Due to the big roll Trapp will play with the U-20s this year I figure they an he deserve a stand alone own thread.

One reason I don't expect him to figure into this season much. He'll be busy.

On the brightside he will be getting competitive games that mean something. If he was not slated to play much he would be getting reserve game minutes. At least this way he will be playing more.

list of dates so anyone can find them in this thread

    1st round (a 3-team group):
    Feb 18 vs Haiti
    Feb 22 vs Costa Rica

Assuming we make it out of that group (the top 2 advance):
    Feb 26 quarterfinal
    March 1 semifinal
    March 3 final

The 4 semifinalists make it to the World Cup. So basically we will have to win our quarterfinal against either Cuba, Nicaragua, or Canada.

The U-20 World Cup in Turkey runs from June 21 to July 13.

Should we qualify, the draw to determine groups is scheduled for March 25.

    Grammar police: Roll vs. Role.

Roll: "of the dice" "That's the way we"
Role: a part a person plays in a play, team, or organization. Role play.

OK, more like typo police. I do a ton of these my own self.

Any chance any of these games are televised/streamed online anywhere?

Lots of MLS and MLS academy kids here. Every one of the US-based players is connected to an MLS side except Eric Miller (who came from the Minnesota Thunder academy).

Ramos thinks our boy Will could be playing on the full USMNT someday soon.

Very excited to watch these matches. The US Soccer site would be more helpful if Feb. 23 was actually a Friday.

Wil will play USMNT someday, maybe soon. He is technically flawless and therefore supremely efficient.

(boring) ANALOGY: Most posters know how to type to some degree. Very few type exactly as we are supposed to, i.e. always using the opposite pinky finger to hit the shift key when capitalizing, always using the appropriate finger corresponding to each numerical character, etc. Most of us learn how to compensate and/or cheat the documented technique. However, a fantastic typist (100 wpm) uses the strict technique taught in the classroom.

Wil Trapp is that sort of disciplined technician. Everything appears easy because he is doing everything right out of the coaching manual. He strikes/receives the ball with exactly the right surface and method required, not to mention the correct foot. His spatial and tactical awareness is rock solid.

I am neither his agent, nor his friend, just an observer. Have any of you seen this kid play? Crew fans are in for a treat. The only thing that can hold back Wil Trapp is his less than world class athleticism. Seriously. I have watched Zips come and go, for 35 years. Ain’t never seen a Wil Trapp before.

I always thought the same of Mais. His tackling was so technical and perfectly timed it seemed effortless. You didn't notice Mais too much on the field but you sure as hell noticed his absence. I mean that in the best possible way as I thought Mais was destined for a huge career before injuries bit him.

Remember, Mais did get a WC callup and went to France in '98. We stunk, but it was a huge honor for him. And, he played 188 minutes (two full 90's and a sub).

Trapp is gonna be good. How good? His upside is through the roof. His academy coaches love him. They say his work rate and coachability are second to none. That bodes well for him. As with anything though, it's all gonna depend on his opportunities. Does he lose out to Konrad for playing time because he's been away and doesn't "gel"? How can he really play in front of Sanchez or O'Rourke?

To reach his potential, the coaching staff has to figure out how to get him into first team games, and it seems that we are particularly deep in his role.

As previously claimed, I am most assuredly a huge Wil Trapp fanatic.

But even if I were not, Crew front office think of him as young Jesus. Like it or not, right or wrong, he will get significant time on the first team this season.

Winning a couple USOC games, for a change, would certainly help.

And Robert learning how to rotate players every now and then, thus perhaps preventing a September swoon, wouldn't hurt either.

Oh, I know. Bliss loves the kid. All the academy coaches love the kid. And rightfully so. There is no doubt. My only point was, and I don't want to take this down the wrong path and derail this thread, that the coach has to know how to use him and get the most out of him in training, and on game day. He can't turn into another Aaron Horton in terms of minutes. Hell, did Speas even get first team minutes last year (other than Stoke)?
    That's my only point.

I have no problem with him not getting a lot of first team minutes *this* year. As good a player as he is (and he is), the transition from college to pros is not easy. Part of the trouble with the Jackets has been decent talent brought along much too quickly.

Just a reminder on the Speas point, he was hurt for about the first half of the year. That hurt his playing time a good bit.

For sure, he was out until around July if I recall correctly. We then followed that with the post Higuain tear and his best positions were occupied by Higuain, Duka and Meram. It was always going to be hard to break in there especially after an injury
