Apparently, the Rapids Front Office will be charging quite a bit more for walk-up tickets this year. If I remember correctly, tickets in the Terraces in 2012 were $238 for season or $14/match. For the same ticket as a walk-up, it was either $17 or $20 (depending on the team we played and how full the place was). For 2013, the season tickets are somewhat similar, but the walk-up match ticket for the Terraces will be $29 minimum. One can only guess how much more tickets will cost for areas with actual seats and decent view of the pitch (as a walk-up fan). Instead of converting fans to season ticket holders, I'm betting there will be MASSIVE numbers of empty seats for most matches. I'll even bet that we break the record for the lowest attendance. What do you think will happen?
I bought a ticket to the home opener in 108 for $38, which is about the price it was last year. Maybe just the Terrace prices jumped?
Well, I suppose the $17-$20 price for walk-up was close enough to season ticket per-game price that many figured they could just pick and choose games they wanted to go to (walk-up) without commiting to purchase every home game (season tix). You could go to many home games and still save money on the walk-up price.
The Rapids did this for two reasons. The first was to encourage more terrace people to commit to the full-season or the partial-season packages. The second reason was to discourage non-terrace people from buying the cheapest ticket into the building and either sitting down in our section, or just walking around the concourse, making the terrace look empty anyway. C38 already has plans to purchase unassigned season tickets in the terrace, so that we can bring people in without them having to pay the increased prices.
I would add some would end up in section 108 with those tickets from conversations that took place around me.
Ticket pricing by the Rapids remains an attempt to apply a ticketing model that isn't supported by demand. The change strikes me as the wrong solution dreamed up by somebody who took the wrong lessons from their marketing courses.
Individual tickets in 108 are going up as well. I think it is $40 but not sure about that. It is more than last year.
According to the wording that Quinn used in his post I get the feeling that anyone who stands in the terraces has a major incentive to be part of C38. Having only dedicated people that want to be there and want to integrate with the group is better than someone who's there for the cheap seat, or to buy the ticket only to have them move to midfield where I payed twice as much for the same seat. It seems like bad business sense to have those tickets in the hands of anyone but C38 personally Bottom line is join the SG and all the mayhem or go sit in the family zone. The walkup prices for the terraces reflected poorly on the pricing for the rest of the stadium.
This is of course working under the assumption that only the terrace prices are drastically rising and nowhere else. We still have very cheap tickets and I hope it stays that way.
Considering that this club has only been able to sell < 4000 full season tix, this is a huge risk. It will be interesting to see how it plays out
Looking at the Tickethorse site for single-game seats, I see the following prices: Midfield west (127-130): $55 Premium west (124-126, 131-133): $45 East sidelines (102-111): $40 South Stands: $35 North Corners: $29 Supporters (terraces): $29 These seem to have gone up quite a bit, right?
It looks like your right, it doesn't seem like the east midfield went up much if at all. What I take from that is the midfield west will start to be the empty side, and more people would be inclined to come to the TV side. They must be doing the promos/group sales on the east side (guessing).
The South stands are up, though, right? They used to be $25, not sure if that was in 2012 or in 2011. I thought Midfield West was $45 last year. Not sure what Premium West was--$37?
From the 2012 media guide: So by section: +$10 +$8 +$6 +$7 +$1/+$7 (corners and terraces were different amounts last year) As for a season ticket increase I would hope not, but given that my season ticket amount hasn't changed significantly in 3(?) years I'm expecting a bump eventually. Tickets in 108 are a great deal right now, that can't last.
Again New Revenue czar is here, how else can he justify his $100K+ salary. http://www.coloradorapids.com/news/2012/08/rapids-appoint-david-burke-chief-revenue-officer
Seems to me that they are trying to make it more enticing to buy season tickets. If our average ticket sales is 15,000, and only 3-4k of that is season ticket holders that means there are probably a good number of repeat buyers. They are probably hoping to entice/force those people to buy season tickets by doing this.
Maybe so, and it may backfire. I have a neighbor (and I know quite a few like him) who goes to a few Rapids games each season with one or both of his kids. He plays soccer and watches it on TV sometimes too. Knowing him, the middle class guy he is, these walk-up prices will probably seal a reduced attendance or absence at games. Though I encourage him to do the season ticket route, he does not like to "feel" obligated to all home games. I would guess the four-pack games would be met with similar no-thanks since walking up allows a certain amount of freedom of choice and "not planning ahead" is kinda nice. I hope attendance goes up and I am ok with Rapids trying to increase season tix sales, but "cheap" tickets (walk up) are always a nice attraction to a certain kind of fan.
I kind of feel the same way. Though I would hope the people who set pricing know what they're doing? One good thing, even the 5-game plan has heavily discounted pricing. I think they are still pretty good about letting you exchange tickets for the non-blackout games if you miss a game.
