Yeah, I'm moving on, what are you going to do about it? --------McBean Pineda----Gil-------Villareal ------Lopez-Trapp Ocegueda-ONeill-Zimmerman-Yedlin --------------Cropper
Ocegueda will be passed by someone else. He's too slow. Probably a left back out of college. Isn't Agudelo eligible for the next Olympics? Pieneda has to start playing for anybody makes any conclusions about him. Trapp and Lopez will probably be passed by too. Acosta might take one of their spots, even.
Our center backs might go from our weakest position in the U20 world cup to our strongest in the 2015 olympics. Jean-Baptiste, O'Neill, Brooks (hopefully), and Zimmerman. Lots of talent and depth there Jack McInerney will be in there with McBean up top too which will be a wonderful change from what we saw in this tournament
When you move your mouse over the thread title the first few words of the original post pop up. Kinda gives a sour taste to those looking forward to getting info about the next cycle. Bad memories, that's all.
I do like to check in on the first few pages of these years-long threads from time to time. Mainly for laughs. Nobody's fault of course, but its funny to see how much it changes sometimes.
I don't know what you're talking about. I mean I pretty much nailed the current U20 team two years ago.
The strength of the 1993s and 1994s will have a disproportionate influence on the quality of the next Olympic cycle because they'll be older and closer to their peak. See, this is where we root for Ramos to have done as bad a job as some suggest. He hasn't picked the best players and he's misused the guys he brought! Much easier than admitting we have some talent issues... But seriously, there is a lot of time for players to come out of the woodwork. I think it will be difficult to get even a vague sense of what the team might look like until this time next year. In the meantime, of course, there is plenty of room for evaluating individuals.
Our London qualifying team ----Agudelo(Boyd/Bunbury) Shea--Corona--Adu(Gyau) -----Diskerud-Jeffrey(Okugo) Valentin(Villafana)-Opara-Kitchen-Sarkodie(S. Williams) ------------Hamid Now realistically of course our best XI probably included players like Gatt and Altidore. By comparison the 2009 U20 team GK Perk Agbossomounde Davies Powers Taylor Jeffrey Diskerud Mayen Ownby Shea Opara S. Williams Arguez Duka Cruz Flores (Villafana) So by my count, seven players who started in the U20 World Cup made the U23 qualifying roster.
Another thing that's going to be tough to measure is the domestic guys who move onto Europe and become unavailable for Olympic qualifying, like Gil or Yedlin. But hey, speculation that's nearly 3 years away from having any tangible impact is what we do best here, and I greatly look forward to participating.
And what the hell, here's my predicted qualifying team: Starters GK- Cody Cropper. Not yet starting anywhere, so we will secure his release. Hope he is 33 months more polished with his positioning and develops better hands. LB-Kellyn Acosta (this cycle's Zarek Valentin, not his position but get him on the field) CB- Shane O'Neill CB- Javon Torre (just kidding) Walker Zimmerman RB- DeAndre Yedlin (don't think he's in Europe just yet) 6- Wil Trapp 8- Mikey Lopez 10- Junior Flores (gets his head screwed on straight, but is still in the reserves at Dortmund, Luis Gil is playing in Europe and can't get released) LW- Jose Villareal RW- Benji Joya (in his actual position) CF- Rubio Rubin (because why not?) Bench GK- Ethan Horvath CB- Zach Carroll (94 college guy) RB- Joe Amon (liked him with the U-17s last year, I'm throwing darts at this point) MID- Mobi Fehr MID- Marco Delgado MID- Alejandro Guido MID- Dillon Serna FWD- Jack McBean FWD- Jonathan Top Lock this thread Real Corona, because that's the roster.
Biggest question now is how soon do we hire a coach? Hiring Porter just months before qualifying and only having one camp before qualifying was completely unacceptable. I would like to at least see some joint U20/U23 camps on int'l FIFA dates and in the MLS/College offseason this year.
I was really just talking about birth years and not about U20 alumni specifically. 92 -- Agudelo, Gyau, Kitchen 91 -- Boyd, Okugo, Valentin, Sarkodie 90 -- Bunbury, Shea, Corona, Diskerud, Jeffrey, Williams, Hamid 89 -- Adu, Villafana, Opara, Johnson 11 players from 89/90, 7 from 91/12.
You're right, was just adding 3 years to their current ages (also didn't realize Jean-Baptiste had just turned 21) and not looking at birth years. My bad
Too U-20 heavy. A few of the U-18 guys will be starting at the Olympics no doubt, looking at the central midfield in particular (Pheffer, Acosta, Delgado, Canouse). Also, no Pelosi or Green?
Probably true. I just threw that out there with about five seconds of thought. It went like this.... Ghana scores to make it 3-1 RC needs catharsis. Creates thread Puts exact same lineup on the field against Ghana, adds two players. Feels better
My early prediction: -------------McBean------------ --Villareal-----Gil-----Green-- --------Pelosi------Pfeffer------ -Henley------------------Yedlin- --------Brooks----O'Neill------- -------------Cropper------------ Bench: Steffen Zimmerman Acosta Delgado Gall/Sonora Pineda Spencer
