Crew fall to Montreal 1-0 in a dull Mouse Cup final. Best of ESPN 3 announcer highlights: - Arrieta is a lazy forward for getting caught offsides so many times - The Impact's possession system would not hold up as well against a team with an actual offensive threat - Crew Stadium has been around for 5-6 years - Ivy league sports teams have trouble out of conference - It is much more exciting to watch a sports game if your team is playing in it - Surname pronunciation is an "A for effort" discipline - Kevin Corke's french teacher was from Montreal and even fifteen years later refuses to adopt an American accent - Brazilian people, as we all know, are fanatical about both soccer and vacations to Disney World - Tom Fitzgerald was the Crew's first coach - Shoelaces in soccer are called shoelaces
Now I remember why I don't watch preseason soccer. Not a whole lot of good stuff going on. I like Finlay over Oduro on the right. Sanchez didn't do a whole lot. Wahl was unimpressive at left back. Chad looked like he's back to his solid self. Arrieta looked especially rusty in possession. Those announcers were like some sort of post-modern performance art. They started talking about recognizable teams and people, but the comments were totally generic and nonsensical. My favorite was the discussion of Kevin's French teacher that ended in him declaring that she's a beautiful person.
Okay, I really don't want to take whatever *that* was too heavily, but it does mean that the first team has, what, one goal from the run of play all preseason? Maybe 2-3, but I'm still a bit worried. Rethinking the 4-4-1-1 to a diamond mid could help: Arrieta. - Oduro Higuaín Speas/Finlay - Gaven Sanchez Viana - Glauber? - Marshall - JW3 Greeny Thoughts?
Announcer Kevin Corke = Black Beau Bishop = Zero soccer IQ = Me screaming at my laptop = My dog continually thinking he's in trouble.
- The USA lost to Guatemala in the world cup qualifiers because Landon Donovan wasn't there. It got much better after I muted my speakers.
I don't always post rack photos, but when I do it's something woefully outdated and somewhat depressing. For winning runner up in the Mouse Ears Invitational, the Crew and their fans get pretty much the only picture of famous Mouskateer, Anette Funicello, I could find that gives any true indication of her endowment: Oh sure, it's small, black and white, and pretty much worthless, by today's standards. And yet it's the perfect compliment to this tournament and the result. So just feast your eyes on that, my fine chaps . . .
The Polish Red Ryder BB Gun just scored in the KU15 Memorial match, so I guess we know what we will be signing for Crewsmas.
So, since neither game had an "A", or a "B" team, is it safe to say that those that played in the win vs. UNC will start next Saturday? I mean, clearly they're better and more responsibl"er" than those that played on Saturday night, right?
1-0 to the Crew on a goal from Lil' Rifle. http://www.thecrew.com/news/2013/02/black-gold-tar-heels-honor-fallen-teammate
Is this going to be the lineup or next week? -----------Gbaum------ Williams-Marshall-Garber-Wahl Oduro-Viana-Sanchez-Gaven ----Higuain-Arrieta-----
I would have to agree with the exception of Don Garber. I think we will more likely see Glauber in that position! I don't know that I'm sold on Oduro at RM although I think he is our starter heading into week 1. I like his speed but I'm not sure he has much more to offer. I hope I'm wrong though!
As long as our new DM's can control games then I think Oduro will be further forward as more of a type of wing forward than a conventional RM. Gaven should have more responsibilities helping out the 2 CM's freeing up Dom to make diagonal runs in the channel for Higuain to pick out. But if we can't dictate things and control tempo and Oduro has to defend too much, then yeah we have a problem over there.
Ouch. Well, I suppose I left myself open there. If you're gonna be like that I just won't post those nifty pictures I found of Myrna Loy's calves. It's your loss, Pally. See?
