Gentlemen, I am posting from my phone so I will be brief. I maintain my stance; the expectations we have for Mexico's "most talented squad ever" are off. Not only that but fans need to be more realistic about our team. The general consensus before the Italy match was that Mexico would get raped. However, predicting a draw would not have been an unrealistic result given Mexico's recent record against Italy. And the one thing that stood out in those games was that Mexico looked good; cue in YouTube videos or Jared/Medina's goal.

So, judging from past results and how the team performed plus the most talented squad ever coefficient and we should of had a similar result/performance. And this is were our expectations get skewed. A quick revision: Mexico was fortunate to tie Italy in the 94WC. The blazing heat was of great help. In 02WC we had a squad with players in their prime. The core group of that team was made of key players with their respective clubs. And that win before South Africa. Let me just remind you dear readers that Italy failed to make it past the group stage and even tied New Zealand whom we might be playing soon, lol.

This current squad has a core group of veteran players that are in decline or underperforming. And our top players have been inconsistent. I will say it again; consistency equals success, however it must be on all levels. Just like all for wheels on a car have to function in order for the car to drive well. Our squads success can be pinned on Gio, Vela, and Cheech. Gio and Vela however have had inconsistent club careers. It is obvious they can succeed if they remained at a club long enough but that has not happened yet. As for Cheech he's not a starter and misses many important matches but with the NT we "expect" him to resolve the games.

Now, we shouldn't place all our hopes on those players but then again what are we left with. Other squad players like DeNigris aren't any better at the club level. Poncho wasn't even a starter much less a key player with Monterrey. This why I bring up the likes of the Borg or Temoc, these guys were their teams to go guys. You know it's bad when we clamour for players that don't even get first team playing time. So, we are left with a group of young players with good potential but who are clearly having a difficult time transitioning to the senior team.

Now for some good news. The avg age of WC championship teams is 28-32 which will be the avg age of our top players for the 2018 World Cup. Given the good work we have had with Youth teams that squad should be one of our most talented ever. For now its still growing pains of having a squad which top players are all abroad of those players adjusting to Azteca and of being able to cope with high expectations.

I still can't believe you won't hold Chepo accountable in any way.

    Por que?

God forbid you were wrong, Various.

This is one of the worst Mexico teams i have seen in quite a bit of time. We tout the supposed talent we have, but this team is nothing compared to 1998, 2002, 2006, even 2010 is a lot better. This team can't even put together more than 3 passes before someone has a bad touch, and forces us to tap back to Corona for a clear out prayer. Maza looked horrendus. Chicharito was resorting to trying to be a 10 and generate plays. That is just recipe for disaster. If we can't keep possesion ,there is no reason to play Chicharito. Have someone up there that can hold the ball up and dribble (Jimenez, Oribe would have been ideal). We literally looked like a Concacaf team does against us, it was just sad to watch.

WTF are you talking about? Gio looked good, Vela ..Wut?, Cheech, did he even touch the ball?, Mexico as a team sucked balls. Bad passes, stupid errors, we are talking basic fut. On top of that our "young" players like Torrado (34 yrs) and Maza (31 yrs) looked like a bunch of virgins on their first night. I don't mind losing but like this. Yeah, think you are trolling now.

When was the last time we created a 1v1 for cheech?

Hell...our first cross into the box came around the 30' minute mark.

    meh.
    Player selection and formation.

This is exactly what happened with Toluca and chivas.

Chepo's system works at the beginning...but his style becomes predictable and boring.

While I don't disagree with your original point, you are basically deviating any blame that goes towards Chepo. We saw how well the team can play two years ago. We also saw several players that won the Olympics, but Chepo doesn't seem to be able to make the changes necessary for the team to play better. He has the same tactics over and over again expecting different results. That is madness.

Patience is already wearing thin and the team is falling apart at the seams, and I think it can be corrected by chopping the head off figuratively speaking. A big wave of changes are needed and so far Chepo has not shown to be able to make changes of any kind. Despite how terrible the team has looked, he still has tried to force 4-4-2 on the squad. Despite how putrid the middle has been, he continues to play the same mediocre players. Despite there being different options, he continues to go with the same ineffective option. He's most of the problem, and it has been for a year running now.

It doesn't mean that there won't be any growing pains, but this team should be good for at least a round of 16 exit, and the way they're playing there might not be a World Cup AT ALL. That's how bad it has gotten. Something needs to change before this turns into an irreparable situation. There's still time.

Maza had an above average run with the NT while playing in Europe...since returning his form has dipped...

I don't think this is the case...I mean how do you explain Guardado?...but defensive players really seem to dip upon return.

Like I said, tons of Mexi-spazzo wall of shame material here.

From comments like Goalkeeper is the least important position, to some idiotic post about bloodlines (dime de que presumes...)

Aquino had a bad game, people here wanted him out or as a RB... brilliant!

We did not deserve to win, ... at the same time we could have tied without playing better, crappy concacaf teams do it to us all the time, we could not do it to Italy, such is life. Shit maybe we could have even won (without deserving to) si Corona se guardo la mano, si le esta tendiendo la cama, ahi ni me meto, that was a hell of a kick. We did not deserve because we don't play well as a team, who is at fault? You tell me.

Salcido played well, for all the shit he gets from the tweeners here, I think it is worth recognizing. I would get rid of Flores first.

Gio can't do everything alone, I think the game would have been more balanced had Aquino been on.

    /p

Seems to me when they come back they are at a higher level for a few weeks then dip to the level of the FMF.

    Opponents know Guardado now.
