We are already going to have these discussions, so might as well put up a thread. This is for any players moving out of NWSL for the 2014 season or who be playing elsewhere in the lead up to 2014 or any target players who opt out of NWSL for 2014 as well as those players who change teams in the off-season. Ali Krieger -- signed with Tyresö FF through November 2013 Ashlyn Harris -- signed with Tyresö FF through November 2013 Tobin Heath -- returning to PSG (not sure if confirmed, but heavily rumored)
It will be interesting to see if Krieger is officially listed as a loan. According to Dan Lauletta, teams have to pick up options by August 15 so we might able to figure some things out based on player movement after August.
Anything is possible, but I don't see a team giving up an international slot (and free agent salary) for a GK -- especially if they have a decent allocated one.
No league in history (not even WUSA) will have had better goalkeepers at the same time. A league with: Solo, Angerer, Franch, Barnhart, Loyden, Harris, Cameron, LeBlanc, and McLeod All at the same time. Not to mention, Henninger, Naeher, Santiago, and Emily Oliver (rookie). That's 13 of the Top 20 goalkeepers in the world. If Schelin wants to go up against the best defenses and best goalkeepers, then come to NWSL.
Did Portland use any of their international slots? LeBlanc is very popular (and free) but is there any team really in need of a starting GK?
Portland's only internationals are their allocated Canadian players. Everyone else is American. I would have said Boston would be interested in Angerer until they picked up Naeher.
Portland needs a young back-up more than an old starter. I could see them using a middle pick on Oliver, Owens or Bledsoe before making a deal with a 34 yo keeper.
hahaha, portland gets "A" list players for free and 1 million in revenues. why bother paying through the nose for a prime international when they can hustle ussoccer because of their attendance? if they wanted to make a splash, they'd bring marta in. now, that would ignite sinclair's game because marta is the one who can truly play between mid-field and forward at the club level and still score in clusters. out of position doesn't reall slow her game, just fitness. she's playing mf in sweden and right on press' heels in scoring.
Its more then 1 million in revenue, say each ticket is average $20, with 13,000 average attendance, 11 home games which translates to 3 million in revenue for ticket sales. 200k cap, chump change for Portland. Its why I really want to see revenue sharing exist in this league to help out the smaller stadium teams. It would help increase the cap, retain your national players so they play here in North America and attract the best free agents as well. If Toronto joins in next year and that is an "if" we don't know what is going on, they would add another big season ticket base that would average big crowds like Portland. Two big market clubs for the NWSL would do wonders for propping up salaries. Yeah they would be subsidizing the rest of the smaller teams in the league, but overall I think it would be for the good health of the women's game and this league if these two giants did so.
I think the ability to hold on to NT players is a big topic between owner and the league. They will look at the Heath and Rapinoe situations and realize that they need a mechanism in place to retain these players if they choose. Now maybe it turns out to be more than just money, but teams cant lose key players just over money. For example, what if someone with the financial resources of PSG took an interest in Erica Tymrak. How does FCKC explain to their fans that league rules cost them one of their best young players?
you start paying through the nose for players and you will have wps II in the nwsl. cap comes up nice and slow. nters are paid for so with 50k added to the cap they should be able to keep a player like tymrak. if psg puts too much on the table, then the nwsl will have to find companies like sweden does to pay individual salaries, but good luck on that one in the states. cost control is what keeps it around for 10 yrs. favorites will come and go and some will only play for 2-4 seasons because there's no money in it. outside of the stars most players in the nfl only last 3 yrs or so. that's how i look at the nwsl. i think teams should get an optional designated player spot, so guys like sahlen can go out and get a big name against psg. some clubs can't afford it. for portland, i don't see it happening and don't see them at the table willingly profit sharing. i think they put the money in their pockets, dont seem interested in making a big signing or they would have done it this year.
Ur not talking about paying to bring in international stars tho. Let's say Heath make $6k a month to play in the NWSL which I believe is close. PSG offers her $10k a month. If Portland wants to come up the the $20K difference ($4,000x5 months) there should be a way they can do it. It does open the door for every NT player to get offers to try and raise their salary.
Yeah that is a nightmare for me right now. I'm pretty sure they saw what Erika did this season and an contract offer to play in Europe is going to happen. I'm pretty sure if Kansas City was able to, they could keep her with the club by offering her a good deal, but the cap rules do prevent that from happening at the moment.
Ha Ha, I thought u meant the Brazilian who is supposed to sign with PSG...Tymrak's game is perfect for either Europe or Japan. U also have to figure she got a small contract coming out of college.
Had to do a little looking, but it appears the Scottish Women play until November. So it's certainly possible she's back next year, especially if everyone got the same kind of 1 year contract with team option and they want her back.
I don't know about Seattle, but as far as the fans are concerned, Hell yeah! we want Jessica Fishlock back. She was one of the things during this season that made you go - Wow! I'm sure Seattle wants her back as well.
All u need to know about Seattle is Fishlock is one of three people they post next to their ticket ad.
