Probably too early to call it a failure, but it is a little disappointing. I expected better than a slightly more polished version of GOLTV

They have been in existence 5 months?

I might cut them a little slack.

This is an interesting perspective.....If i sucked at my job for the first 5 months, i would have been sacked.

I get that they are trying to figure some things out and trying to develop an identity. But most of the things they do wrong are easily fixable. For example, can't they hear that the start of almost every broadcast that uses in-studio announcers features non-stop mic handling noise as the announcers move the microphones into place? This kind of thing never happens at Gol, at FSC, at ESPN, or even a local Fox affiliate. I have no problem with mic handling noise when I listen to college radio; in fact, I expect and appreciate such imperfections then. But this is a multi-million dollar company. Fix the problem.

Same thing with the 90in30 foolishness. Save that for later in the week. Show complete matches and don't worry about airing games on delay within reason. Basically, Saturday morning-Monday night should be non-stop football with some other secondary sports mixed in when time allows.

These two problems are easily fixed. But the station seems to be run by amateurs. As Cesc said above, if anyone else made similar types of blunders in their job they would be sacked.

With all that said, this was a much better weekend for football. A lot more Serie A and Ligue 1.

If you take it even further from Schapes, new employees are cut a lot of slack in their first 5 months but established career workers (ESPN) are punished and blamed when they don't focus on a minor task (keeping rights to soccer) even though they put in better effort than they ever had before. Would be tough to have him for a boss.

It is a new channel. I am going to cut them some slack. I never had La Liga before. Really enjoying that. I guess my expectations aren't as high as everyone else's.

In terms of ESPN, they have shown there true colors with the big college football playoff contract. I get it.

    Just own up to it.

Trying to wrap my head around this, specifically the sentence in bold. I don't quite follow...

As per expectations, the days when football fans in the US are grateful a/any corporation is doing us a favor broadcasting European football game(s) @ a charge is long gone. That ship sailed years ago mate. It is no longer a dictatorial process where what you see is what you get unless this is a charity organization and profit is not an issue. If what you offer these days is below par, lacks value or not remotely close to what is expected by consumers of this product, would be hard to break-even and stay afloat.

That said, the issue of contention here is bein over-promised and under-delivered.

BTW - in addition to the other short-comings already pointed out, you would have high expectations if you ever heard/hear PBT or Sid Lowe call a La-Liga game..

    Best....

If he never had La Liga before he probably means he didn't get ESPN Deportes or Gol TV which used to have La Liga.

I give them credit because they stepped up and bought the USA road qualifiers when ESPN wouldn't.

In terms of the quality of production, would I like it to be better.

But, I have enjoyed watching La Liga on a regular basis( never had Goltv.

So to summarize... BeIN - good at buying matches, not good at showing matches.

I really like Bein Sport and don't think it's a failure yet. But, one thing that pisses me off is the Directv guide on Friday said at 7pm it would be showing Total Italian Football even the programming guide on Beinsport.tv had this too.. I set my DVR and when I went to watch it was a basketball show instead. I don't understand how Bein and Directv can't get their programming guide straight. Does anyone else find this irratating?

Was I able to watch Ligue 1 on my tv otherwise? Not a failure to me.

I am not sure if I agree with the heading of this thread, So far, this guys are doing a better job than Goltv did with La Liga and Serie A. These along with the South America qualifier are the only products that I care for. Fox does a great job with the EPL, and with Copa Libertadores on the Spanish side. Bein en Espaniol is a good product, and unlike goltv, they are bringing other sports that have no viewership in America, but may do some time in the future. The Handball tournament was interesting. And they may try to bring in some European Basketball tournaments that no one else in this country will be interested of bringing.

So, I give them credit for bein different. Production of their live programming is better than Goltv but not as good as ESPN and Fox. So there is some work to be done, but this is not a failure.

I agree with you totally except for not having their program grid synched up with Directv's.

The EPG Programming is a problem, but I have TWC with a Tivo and the programming on my end is working. Nonetheless, this does not qualify as a failure.

I call it a failure when you DVR a program and they show something totally different than what you wanted to watch.

The programming confusion comes from the 2 channels and the lack of understanding by the providers (and TV guide listing pages) that will often interchange the information from the 2 beIn channels.

Having said that, the fault ultimately lies with beINSport itself who has not perhaps done a good enough job in distinguishing the 2 channels to their providers. Being treated like a replacement of GOL-TV (as it was for almost all cable providers and DirecTV) which was really 1 video channel with 2 audio channels, the providers are treating beIN the same way, therefore info for the "espanyol" channel makes it into the guide for the "HD" channel and vice versa.

Not really sure what beIN could have done besides naming the 2 channels completely differently but there is definitely a communication breakdown and as usual, the fans suffer...

Let's see - could you watch any of the road qualifiers on ESPN?

Yet, they could show a friendly that means nothing with good production.

I was much more interested in watching the US vs Honduras with some glitches.

As opposed to France Germany in a slick presentation.

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but one thing that is irritating is that they put in their programming guide (and show on the screen) a game being "live" when it is, in fact, tape delayed.

The Barca game last weekend was advertised as being live. I should have known something was up since it had something like a 4:55pm EST start on BeIn Espanol which would be 11 or 12pm in Spain. Things do start late there, however.

I realized it was taped when I checked twitter during halftime and people were already posting the final score.
