Interesting....... I was just checking up on the Mori Bros. a few days ago. Both are exceptional talents but Rogelio has the edge same could be said about Hoyos. I just don't know how he's played since recovering from his accident. I wonder if this rumor has any substance. Jorge Ramos can be hit or miss. I also wonder if they would accept. Mori has appeared for the Sr. Argentina squad and Hoyos for the U-20's
I was surprised by that name-drop as well but he lived here for roughly 7 years. Its certainly possible. I didnt think he ever got citizenship though.
Hoyos has supposedly not been the same. Davies 2.0 is what ive heard essentially. Who knows though, he obviously has a lot more time than Davies..
I don't think Funes Mori is a US Citizen either. Wasn't his dad trying to get him a green card with the Sueno MLS deal? Besides, he has already played for Argentina senior's team without having a US passport I presume, so that's a lost cause. Hoyos on the other hand, is still available.
That was an unofficial friendly, so it doesn't count as a cap. He is still eligible to play for another nation, as long as he gets his paperwork sorted.
I mean, clearly if Funes Mori is available to play for us he walks into our 23, and probably our XI, but I'm pretty sure he's not available because isn't there some sort of provision in the FIFA rules saying that even if its an unofficial match, you have to at least have citizenship/passport at the time of playing for one country, for the other country in order to eventually switch to them no? I could have sworn I've heard that rule somewhere. Since he played for Argentina before getting his citizenship, he wouldn't be able to switch over even if it was only a friendly. Hoyos would be a good pickup though.
Count me as one who really is skeptical that Hoyos could help the US team right now. After the car crash, he's been a non factor
That's.... not a lot. Hard to imagine he's getting called up to any national team unless he starts playing, be it in Are-hen-tee-nah or coming home and playing in MLS. As for Funes Mori, unless he became a US citizen by mid-January of 2011, he's cap-tied to Argentina. That January, Funes Mori played for Argentina in the 2011 South American U20 championships, a COMNEBOL-sanctioned event that doubles as that confederation's qualifiers to the U20 FIFA World Championship. As most of you know, qualifiers, even for YNT events, are cap-tying events, or provisionally cap-tying for those with multiple national team options. (Hoyos played in this event as well but he was a US citizen at the time so he is only provisionally cap-tied and can still apply for his switch.) Funes Mori scored Argentina's first goal, versus Peru, in their U20 qualifier/championship, Jan. 19, 2011. Now, maybe he got US citizenship before mid-January 2011. Stranger things have happened. But unless he did, he's not eligible to play for this country. And until Hoyos starts consistently playing for a club somewhere, his eligibility for the US is a moot point. That said, if he does start getting that playing time and is playing well, I'd gladly welcome him to the US national team. And if Fumes Mori got US citizenship before playing in the SA championships, I'd take him, too!
I have no idea what Funes Mori's standing is with the US as far as paperwork, but if you watch this video made by the United States Embassy in Buenos Aires made a few weeks ago, you can see a picture of the Funes Moris with the US Ambassador to Argentina and the debuty ambassador. Fast forward to 2:20 I doubt it means much, but it certainly can't be a bad thing if he's having his pictures taken with such important people.

You think Klinsmann is just getting 'a bit nervous at current squad?' You must not be paying attention; according to BSers we are going down baby. Unless of course Klinsmann can pull a few more dual national rabbits from his hat. Or some other U20s surprisingly turn into the greatest thing since...or who knows, stranger things have happened - Jozy could locate his USMNT scoring boots. Back to Hoyos, does sound premature to turn to him after all of - one - first team match, as any kind of USMNt miracle worker.
I truthully wasnt impressed with Hoyos with what i saw of him during the pan american games with Argentina. If we can get Funes Mori, thatwould be more interesting. He's talented...but no where near the caliber a starting player for River was in their prime. He's no Crespo, Saviola, or even Salas. Funny thing is, I watch him and I see more of an American player than argentine.
So basically we're talking about a kid who can switch to the US who doesn't play and a kid who (likely) can't switch to the US. Talk about a non-story.
Talk about desperation for miracle workers to appear somewhere, anywhere, since current squad has been acting like - Canada - is a tough challenge Which even an Argentine benchwarmer would laugh at - no offense to our Canadian friends. Ok, maybe a little offense. Still, even if the story just reflects a Juergen phone call to check in with Hoyos, I'm happy Juergen is still - looking on every bench?
Not that I don't believe you but I recall seeing an interview he did a couple years back(it was when he won that MLS award) and I do not want to sound insensitive or anything, if he lived in the US for 7 years since he was 11, he sure had a hard time putting sentences together in English. He came to the US at 11? That's an age where you still have the ability to learn a language quickly. I can't find the video now but I am sure he must of gone back to Argentina for periods at a time. Oh well, I will continue to watch what happens.
