A '91 who played at Louisville. http://www.gocards.com/sports/m-soccer/mtt/delpiccolo_paolo00.html YNT experience: http://www.ussoccer.com/teams/u-20-mnt/d/paolo-del-piccolo.aspx Note: Can someone please fix the spelling of the club name in the thread title?
Another summary of the deal and the Impact's gamble on him. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/01/22/american-exports-delpiccolo-signs-bundesliga-club
https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...invited-to-trial-eintracht-frankfurt.1980035/ Hey I had the original thread last month about Paolo! Seriously, the kid can play and he would have been drafted much, much higher had he not chosen to skip the draft for the trial. The gamble certainly paid off. He actually does remind me a little of another fromer Eintracht and YA player, Ricardo Clark. He's much more refined that Clark was coming out of school but Paolo can definitely carve out a good professional career. I just hope he can breakthrough at Eintracht. It won't be easy. It also sounds like he's been training in Turkey with the 1st team during their holiday break and that he will be assigned to the U-23's initially.
Credited w/an assist in his only game for Eintracht Frankfurt II thus far, for instigating an own goal by Eintracht Trier in a 6:1 romp on 2/22/13: http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/e...acht-trier-05/index/spielbericht_2249264.html The sequence begins at 2:21: http://www.eintracht-frankfurt.de/sportarten/fussball/leistungsteams/u23/kader/paolodelpiccolo.html https://twitter.com/pdp03 https://www.facebook.com/paolo.delpiccolo
For his sake, I am glad Del Piccolo kept the lines of communication with the Impact open. Smart move. Even with a short 6 month contract it would have been easy to close the door and push MLS aside. Montreal is really a solid, solid team that is clicking on all cylinders. It will be tough to break-in. But I'm sure his experience of fighting for a longer contract at Frankfurt was quite the battle, too.
DelPiccolo made 5 starts, 1 sub appearance, and was left on the bench 9 times for Eintracht Frankfurt II. I think he is wise to look to MLS for a situation that could afford him more playing time rather than trying to continue on with a club that may look at him as little more than roster filler for a reserve team that is in danger of being relegated to the fifth division. Of course, as a free agent he could try to drum up interest in Europe, but sometimes it's best to go where you are wanted most, particularly at the start of the season. On the lighter side, "Paolo DelPiccolo" is certainly Italian enough for the Impact, but I question whether he's old enough to capture their attention.
"Paolo's preference is to join MLS rather than remain in Europe." Real Madrid must have been devastated to hear that.
Looks like he scored today in Eintracht Frankfurt II's 4-2 win over Bayern Alzenau. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/...alzenau-5888_eintracht-frankfurt-ii-4415.html
Training with Montreal? https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/...s-1993-or-later.1972639/page-76#post-27938741
Still training with Montreal (played for reserves): http://m.thecrew.com/news/2013/06/mls-reserve-league-match-7-crew-falls-montreal-1-0
Friedel'sAccent bungadiri .... thread close please? He's been back for over a month and has said he would like to pursue his opportunities in MLS, which he is currently doing with the Impact.
