From talking to someone who is extremely knowledgeable on Paraguayan football, he's a left winger/forward who's scored some great goals from outside the box and has excellent control. Says he will do well if he can mentally adjust to MLS.

Here's an interview with him (in Spanish)

2-8-0 formation? Or will we be the first team to ever play a 2-2-6LW-0 formation?

Would be a great addition IMO, and he seems to think it is very close to completion.

You laugh but I found an Argentinian place in Boston so I could try one of those heartattack on a plate sandwiches from the Rivero injury thread ... was going to go there this weekend

If he does, we need to have a multinational sandwich tailgate! To heck with waiving a flag from each country. Waive their sandwich!

We'll also have to learn some chants in Guarani as many/most Paraguayans speak this indigenous language in addition to Spanish.

BTW, there is a new Argentine place in Boulder "Rincon Argentino" at the corner of Arapahoe and Folsom.

On a slightly more serious note, seems he would be a good addition and could play one of the outside forward spots in the 4-3-3 system.

Of course they had one of the all-time whack jobs and a personal favorite - Jose Chilavert. #2 all time goal scorer for a goal keeper! Good at free kicks and PKs. Also wanted to run for president of Paraguay.

Hey, who was the last MLS player with the last name of Echeverria? El Diablo?

I speak a bit of Guarani, having lived a few months just across the border of Paraguay and visited there a few times, so I can help with chants. As for sandwiches, they aren't very common in Paraguay, but he does mention liking asados, chipa, empanadas, sopa paraguaya, and lomito, so there's some typical Paraguayan cuisine for ya.

On a more serious note, it sounds as if "Eche" covers a lot of ground on the left wing and is used to playing at altitude. He's a young player who seems to have really come into his own just recently and even featured for Paraguay's national team in a friendly vs Guatemala. He was also in their most recent camp before WC qualifier vs Bolivia. Could be an interesting acquisition.

LOL. Me too. Spent 2 + years in Paraguay in Peace Corps. Hence change to the current avatar a few months ago. Went to a couple Guarani games in Asuncion back in the late 80s. I was in the Capitol city seldom, though. Would be quite excited to see this aquis. come to fruition. Don't forget the mate and terere!
"Jaha ma Rapids!" - "Let's go now Rapids!"

Subscribe to "Paraguay" page on FB. Will inquire about common chants used in Guarani.

Think his representatives are also talking to Guarani so that looks his most likely destination.

Yep, snowed in pretty good here in Medford. Even if I could dig out my car, the roads are still bad. The restaurant is Tango on Mass Ave near Somerville. What is the weather like where you're at?

I'm in New Hampshire, a little bit west of Portsmouth. We got about 2 feet. Definitely not going anywhere for awhile.
