The cheftestants were just announced: http://www.bravotv.com/blogs/the-dish/top-chef-season-10-is-coming-your-way Two are from Denver so I'm quite excited. For some reason they haven't announced when the 1st episode will air yet.
Even though his restaurant specializes in carnivorous dishes (the pad Thai pig ear and brûléed bone marrow are the bomb) vegetarian dishes aren't his kryptonite.
I don't think this dude made the cut. Which may explain his dour countenance; yet not the porn 'stache. Watched all the episodes so far and have yet to be enthused by much -- other than seeing Tom cook with some of the contestants for a few minutes and apparently beating their asses into awe and submission without breaking a sweat. That said, very glad to see the back of the super-irritating crazy lady. Here's hoping she makes a quick exit in the Last Chance thing as well.
Yeah, he didn't make it past the first episode. Ooops! So far it seems the cast are just playing pre-assigned roles from previous seasons. Nothing too exciting.
So Kristen got eliminated and lost in Last Chance Kitchen, but can make the finals thanks to Twitter? Screw that.
That kinda sucks dunnit? (But she is easy on the eye.) In a way I like her coming back, she was sabotaged by Josie but wouldn't bitch on the bitch. Brooke has certainly worked her way through the field winning more than her share of challenges. But it only takes one 'Aw shit' and you're done. It was nice seeing them wander though our back yard. Lots of familier places on the show. Lots I have to take guests to go and see. Pike Place Market is really amazing.
Wow! Sheldon shot himself in the foot there didn't he. Looked like a challenge that he could have handled with ease, then stepped outside his comfort zone and went "Ordinary" Kristen and Brooke both screwed up but Sheldon made it easy for them. If Kristen played her cards right....Nah, she smokes..!
How great will it be if a chef most people haven't watched cook for two months wins Top Chef! What a dumb idea.
It's not a concern about "deserving it" (whatever that means). Maybe she's a super chef. I wouldn't know. She wasn't on for over a month. My issue has nothing at all to do with her, per se. Rather, I think that it is a bad idea for a show to have its winner be someone who wasn't present for a good deal of the show. She's someone about whom I'm completely ambivalent because she hasn't been on the show for weeks and weeks - no talking head stuff, conflicts, stumbles, victories, you know, the shit that is on Top Chef.
That makes perfect sense, but I'm still happy she's in the final. She simply seemed to be the best chef by a good distance, and was wrongly bounced -- although she did fall on her sword. So a certain sense of justice is overwhelming my sense of narrative dissonance.
Justice? Justice?! There ain't no justice here, buddy. I think she is clearly the most "modern"-trained chef. She also seems to have some amount of taste (you know, like tuned in to aesthetics, restraint, flavors. The opposite of this would be Josh, who had no taste at all). But she's not the only one, and it's not clear to me that she is actually any better of a chef than Sheldon (who clearly blew it by cooking quail!) or Brooke or John the most hated chef in Texas or Kuniko. Also, Casey won a ton of LCK's apparently. So that by itself doesn't say one thing or another.
How the hell did Josh make it that far. Very odd. And I am bummed the Hawaii Homie Sheldon had to go -- who could be nicer? Also Kristen seems to have commemorated her win with some new ink on her arm. Truth is I just like her better; Brooke has come on strong at the end and seems like a good person, but she also seems to be just one raw scallop away from a breakdown at all times.
CJ, not Casey. Whatever. Oops! I don't mind Kristen, really. It's just that I'm not particularly interested in her either. I want to eat at last year's winner's (Paul Qui?) restaurant. I want to eat at Sheldon's restaurant (particularly the stuff he did for restaurant wars!). I wanted to eat at Beverly's restaurant (although she has super flamed out since being on the show.). The Voltaggio bros, the dude from that year who was like Josh if Josh had taste and could cook (Kevin?), and so on. I don't care one way or the other about eating at either Kristen's or Brooke's. Kristen does stuff that a bunch of chefs in Chicago already do at a very high level. And I have no sense of what Brooke would cook if she was totally in charge. Ramble ramble ramble.
That was the dumbest final I have seen, regardless of who won. (Even though they gave away that Kristen won in the opening, since Padma clearly was looking to her left when she said who won. Amateur hour.) Top Iron Chef!
That was pretty damn Iron Chef-y. But I actually kinda liked it. They basically played by the same rules, just in front of a ton of people, including friends and family and former winners -- no pressure. I do really wonder if that was as much of a shock as they portrayed it on screen -- the editing suggested those two were very much in the dark about what the actual set-up would be. But other than that, it was pretty basic -- no special ingredients, no killing your own protein, no has-to-be-eaten-through-a-straw crap. I am also giving them some credit for calling the winner before the fourth round -- but unsure. At first I was thinking, 'Dumb, they are simply going to trade off winners until the final round -- fake drama.' However, it seemed Kristen just dominated and they simply called it. Of course the cynic would say, they didn't want to have the dessert decide a winner, but I think Kristen was just better. Plus: Chicken wings -- what a dope. Plus Plus: How crushing is it when you cram 14 ingredients into a seared scallop dish and you get crushed by a raw scallop treatment? Which honestly looked way more delicious. Finally: WHO PICKED THOSE TEAMS? CJ is a neurotic basket case, Stefan is a knucklehead with douchey overtones, the other woman seemed quite good and normal, but English was not her first language and quick and fast communication would seem at a premium. Lizzie and Sheldon were slam dunks. This is actually a great way to look at the show, which I never really thought about. And I pretty much agree with all of that. Called it.
I was afraid of the fake drama after Kristen didn't win the second dish. I was happy it was settled soon after and especially that it didn't come down to the dessert. Of course I was watching the clock and realized there wasn't much show time left so it would be quick. It felt rushed in the end though. I blame editing for that.
