The original actor who played tonto in the 1950's lone ranger tv show was named jay silver heals. He actually lived in Brooklyn, ny somewhere on ave H
My favorite ZORRO movie the one with the great Tyrone Power and basil rathbone. Maybe the best sword fighting scene in movie history. The best zorro that I loved as a kid was the Disney tv show zorro staring guy Williams."out of the night when the full moon was bright"
On Johnny depp who liked him in Donnie Brasco? I could not get past his little baby hands. Who could believe he could actually hurt someone with those hands. That is why you never actually see him hit anyone in that movie. He just bitch slapped them.
I hadn't seen Donnie Brasco, but was Johnny Depp's fighting style there similar to William Shatner's fighting style in the original Star Trek TV show? -G
Is there any chance this won't be a John Carter like disaster at the box office? Scratch that, this will make John Carter look like a massive success.
It's got Johnny Depp so you know it'll make more money than John Carter (which wasn't a bad movie, just marketed horribly wrong).
John Carter was mediocre at best. I agree that it was terribly marketed, I am a fairly big fan of the medium and I only found out about its release the day prior. My main issue with it was the fact that the two leads had absolutely no chemistry. Depp will be a huge draw, but I'm not sure this is the kind of material that will put posteriors in the seats, Depp or no Depp. The last "big" western (Cowboys and Aliens) was a pretty big Box office disappointment.
What amused me a lot was that Disney decided to cut the title down from "John Carter of Mars" to just plain "John Carter" because they were afraid people would remember and associate it somehow with their 2011 flop "Mars Needs Moms"!
This thing might be one of the most spectacular bombs in movie history. The one thing that might save it from that fate is Depp's bankability. Even Dark Shadows managed to reel in a respectable 250 million.
For all Hollywood gets celebrated/derided as "progressive" and "liberal," they sure love to give as many roles as possible to white men. I love Johnny Depp, and I can totally understand wanting to put him in your movie, but casting him as Tonto is precisely why I won't be going to see this one.
So what's the word, from someone who has actually seen it? I believe it's fiction innitt? My wife is a big Johnny Depp fan and will go anyway.. and I'll take her if it's a bit of fun...
It was pretty good. It briefly slowed down a bit in the middle (which may or may not be to one's liking), but it picked right back up soon afterward. -G
