    Little surprise here.

Just hope the crowd shows up in full force like against Jamaica. Seems like every cycle more and more Mexican fans sneak in.

Sucks that this time Crew is limiting Season ticket holders to one ticket per season ticket you have during the Presale. In the past they have allowed like 8-12 per account no matter how many season tickets you have. So if you have 2 season tickets, you will only be allowed to buy 2 tickets during presale. This could help Mexican fans, less tickets will go to season ticket holders from the start.

It will be interesting to see if the US fed gives out the promo codes again via twitter.

Don't be too surprised if the plan to limit Crew season ticket holders to one ticket per season ticket in the presale gets scrapped. Selling several - say 4 per season ticket - but not so many that scalpers get huge wads of tickets this way, is pretty effective way to funnel tickets to USA fans and not Mexican fans. There really aren't a lot of Mexican-American Crew season ticketholders.

All I know is that I will buy my ticket through the AO website.

I'm starting to plan my trip - where is the best place to stay?

Been a while since I've been to Columbus. Do they have pre-game parties organized now?

The night before party will likely be at 4th St. Bar and Grill. It is in the off-campus student housing area, but a short cab ride to downtown. There are a few hotels in the area near Ohio State's campus, but I always recommend staying downtown for out-of-towners. There are some more budget properties over by the stadium, but the area is not the greatest. Try Priceline for a downtown hotel, or the Drury Inn & Suites on Nationwide Blvd.

Let me preface this by saying that I've been to Columbus a number of times for previous USMNT matches going back through 2001. Question I have is this: would it make more sense to have this at a downtown location considering the potential for a large number of traveling fans? My concern is that, considering the above bar is located in a residential-area, having what could be a very large gathering there on a "school night" at the start of the academic term might provide some cause for concern.

    Thanks for the info mate!

I have vague recollections of staying in Columbus for some rugby games, as well as a late 90's trip for dos a cero!

Somehow or other, we always wound up in "German Town". Is that what your referring to as downtown?

German Village is on the south end of downtown. It borders the Brewery District, but is much more residential now than it was the last time you visited. The hub of downtown is now the Arena District and Short North on the north end (W. Nationwide Blvd area). Lots of hotels, restaurants and bars there. If you want to be within walking distance to all of that, I'd recommend the brand new Hilton or Hampton Inn & Suites, both on High St.

Fun fact: The last time Mexico beat the USA in WCQ on US soil?

Believe it or not, 1972 (in qualification for the 1974 World Cup)

Since then, all the matches have been draws or wins for the USA. Though to be fair, Mexico and the USA didn't play each other in 1986, 1990, and 1994 qualification. (Mexico hosted finals in 1986, banned in 1990. USA hosted in 1994)

Whats the best way to purchase tickets for this event? Whats the cheapest ticket for this kind of game? Go on sale? Details please!!!! I see that flights to Columbus are only $150 bucks round trip. I want to jump on that but I am scared that tickets for Mexico vs USA are REALLY expensive.

I paid $34 and $39 for member/nonmember American Outlaw tickets for the 9/11/12 Jamaica game in Columbus. Although I'm paying $55 for the Germany game for AO section on 6/2/13.

I'm betting ~$60 for the AO section for this game though.

The member prices for the June WCQs in Seattle and Salt Lake City are $52 and $53 respectively with non-members being $5 more. So I see Columbus being in this range.

I am not a member. I am talking about worst case scenario. If tickets sell out quickly and if I have to get one from stubhub or a scalper, how much do they go for?

last cycle, i was delayed by bad weather upon returning from a trip, and was unable to get my tickets on the first onsale date. needless to say, it sold out. shortly afterward, i was able to secure two tickets from some site (i'd tell you what it was, but i've long since forgotten) for, i believe, $125 a piece. whether that was typical or not, i cannot say, but i certainly couldn't find some any cheaper, or i'd've bought them. still, it seems to me that demand is going to be very much higher this time around, and anyone sitting on spares will be able to command significantly more than that.

or, put differently, i'm gonna make damn sure that i'm ready to go when they go are. i do not want to have to get them secondhand again.
