I don't think competition really works with strikers though. See: Real Madrid (Higuain-Benzema rotation).

It doesn't work with star strikers. It could push an "on the brink" striker into being a star.

See: Borussia Dortmund (Lewandowski overtakes Barrios) ;)

His wages are way outside Dortmund's range, if they could pay someone that much they would've just offered Lewandowski a more lucrative contract.

The first part was intended as a joke. Although, a limited midfielder who works very hard like Grosskreutz has gone for 25M - I am talking about James Milner. I dont know how that happened.
The Piszczek/Jung thing is realistic but I know it is not going to happen. Jung looks the real deal but I agree we`ll have to wait for at least one more good season.

All the starting players being German would be nice but it is not important. I think it can happen in like 3 years with Sarr, Guenter coming in and probably Subotic leaving for one of the richer clubs. Piszczek and Kuba will be 31. Bittencourt will replace Kuba. Lewa is going to leave.

    This.

Plus, Klopp has already publicly stated if Dzeko wants to join BVB, he's going to have to take a pay cut. It is all already "out there" when it comes to Dzeko. The club is not going to break its salary structure for Edin Dzeko.

    At least not yet.........

I'm sorry. I couldn't tell. But it was a very good joke. I was literally crying with laughter! Thanks for that one! :)

That's easy. It was an EPL transfer. You can't really use an EPL transfer as a base for what goes on in the "real football world......."

I would not sell Piszczek just to get a young German player. Piszczek still has a lot to give. Why would we expect our players to show loyalty if we're willing to dump them as soon as a younger one shows a bit of potential? You should not forget that loyalty works both ways......

What if we need a good player who is a bit older in the future and they all see that this is the kind of "loyalty" we show our players?

    Come on man.

I think Piszczek and Kuba will still be effective players when they're 31. This isn't the 1970s where players are shot at 29.

Dude, why are you seemingly always in a rush to anoint "the next generation" as "ready" before any of them have proven a thing? Especially when they're German? Sometimes, it really seems as if you have a nationalist agenda.

A week or two ago, at the depth of our injury/suspension issues which I feel cost us our home match against HSV, I thought there might be some problems between Moritz Leitner and Borussia Dortmund.

I am happy to report it seems those suspicions of mine were completely off-base.

In response to some transfer speculation about him after an interview he apparently did with the Munich press, Moritz Leitner wrote the following on his Facebook page today:

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Heute war mal wieder Spekulationstag in der Presse: NEIN. Ich spreche nicht mit anderen Clubs. NEIN.

    My best translation:

Today was again "speculation day" (about me) in the media: NO! I am not speaking with other clubs! NO! I do not want to leave BVB! (I feel super here!). I am thinking of the here and now and how I can break through against strong competition. Yes, I will give 100% effort to do this.

There is nothing more to say about this issue.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This, my friends, is how you CRUSH stupid speculation!

If more players took the time to do this, the f#cking HACKS who call themselves "football journalists" would have to work a lot harder at their jobs......

    Spot on.
Anytime an English player is mentioned in automatically deduct 20% from it

A year ago it was Oxlade chambo, We are still waiting for Walcott to storm the world, Lennon, Joe Cole, Joe Hart, Micah Richards, etc are some of the English kids who should already be dominating football now

The only English player that merits the "hype" for me is Wilshere. I remember him from the U-17 EUROs in '09. England crashed out but Wilshere stood even against Germany and was voted into the team of the tournament. Very talented kid.

The thing about Wilshere is that I think he is strong and quite physical always determined but limited in talent

At your youth physical abilities can distinguish you and make up for lack of talent but as you grow older when your peers become equally strong your advantage reduces and your limitations become obvious. E.g Poldi strong as a kid more than his peers everyone hailed him now when everyone else caught up with the strength his inabilities became pronounced vs someone like Reus who gets blown away by the breeze but later his raw talent excelled.

Theres a limit to which strength and physical presence can take you in this Sport. Watch those African teams in under aged tournaments and wonder why few of them ever make it big

Joe Hart has become an excellent shot stopped to, but yeah Wilshere is by far England's best player right now and the one who actually lives up to the hype. The guy's a rich man's Lewis Holtby, and that's an excellent player.

I'd disagree, Wilshere has very good technique to complement his physique, which by the way is pretty close to ideal IMO.

Truth is Poldi has been one of Arsenals best players this season as horrible as that sounds and Cazorla has been somewhat disappointing for whatever reason. Only Walcott and Wilshere can claim to be better than Poldi.

Poldi 13 goals 11 assists in all competition
Santi 9 goals 8 assists in all competition

Hart's brilliant at shot-stopping, but his composure, decision-making, and handling need work. I'd agree about Wilshere, and nice comparison to Holtby. Has the potential to become an English Ballack.

What position does Wilshere play on the field and who are the best players in that role? Pirlo, Xavi, Schweini, Martinez, Alonso?
Do you see Wilshere growing up to be them? I see a Gundogan Alcantara, Kroos as the future in those role.

Jack has more grit than those but composure, vision, skill he pales in comparison

I see him more as a KPB maybe if he lives up to his maximum potential might be a Vidal

The Holtby comparison says it all. I agree a Holtby rich or poor isnt still a big deal to be heralded as the next big thing.
E.g whats Holtbys worth among German players of his age?

Were Wilshere German or Spanish he might never have up to 15 caps
