I will actually do you one better and name 4 Crew players. Rob Smith, Brian McBride, Ricardo Irrabarren, and Miles Joseph (who played for the Crew in 2000)
Miles Joseph had just come onto the field at RFK when Ben Olsen(?) headed the ball past Mark Simpson for what turned out to give us our first win there. A few years later, wasn't he seen working at Wal-Mart?
I'm glad you came up with that because I was ready to say it was Eduardo Hurtado, and I would have been dead wrong.
Irrabarren's only playing season with the crew was 1998. If I remember correctly, I think some kind of visa issue kept him from returning the following year. So that Jersey for sure was used in 1998.
Ricardo played with the Crew in 1996, then visa issues prevented him from returning in 1997, and then he came back to Columbus to play in 1998.
Wasn't that Mike Duhaney after he went to Germany, barely played, and then returned to Columbus only to be seen working at WalMart?
Pretty sure I recall it being Sam's Club on Brice Rd. Someone went in late at night and he was stocking shelves.
Not Ben Olsen but villain of the century Richie Williams. I made a small banner at our DC game that said "Thanks Richie".
William Hesmer follows in Robbie Rogers footsteps, retires and then announces he is gay. Half of this is true. http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/2013/02/hesmer-makes-his-exit.html Thanks Will, when you scored vs TFC, my little yellow heart grew three sizes that day. LEGEND.
Remember -- we can't celebrate a Massive Champion's retirement -- some people might view it as political.
I haven't been able to find Dwight's call, but here you go. He scored the same number of goals and assists that season that Rogers did.
We shouldn't celebrate his retirement. We should thank him for his contributions to the team and wish him well with the rest of his life. Same as with Robbie.
Well, just like Robbie, I thought Will peaked in 2008 and never quite got back to that level again. Which is OK -- he was still a solid contributor, and helped us win the Cup. It's unfortunate that injury will put an end to his career, but it sounds like he's got plans beyond soccer. So nothing but the best to him.
And with that, I'm outta here. Slams by two out of three mods for merely for asking for *fairness*. I have no public stance on tRR except to wish him well--just as I wish Will well. Given the rules of my workplace and the community service I am involved in, where I represent quite a few people, some whose views may differ from mine, and the fact that my screen name is close to my real name, I have no choice but to be as neutral as possible--in public. And I do not expect "free speech" here. BS isn't running this site out of the goodness of their hearts. But I did expect *fair* speech--for those who are free to speak, unlike myself. Mods must be *impartial* no matter how much they may dislike a view. I'm not sure I have the temperament for that, so I'd not want to be a mod. But I'm wondering if anyone does. In this age where truth is defined by belief, it is very difficult to be truly impartial. The media--left and right--certainly is not. But I had hoped for better here. I will make one final point. Some of you know that I attend a church where a number of Crew players have attended (some still do). I've mentioned it in passing, when and as appropriate, to the general discussion of what the guys are doing now. But I have *not* used that to write a manifesto for my faith. It's not the right place for that. The most I might have done was noting that one of the guys was leading a trip to assist in Haiti. But again, I would not have use that to write a treatise of how my views were good or better than someone else's on that basis. And you wouldn't want it either. It's called respect. In private? One on one, we might discourse. Had we a thread on religion, we could talk there. We don't and I respect that. It's been mostly fun. See you around the pitch. HHM knows where to find me on Facebook, and I'll still be on the Gladbach board, if permitted.
KG, I stand by every thing I said in that thread. And no one here thought that being happy for Robbie Rogers was in any way political until you complained about Hardhead's very simple request. And I say again... if staying away from gay-bashing was such a deterrent to your posting, I'm not really sure what you had to say to begin with, and I'm not sure it would have been acceptable. That said, the whole thing was kind of sticking in my craw a little bit, and I was still a little cheesed off. So my previous post -- yeah, it was unnecessary and it was kind of antagonistic. So: 1)I hope you're not leaving, because when it comes to the actual on-field stuff, you're one of the best posters here. And 2)If you are leaving, I do apologize for directing a shot across your bow instead of just dropping it. Sorry.
Apology accepted. But I'm still taking a break. And for the record, I am officially neutral. I have to be. Please avoid any "gay bashing" inference. That's a strawman. I just want a fair shake to either side of an argument. Calling someone a "hater" or a "basher" ain't cool. Until they do it. And disagreement on *any* issue does not automatically make one a "hater"--even if one is *sure* they are right and the other guy is wrong. But I've noticed, in general, that "neutral" doesn't seem to be allowed on these board by the general populace as witness any thread that talks about Bob as coach (or if it doesn't, that thread soon will). Go Crew.
