Exciting things going down in Reading this year with the United! Head coach Brendan Burke now coaching the Union Reserves, 4 players drafted in the MLS SuperDraft this year, and 9 alumni playing professionally (5 MLS, 2 USL-Pro, 2 overseas).

We'll have a talented group back this year, including some returning starters and some potential 1st-2nd round draft picks in next year's MLS draft. Come join our Facebook page, check out our website, and discuss the United here!

    Come on the U!

Great stuff, looks like another solid squad assembled in Reading. With all of the rescheduling the City Islanders had to do with the weather, is the friendly between Harrisburg and Reading now off? I was really hoping to see the two link up, hopefully it can still happen this summer.

The friendly is still on. Our official announcement will come in the next few days.

Believe it or not, it was our Union friendly that needed to be rescheduled, but only because of the possibility of the United having a play-in game for the playoffs in the same week.

How do the PDL playoffs work again? I know Reading currently sits 2nd in their division, how many qualify? What's the procedure for hosting games, would Reading have that option if they win the division? Thanks!

Since the Eastern Conference only has three divisions with four spots, the top three division leaders automatically make the playoffs. This year, they're doing something different. Rather than the second place team making the playoffs, they are having the second and third place teams in the Mid Atlantic have a one game playoff for the fourth seed.

So, naturally it behooves a team to gun for that top spot in the division, rather than falling into the one game playoff and possibly missing the playoffs.

It's lining up that Long Island, Reading, and Jersey will be the three teams gunning for two spots, since they're all within six points of each other.

    Long Island (10-0-2, 32 points), Reading (10-1-0, 30 points), Jersey (8-2-2, 26 points)

Neumann is a very good player, looks like United will again stockpile some serious talent. Will he count as homegrown should the Union want him?

FC Lehigh Valley United Sonic (NPSL) @ Reading United AC (PDL): FC LVU Sonic enters the US Open Cup competition for a second consecutive time, only this year with the distinction of being the reigning NPSL champion. FC Sonic will hope to improve on last year's first round loss to the Long Island Rough Riders of the PDL. Reading United are entering the competition for a 5th consecutive time. Last year they defeated NY Greek American Atlas before losing 2-1 to the Charleston Battery (USL Pro).

Should be an interesting match. The timing might be difficult for both teams since many colleges are still in final exams them, but you have the cream of the NPSL against one of the top PDL clubs.

The Twitter account has the game on 5/14 at 7 pm. Hope I can make it, although I've dragged the Mrs to lots of games recently and have a pile of work stacked on my desk, which is why I'm spending so much time on BigSoccer, ah, soccer procrastination...

My Mrs., we'll she not only went with me on our honeymoon to Auckland (had to take 2 busses and a taxi) in order to see New Zealand play Fiji in a WC qualifier in 1997, but she also sat in the freezing drizzle in Christchurch New Zealand while I was the invited overseas referee in a top semi-pro head of the table clash. My wife was pretty peeved to later find that the clubhouse of course had a fully stocked bar with multiple TV sets and of course most important, heat!
