I was half saying that in jest. There is no doubt Funes Mori is talented, but the guy's head is so completely off and he has zero footballing intelligence, hence as Steazy McCloud said, he continuously ends up off sides and almost always makes the wrong decisions in the box. You know in the last year he has had the likes of David Trezeguet and Fernando Cavenaghi to learn from, and now Ramon Diaz who was a LEGEND as a goalscorer, and it appears as if he's actually regressed. He ended last season by going over 700 minutes without scoring. Now, with Trezeguet back and healthy, he's riding the bench. Hopefully, he'll sit back and learn some things about being a top level #9 Also, we River fans may be a little harsh on Funes Mori, but you know, there is a lot of pressure playing here, and we fans are used to the likes of Cavenaghi, Saviola, Higuain, Falcao, Diego Buonanotte... Kids who at 18 were far better than Funes Mori is at 22
On second thought.. Maybe we've got this all wrong. FM9 goes to play for the US, wins the world cup, then comes his transfer to Real Madrid or Barcelona, then...
You're overestimating us. We could definitely use a player of his caliber, even if he's completely out of form now. We're not spoiled with Tevez, Messi and Kun Aguero. Oh...and Higuain. SPOILED I SAY!
The problem with FM, he just isn't a good player. Yeah, he is just 21 but now you should see some progress, not regression. To play a #9, you need to have that feel for goal and I just don't see it. At the same age, Facundo Ferreyra aka Chucky, is a much, much better player than him. If you guys were going after him, i'd say, you have something there. All I can say is, you will find yourself very frustrated at times(most of the time) with him if in fact you do manage to give a cap.
Funes Mori is probably the best at hold-up play at River. Trezeguet is the most intelligent forward, and always knows where to lay it off, but I haven't even seen Luna (who must weigh almsot twice as much as FM9) hold up the ball as well as him. And, let's not forget that Higuain for example didn't really become the goal-scoring freak he is now until he was about 22 -- Funes Mori is certainly no Higuain, but the kid has got talent, and is certainly just as good if not better than any current up-and-coming American striker.
Upon more thought I also think FM9 would be half decent with the US. He's got some skills and definitely needs a change of scenery. It's not easy playing in Argentina either especially at a club like River. I mean the league is on the way backup but its not exactly great class football , however it's a struggle very week. It's not the wide open attacking football that people imagine when they think of Argentina, its a physical crawl more often than not with teams really uglying up games looking for a result. At this point futbol Argentino isn't quite appealing to someone without an emotional investment like all of us, and its not a league to show are ones decent to pretty good skills. I mean for example look at what's happening with Fernando Gago, he has been comsistently on of the best players for la seleccion this last year and is finding how he wants to play and is used to playing isn't going to work like it should. Funes Mori could easily wind up slaying all the CONCACAF bums if given the chance. It's ugly football too but at least teams genuinely want to and think they can beat the US, which can lead to at least a wide open game.
Not sure is SupaMario is lurking, but if he is... I have to say to you man, this kid Botta es un crack. Unbelievable player
Of course I am . Yeah, he keeps trying to find openings on the counter. Has a lot of moves but at times is a bit frustrating when he tries too much. But yes, talented player.
Has he renewed his contract yet? I know it was due to expire this June, and many teams -including River- were keeping an eye on his situation.
BTW, hopefully we see more action in the second half. Both teams are battling out each ball til death, but there's simply not enough football.
I know I was a bit hard on Lanzini during the Sub 20's, he shows promise but I haven't seen him improving much. uuuuuu... That was close.
This is what we've been asking for the past 2 years. I've never seen a player completely lose his level like this
I thought Pirez and Pezzella had a strong chance of being the CB's of the future. They had such a strong understanding for the game. Well, I hope Pezzella comes back healthy, and better than ever.
Thanks. Pezzella is a real crack. Pirez I always thought was a bit rustic, but I never thought he'd be this bad. I mean, the kid is painful to watch. In addition to all the fouls he commits, he's unable to pass a ball along the ground. He can only hit pelotazos. I don't think I've ever seen him hit a good pass
