I'm planning on heading to NY in a couple of weeks to spend a few days in the area and have a couple of questions as I take in my first MLS game(I've seen one outdoor game, but it's VERY low on the U.S. soccer pyramid): 1. Ticket-wise, what are the best seats for the money? (I know the sightlines are good for the most part, based on what I've read about RBA-but I don't want to break the bank doing so.) 2. As an add-on to question #1: Even if you're not in a supporters club, can anyone sit in the sections set aside for them?
Just buy a ticket...any ticket and then move to another section if you don't like the view (although just about every seat has good sight lines). We aren't going to sell anything out. Maybe...MAYBE the opener...but doubtful. I believe you can buy tickets to the supporters section, but you MUST stand up the entire game if you do so.
Supporters section may already be sold out actually, upper deck on the end lines are probably next cheapest section. I really like section 201 right above the supporters section, you still catch a lot of the atmosphere with a better view. If you do wander down to the supporters section, which I highly recommend especially if you've had a few, you'll be welcomed so long as you a) stand and sing for 90 minutes and b) don't tell anybody to get out of the seat on your ticket - its general admission regardless of what the ticket says.
Hey all, I'm not too familiar with the beer scene in the area, anyone have a recommendation preferably close to the stadium that would fill a growler? And if so, a specific beer recommendation?
MMM Bellos is a great beer bar right next to Newark Penn Station and a 15 minute walk to the stadium. Ask the owner Manny if he has anything new on the beer list that he recommends. There's a few Portuguese beers they carry that are good too.
I have to ask, you don't plan on taking that growler into the stadium do you? Because if the girl I saw pouring out a full flask of vodka at the gate is any indication, that won't fly with security.
Nah, I wish. It's just an anticipatory post game drink. If anything I'll wind up filling it after the game.
Hey everyone, I recently moved to Jersey for grad school, and have no car. Is there anyway to get to the Meadowlands from New Brunswick (or anywhere on the rail line really) using public transit? I was going to try to go see the Revs this week, but not sure how to get there (only places I've really been outside of NB are the Prudential to see the Devils/Bruins and NYC obviously)
You can take the PATH or NJ Transit to within walking distance of the stadium, just look up the closest station to you and you should be good to go.
Take NJT to Newark Penn Station and walk it. If you can just follow the fans heading to the stadium. Otherwise follow Raymond Blvd. to the Jackson Street Bridge and cross over the Passaic. Once you are on your way, you'll be able to see the Arena. It is only a 15-20 minute walk. Alternatively, get there a little early, walk Ferry Street to find some food (as I am doing tonight) and then cross the bridge. Either way, there's no need to take the Path as it only saves you a little bit of walking time.
Okay cool, thanks. I'm gonna meet the Revs fans at O'Donnels (i think) to get my ticket. Is the area alright at night for the trip back? Everyone tells me horror stories about Newark, but I've never really spent much time there at all.
Two things to keep in mind. Firstly, the Newark Ironbound, the neighborhood adjacent to Penn Station and directly across the bridge to the Arena/Harrison is very safe. It's a normal urban situation, so just use common sense. People of your age and background (generally speaking) live and go out down there every day of the week, not just game days. Secondly, and probably more importantly, you'll be with other folks going to the game. Parking in Harrison is difficult, although not impossible. But many folks do not drive. There are literally thousands of people who walk across the bridge from Newark or from the Path station in Harrison to get to the game. So if you are getting into and out of the area around game time, you'll have a lot of company. If safety is really a concern for you, just stay with the crowd and you'll be fine. All that said, I live in Newark and use the public transit system all the time. I also make the walk from the Ironbound over to the Arena for every game. It is perfectly safe. Your chances of having a problem are no higher than any other urbanized area, including New Brunswick. Common sense will go a long way to keeping you safe.
If you're really going to O'Donnell's in Harrison you might want to see if there is some easy way for you to get on the PATH. The Harrison PATH station is MUCH closer to that bar. Otherwise it's a 20-25 min. walk from NJ Penn Station. If the PATH isn't an option for you then you might also consider hoping the Red Bull pre-game shuttle from Newark Penn to the stadium then walking the difference: http://www.newyorkredbulls.com/HUB/nj-public-directions
New Brunswick, great place. Lots of good bars and places to eat, but just listen to what people have already posted about getting to the game.
Hi. I am a season TH and attend most of the games, but we usually eat at the stadium or Five Guys. Which of the Portuguese places would you recommend for Sunday? Want to get there around 10:45, watch some EPL, leave the car there and walk to RBA. Will be with kids, so that's important. And want to go to a place that will definitely have EPL games (preferably multiple TV's)
I never watch tv when I go there to eat, but chances are they might be watching Portuguese teams. However here are some of the places I like for Portuguese or Brazilian. Portuguese-Adega, Iberia Brazilian-Brasilia Grill, Boi na Brasa Adega is good, but a little pricey. Not sure about lunch prices. No tvs in the dining area, but I think they have some on bar side. http://adegagrill.com/ http://iberiarestaurants.com/ http://boinabrasa.com/ http://www.brasiliagrill.net/
We are coming up from Maryland for the game this weekend. We are staying 1.7 m from the stadium at a hotel in Newark. We have a 3 year old. Where should we eat/hang out pre match? (i'm not afraid of being around our supporters with the three year old. He has been to a few trips to RFK with the south ward)
I always prefer El Pastor simply because of the nice outdoor patio and cheap drafts, and people bring their kids all the time. The food has taken a serious hit as its grown in popularity though, they used to make each order fresh on the grill but now they keep everything in catering trays and the food often gets cold.
