Has anyone here heard about a possible combined Cup between Concacaf and Conmebol to rival the European Championships?

  2. Probably, but I don't think it will happen. The Copa has too much history and tradition to be abandoned. Plus, I don't think CONMEBOL is going to take kindly to the Yanks eventually dominating such a tournament.

It would obviously help Concacaf and the US especially a lot more than it would help South America. I'd even be up for all 10 SA sides plus 6 Concacaf teams at first to appease Conmebol.

What was that "Inter American cup" that DC United won a few years ago by beating the south americanchampion? Does it still exist?

Dixie is confused the PanAmerican cup is a club competition, that CONEMBOl is trying to set up with CONCACAF. As of right now there are no plans to expand the Copa America.

No I'm not confused. I just threw out Pan American Cup because it was the best name I could think of. If that is the name of a Club Cup then I'll stop using it.

I have heard rumors of a Combined Gold Cup/Cop America to rival the EURO's.

O.K. I am sorry for misunderstanding your post. Those rumors of a combined CONCACAF/CONEMBOL tourney are just that rumors. The Copa America has been moved to the summer of 2004. The games will be played in June and July.

I'm guessing you accidentally sorted this forum's threads by date. This is one of the earliest still around.

Usually, when you are reading a thread, the next newer and next older threads in the forum are shown at the bottom of the page. If you are reading the newest thread in a forum, however, there is no next newer thread, and so the software loops around and shows you the oldest thread. This thread was the oldest thread until you posted in it. Now the oldest thread is:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/post-world-cup.2906/

Feel free to read that thread and see appoo demonstrate his long involvement with this forum (and his foresight in guessing that France would host the 2003 Confederations Cup), but please don't go around resurrecting long-dead threads.
