Great thread and players! Surely I'm forgetting some names. I will mention just a few.

GK Edgardo ANDRADA - Vasco da Gama - Argentina
Between 1969 and 1975, Andrada was the #1 in Vasco. He won the Campeonato Brasileiro 1974 and the Bola de Prata 1971. It is also known to have suffered the thousandth goal of Pelé.

DF Diego LUGANO - São Paulo - Uruguay
Overcame the distrust of the crowd and became idol of São Paulo after winning the Campeonato Brasileiro 2006, Taça Libertadores 2005 and the FIFA Club World Cup 2005. He won th Bola de Prata in 2004 and 2005.

    • MF Clarence SEEDORF - Botafogo - Netherlands
It is the largest transfer of a foreigner in the history of brazilian football. Seedorf already shines in Brazil with his elegant football and his strong personal opinions. Until June 2014 in Botafogo, he will have time for scored many goals, assists and awards.

    -

    My Brazil team:
Mazurkiewicz; Sorín, Figueroa, De León, Arce; Maldonado, Rincón, Conca, Petkovic, Romerito; Tévez

I believe Ruben Paz played for Internacional as well as Racing so he could be in either team.
Diego Forlan is in the same situation, Independiente and now Internacional

How about Juan Ramon Carrasco? He played for River and Racing in Argentina, and he might have played in Brasil also. That guy got around.

Yes, Ruben Paz could be in both teams, but I thought it would be weird to place him twice. And he had a better peak for Racing (south american player of the year - 1988) than for Internacional (bola de prata - 1985).

Forlan still has a lot to prove in Internacional, he has done nothing there yet while he had 2 good seasons (99-00 and 01-02) and 1 really good (00-01) for Independiente.

Carrasco did nothing worth of being a contender for these teams [a sub for River, only one good season for Racing (team topscorer) and he is not even remembered here in brazil as a player (São Paulo FC)]

Great team and well remembered names!
Seedorf is one of my favourite players and it's awesome to see he playing for Botafogo. Some weeks ago a crazy journalist (and unknown to me) even said that Seedorf already was an Idol at the level of (or greater than) Heleno de Freitas for Botafogo.
You're right, most people remember Andrada for the Pelé's 1000th professional goal but he was also a great GK, he is remembered in argentina as the best GK from rosario central's history.
About Lugano, to be honest I never liked his playing style (unnecessary roughness many times like W. Samuel, Pepe - :D) but he really was a monster for SP's defense.

5 unofficial matches for Vasco in 1995. Remember your period here is funny for being an american. He didn't show his football. :)

I'd add Morel Rodriguez - Paraguay to the defenders. He had incredible years at Boca and San Lorenzo.

You could also maybe make a case for Juan Pablo Angel - Colombia as a forward with River Plate.

    Some other candidates would be

    Mario Yepes- River - Colombia

    Jorge Bermudez- Boca - Colombia

And also Ruben da Silva- Uruguayan who played for River, Boca, and Rosario Central. He was top scorer in the league a few times.

For goalkeeper- Jose Soriano- River- Peru. He was the goalkeeper during La Maquina, and didn't get too much credit historically due to the frontline getting all the headlines, but he was a really good keeper by all acounts.

Another that came to mind is Ricardo Rojas- Paraguay- played for Estudiantes and River where he became a here for an amazing golazo against boca in 2002

Well said, Morel Rodriguez could easily be in the squad, he would be my second LB, after Ricardo Pavoni.
JP Angel would make my honorable mentions list.

    Great names!
Bermudez, Yepes and Soriano are definitely contenders.
About Rojas, i don't know much about him, never appeared in my radar. I read more about Rojas and he looked like just an ok player, nothing special (In a Benfica forum most people said he lacked talent).
Ruben da Silva is already in the list. :D

By the way, RiverGaucho , which Uruguayan RB was better in Argentina? Sergio Villar or JJ Gonzalez? From what I read, Villar seemed a little bit more complete and played in a better team. But I'm not sure who would be the starter.

The thing about Rojas was that he never put a foot wrong. He was spectacular by any means, but he was a good leftback and he was very two footed. Its also true that in Argentina we have a huge shortage or fullbacks. At River, we had Juan Pablo Sorin, but when he left it was impossible to find a decent leftback until Rojas showed up. He will be in the hearts of River fans for this goal in one of the biggest bailes in the history of the superclasico.

As for your other question, I unfortunately never saw either of these two people play. They were before my time, I will ask my dad to get his opinion.

As for who would start, I'd have to say you couldn't go wrong with a front three of Francescoli-Salas-Alzamendi.

River has always been an ideal location for Uruguayan players. Another Uruguayan who was a legend was Luis Cubilla

I think Chilean Jorge Valdivia (Palmeiras) could be a candidate.

Severino Varela and Walter Gómez played as forwards in Argentina.

    Navarro Montoya was Argentine though.

Two class players from Bolivia, Melgar is a Boca legend...too bad the club international success came a bit after he had left.

    RIP Chocolatin.

Well, I can say 2 names:

Victor Aristizabal (Colombia) - He was part of one of the best teams of Cruzeiro's history - "The 2003'Triple Crown" - State Championship (Estadual de Minas Gerais), Brazilian Cup (Copa do Brasil) and National Championship (Brasileirão). 54 games, 28 goals, all in 2003.
Alberto Gallardo (Peru) - Played for Palmeiras from 1966 to 1967. He played 45 games (23 wins, 12 draws and 10 losses), and made 21 goals. He had a pretty good passage, helping the team to win 2 titles:1966'Paulistão (State championship) and 1967'Torneio Roberto Gomes de Pedroza (National tournament that had the value of a National championship).

Here's a list of all peruvians that played in Brazil:
    1- Jesús Villalobos (Fluminense/1954)
    2- Alberto Gallardo (Palmeiras/1966-1967)
    3- Ramón Mifflin (Santos/1974)
    4- Juan C. Cabanillas (Sao Paulo/1989)
    5- Percy Olivares (Fluminense/1996)
    6- Roberto Palacios (Cruzeiro/1997)
    7- Abel Lobatón (Atlético-PR/2000)
    8- Carlos Flores (Atlético-PR/2000)
    9- Jorge Soto (Flamengo/2000)
    10- Marko Ciurlizza (Botafogo/2001)
    11- Flavio Maestri (Vitória/2003-2004)
    12- Martín Hidalgo (Inter/2006-2007) (Gremio/2007-2008)
    13- Víctor Rossel (Esportivo/2008)
    14- Luís Ramírez (Corinthians/2011)
    15- Paolo Guerrero (Corinthians/2012)

Only Gallardo and Guerrero had success, the others collected mediocre to ok/nothing special passages.
