Walsall born New York Red Bulls coach gives his view on the world ... Birmingham Mail Shell-shocked in San Pedro Sula Soccer America Roy Hodgson urges Frank Lampard to stay in England after Brazil win The Guardian
Is Roy Hodgson for real, he says in regards to Frank Lampard possible move to the United States: "I'm rather hoping we'll still see him if not in England then in Europe, which will make my task easier. If he goes further afield and follows David [Beckham to Los Angeles] it complicates matters but it doesn't mean your career is over with England. But the further afield you go, the more problematic it gets for the media and the England manager to follow you. That's for sure." When has it ever been a problem for the British media or any media to cover Beckham when he was out in Los Angeles, what is Hodgson talking about or is this kind of talk just code for something else?

MLS1FAN When has it ever been a problem for the British media or any media to cover Beckham when he was out in Los Angeles, what is Hodgson talking about or is this kind of talk just code for something else? Yes its code for something else lol, its code for MLS isn't good enough for you to stay on this team. He didn't want to say that publicly so he he said its to far away instead. But that's what he meant. Of course he could keep up with him if he wanted to but he feels and rightly so MLS is to low for him to play in to stay on their national team. He is right it just sucks to hear.
And yet a team with 4 current and more than a dozen-former MLS players finished above the English team in group play at the last WC. Not to mention that the English team brought in a MLS player for 90% of the qualifying run for that WC. Maybe Hodgson needs to take a second look at the league.
Ya right. The same guy who after he took over Fulham, benched Dempsey the following season after the Demps single handedly kept Fulham in the Prem, and out of relegation, the previous season with an audacious strike. Then Demps had to fight his way back into the line-up once more under this guy. Am I seeing a pattern here?
Guys take your MLS blinders off for a second. Yes you are right that we did tie them in the last world cup, and do they rate American players high no they don't but that doesn't make Hogson wrong this time. Name one player in a top 15 fifa nation that still plays on his national team right now and also plays in MLS? Mexico is 15 right now and Gio Dos Santos refused to play here.
Players get called up all the time for friendlies and such but I'm talking WC qualifier on the line team. Guys who made up the team who played Canada most of those are call up guys and most won't sniff playing in Mexico or vs Costa Rica. In the next ten years I think if this brought up again I think it will be only on bias not anything based on truth.
does Carlos Valdes count? I know he is out on loan this minute but just last year he picked up caps while playing for Phili with the current 5th ranked team in the world (Colombia)
I see nothing wrong with a NT manager saying (however non-eloquently) that he prefers his (potential) NT players not playing their club career 5-8 time zones away. There are certain negative impacts of such long travel, and a coach may indeed have to balance and consider his player selections (in part) because of such concerns.
Lol ok fine you are right you named three players. I didn't count Valdes either because he left to chance national team play. My point is most countries want their best players playing in the best leagues and right now MLS for better or worse it isn't considered one of them. Do I think its fair not totally because I feel MLS is a good standard of play not the best but good. Until we match or become better then Liga MX I don't think perception/reality will change.

Diego Calderon. Not that it matters much anyway. England are crap, and the fact they are ranked 6th in the world is laughable.
Not sure what Honduras is, but they have a couple of MLS players that start on their team and they recently beat Spain in a friendly, whooped Canada 8-1, and just beat us in the WC qualifier. Many of the MLS players had parts in all of the victories too.
There is no doubt that MLS is not the EPL. However, Lampard is the player he is. No matter what league in the world he plays in, that doesn't change. So to say that MLS is not a good enough league to draw a player from for the England team is bullsh*t. If Messi suddenly came to MLS, the league as a whole would not be noticeably better, but Messi would still get called into the Argentinean team for every game they played.
