVWW only has ONE VICTORY this season. However, they have ELEVEN DRAWS to go with three defeats.

Our kids have only won two matches this season. However, one of them was a 2-1 victory in our last away match at SV Darmstadt 98. BVB II coach David Wagner is a former Darmstadt player, so that had to be sweet for him.

So, while the season has been a disappointment so far for BVB II, it is far, far from over.......

BVB II just moved 1 point clear of relegation zone - it would be 3 but Knappmann scored an own goal. He is an old man who was seemingly brought in for some garunteed goals because of his good scoring rate in 3. Liga...

EDIT: *scoring rate in RL West - now he makes even less sense

We're that point ahead because Babelsberg lost, right??

Winning at VfB Stuttgart II next week won't be easy. But they need to find a way.

They need to take some first team players for that super decisive last game. Guys from the academy like Schmelzer, Goetze, Reus, Grosskreutz and Sahin wouldnt be bad ....

Schmelzer isn't "from" our youth program. We bought him from 1. FC Magdeburg. We bought him young, yes, but he made it from U-19 to the pro team in three years. Tells me he was pretty well trained before he got to us.

Anyhow, there are rules in place to keep loading up the team with pros from happening. I think KG is eligible, but but none of the others you mentioned.

Apologize if this has been covered on another thread, but I am very ignorant as to the magnitude of the importance of BVB remaining in the 3. Liga.

I understand it is better than the Regionalliga, but how big is the gap? Does staying in the 3. Liga help us develop prospects at a much faster rate? Has getting to the level been a priority for the club?

Am I correct in saying we have a younger roster of prospects and are playing in some cases against older players who might have advanced as far as they can up the pyramid? Does that account for some/all of our struggles?

A quick glance of the table and I only saw Stuttgart had a team in both the BL and 3. Liga. Is it hard for BL teams to sustain teams in the 3. Liga?

Rambling post I realize, but any help would be appreciated.

Yes, getting BVB II and keeping them in the 3. Liga has been a goal of club management. The competition is notably better from top to bottom than that of the Regionalliga. The money is better and yes, it is better competition to develop the club's prospects.

    Absolutely correct.

Some, not all. We've had some injuries and I don't know how good coach David Wagner actually is......

Yes, as the reserve teams of the big clubs are U-23 sides.

There are guys here at BigSoccer far better versed in how the 3. Liga and U-23/reserve system are run. I really only know the basics and not all of them......

Ducksch scored the only goal against Stuttgart II to keep BVB II in the 3. liga

Very positive, it can really help a certain age bracket with their development to be able to play in 3.liga. There should be quite a few from the U19s who can form the core of BVB II next season, we can probably attract other young players as well.

Quite a few.........Hell no!!!!!!!! The u19s suck badly this season. There are 2 or 3 very good individuals of course but the rest no. The captain Deelen at left back is very good. Dudziak obviously. Maybe Benkarit but needs to improve big time and he can play one more year with the u19s. Maybe Nothnagel too.

Thanks for the word. I defer to "timh19" and/or "smithfan" on the younger guys.

Marian Sarr, Tammo Harder coming from Schalke... What about Dytko, Deichmann or Bandowski? I haven't seen any U19s but I was under the impression they were rubbish for reasons other than lacking talent. Hasn't their coach been fired?

Oh sorry how could I forget about Sarr and of course Harder is coming from S04. Maybe Dytko too from the ones you mentioned. Not the others. In the end, it is up to the coaches. I dont know what they will decide. I would take Deelen, Dudziak, Harder and Sarr. Amini has been on the bench a lot for the reserves. Next season he could play more.

Indeed Sascha Eichel got fired last month. Maybe he was the reason the u19s couldnt pass the ball to save their lives let alone get any decent results. We will see next season how good they are.

Well, he scored two goals in the last game - a 4-2 win over SpVgg Unterhaching. The goals from that game you can see here :

Not surprising. Derstroff was good enough to play for 1. FCK in the 1. Bundesliga two years ago. If Derstroff keeps up with the goal scoring, I guess the question will be if he plays a future role at BVB or if he moves on to another club to play a larger role?

Derstroff's contract with us is good through the 2014-2015 season.

True. But he's also apparently played very well in all three matches.

BTW, the BVB II guys have two victories, no draws and one defeat (opening day at Osnabrück), for six points so far this season.

This is good for seventh place going into a tough challenge on the fourth match day at fourth placed 1. FC Heidenheim this coming Saturday. 1. FCH is undefeated, but still just one point ahead of BVB II with two victories and a draw in its three 3. Liga matches to date in the current season.

In what might be good news for BVB II, 1. FCH 's two victories have come away from home. They beat relegated and current eighth placed club MSV Duisburg (Duisburg didn't get its professional football license for the new season and was therefore relegated from the 2. Liga) 1-0 at Duisburg on the season's opening day and won 2-0 this past weekend at seventeenth placed Chemnitzer FC. Of course, this means their one 3. Liga draw came at home against relegated and twelfth placed Jahn Regensburg.

    1. FC Heidenheim also took BVB's next German Cup opponents, 1860 München, to the brink of a German Cup upset. 1860 knocked 1. FCH out of the German Cup on penalties.

Let's hope BVB II keeps 1. FCH winless at home!!!!

A friend of mine went to that match to watch Marian Sarr. He said Sarr was terrible in that match. Looked like he didn't want to be there.

My friend also said our guys looked overmatched at times. As if they weren't prepared for the challenge they were facing. He blames that on coaching.

Ducksch and Amini score in BVB II's 2-1 win over Duisburg.

Koray Guenter made his season debut coming on as a sub.

Nick Weber, who scored 3 goals in 2 games with the U-19 team, has been promoted to this level and also came on as a sub (briefly near end of the game).

One of the photos of our fan support there. AWESOME!!

I believe it was MSV Duisburg's highest crowd total ever in the third division.
