I was willing to give Gus a chance but I agree that it's incredibly stupid to use him for all the big games. They could easily have him call games like QPR v Man Utd from yesterday or Wigan v Liverpool next weekend. Big enough but not the marquee matchup of the weekend. Stick him on Dortmund v Shaktar. He would get experience without pissing everyone off just the people watching the secondary matchup.

It is really really funny that you think that your position on this is anything but the extreme extreme minority that any television executive should lose his job if he even thinks about giving it credibility.

So far so good in the Daytona 500. This broadcast needs a little Gus Johnson to send it over the top, though.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Wow! I cant wait for the 2018 World Cup! Haha! Such foolishness! I wonder at what point in his budding soccer career he'll mention how Cristiano Ronaldo has "get away from the cops speed"?

Its the degree to which they are hyping the Daytona thats annoying.

The advertising has swamped their EPL telecasts this weekend. All for an event that isnt THAT big. I mean every weekend there is something like this. In fact not even the biggest Tv event of the day in this country

Like I said, outside of the FOX bug having the hashtag, I didn't notice Gus Johnson mention it one time at all during the MCFC-CFC match.

That could be because I tuned him out, or it could be because he didn't mention it. At any rate, the telecast of the match wasn't interrupted much the way an NFL, MLB or other sports broadcast has the announcer read promos during a lull in the action, or when they come back from a commercial. Halftime? Don't watch because they spoil results of other games.

    Thx,

    Jay!

What is up with showing highlights of the Newcastle game before they show the Newcastle game?

Isn't that a lot to ask someone to watch a game they already know the score of?

This isn't specifically against Gus Johnson, but I really wish there was a button on the broadcast that could mute the commentary and just give me crowd noise. The player for MLB.tv has this option and it's pretty great.

I have eyes. I can already see what's going on.

This may seem counter intuitive, but looks to me like Johnson is more capable as a soccer announcer than a pigskin announcer. That touchdown call is the epitome of NFL narration gone bad. That "dumb jock" persona hasn't materialized on Fox Soccer so far, thankfully.

He must be pretty clueless about American football then. Doesn't even understand soccer. When Mata was standing in an offside position and the ball was fed to him, Mata obviously didn't go for it because he knew the flag would go up. But to Johnson this was bizarre and he said something to the effect that Mata didn't see the ball. lol

Okay, I admit I'm bored. I actually wrote down some actual play-by-play from Johnson today. He should be the announcer on Playstation FIFA '14 because it would be so easy for the software developers to mimic an announcer whose average sentence is 1.4 words. Even I could program this:

"Milner. Advancing. Aguero. Edge of the box. Supporters. Into it. Silva. Fires! Chelsea. Scary moment."

If that's not bad enough, the "fires" comment was in response to a cross.

If you have surround sound, fiddle with the options. My system had an option where I can sit beside the rear side speakers and barely hear the commentary coming from the center speakers.

Failing that, FOX Deportes had the British guys (Martin Tyler?) on SAP.

Peter Drury & Jim Beglin called City/Chelsea yesterday on the international feed which could be accessed on FOX Deportes by turning on the SAP option on the cable box. Martin Tyler & Gary Neville called the game on Sky Sports.

From what I've noticed the English Commentary doesn't feed on the SAP option on replays of games. It does work during live games. Apparently there are some carriers that don't offer the SAP option. It does work with my carrier which is Brighthouse.

GUJO has gotten worse, he was worse during Arsenal - Bayern, he sucks, clearly doens't know the rules.

why are they doing this? whatever happened to the Fox that got the CL and said they'd have on-site euro audio b/c they knew that's what hard-core fans wanted?

oh, and btw, GuJO isn't a rookie, he's called Quake games for like a year right?

just stop flipping with it!

    Same time Poirot became French....

The obvious conclusion of an adult lacking any sense of deductive reasoning, he must be French since his last club was based in France..
