Time to start a new thread for 2013. The link for the 2012 thread can be found at Stanford University 2012 [R]. from gostanford.com: Five Cardinal Receive Assignments to New League Alina Garciamendez '13 - Washington Spirit Nicole Barnhart '04 - FC Kansas City Rachel Buehler '07 - Portland Thorns FC Teresa Noyola '12 - Seattle Reign Kelly O'Hara '10 - Sky Blue FC The new league's college draft takes place in 2 days. It will be interesting to see if seniors such as Mariah and Quon have aspirations to play in the new league.
A little different. Press's contract ran out at the end of the 2012 season since she and Goteburg ended up having a dispute over the contract terms for the next season. Therefore, Press was free to play in the NWSL as she was 'out of contract' for a bit (at least until she signed with Tyreso). Levin, however, had been re-signed for at least another year prior to the end of 2012 so she's already in a contract with Goteburg. As Sweden's season runs from spring to fall and conflicts with the NWSL, Levin is not available to NWSL teams (unless Levin breaks her contract as Goteburg probably will not allow a loan to a NWSL team).
from gostanford.com: Stanford Stars Selected in NWSL Draft Quon - #9 to the hometown Chicago Red Stars, & Mariah - #13 to the Boston Breakers Congratulations to both. Cami is not one of the 24 players that are being paid by USSoccer. So she may go the free agent route ..... Someone's gotta do it

Our HS season was unispiring to say the least, so I hope the Cardinal brings back some needed spring energy to this neck of the woods. I'm not too excited about the competition, but it will be interesting to see if the returning core are already starting to focus on the fall season. It won't get any easier (or prettier) with the departure of Garciamendez, Quon and Noguiera.
Stanford plays Santa Clara at 5 PM on the practice field. Lame! This was a well attended game last spring at Buck Shaw. And no updates from any of the other games? What's happening over there?
If you find the venue so objectionable, may I suggest that you go to the ticket office to get a refund. Oh . . . . . . wait . . . . . . the game is FREE I was at Costco a couple of weeks ago and there was a crowd where they were handing out FREE samples of tequila-lime chx wings. After gorging on a few, an obnoxious woman in a Santa Clara sweatshirt had the audacity to remark that the FREE samples were not to her liking and wished that the FREE samples were of the honey-BBQ variety instead. Was that you by any chance?
Haha! Methinks you find it a bit lame yourself! Untwist those Cardinal knickers... haven't you heard of tongue-in-cheek? Surely the national champs deserve to play in the stadium? AND will possibly draw more of a crowd than the practice field can handle...
Thoughts from a distance ... Santa Clara often does well in spring games with Stanford, then loses twice in the fall. Stanford graduated talented defenders, so there were some "substitute" defenders protecting a "substitute" goalkeeper (I think). There is abundant incoming talent. And, this could be a better-than-usual Santa Clara team, especially with the addition of Morgan Marlborough. SCU also defeated Cal 4-1 this spring. I'd love to see the same result in a few months (SCU grad 1968), but until that happens I wouldn't worry.
