Klinsmann didn't manage the team within the variables of weather and travel. I would say he was a bit naive. He took big chances in his line-up and then again by doing three subs before 70 min. He is like someone who is gambling with money other than their own. Go big and if you fail, so what? If you win, glory is yours. Just a lack of leadership in that line-up. Bradley tried but he was having big enough problems just trying to play his game.
I just don't think the way Klinsmann wants to play plays to the strength of our team and it forces him to try to jam players into roles where they don't quite fit. Also him not trying out new CBs and getting them comfortable playing together until the very last minute was a really poor decision on his part. He should have been working more CBs into the lineup the day he took over, so we wouldn't have guys going out there in a hex game with very little experience.
We need to find a formation that works and stick with it. It doesn't seem like these players are getting any more comfortable with the various systems we've employed.
At post-game press conference, Klinsmann says not enough players played up to their potential— Big Apple Soccer (@BigAppleSoccer) February 6, 2013 OK. Why not? I mean, isn't it the coach's job to get the players performing at (or above!) their potential? I don't know whether it's the fault of the coach or just a general (lack of) character among the players. Or both. In fact, maybe both is most likely. But it sure seems like this has been the story of this team for a while now. And I'm sick of it. Klinsmann's main job right now is to fix this. If he can't ...
Klinsi might or might not yet prove to be a good coach for us in the end, but if it goes south, I expect that Klinsi would be a nightmare of an ex-coach for us. I expect him to throw the entire pool and program under the bus to anybody in Europe who will sit still long enough to listen. One thing I can say is that this team seems to lack a bit of fight. And that's one thing we never lacked under Bradley. Or Arena, for the most part. Or even Sampson, until the WC when he changed everything (and the whole Harkes kerfluffle). Or Bora...
He wasn't exactly considered a smashing success at Bayern and Germany, so I don't think it would matter much. And if he fails to bring the USA to the World Cup, it will be a big blow to his reputation.
I would take Bradley back in a heartbeat. Players would know EXACTLY what was expected of them, and if they were not clear they would be told, face to face, man to man. Same with Arena. Or Kinnear. Or Sigi. Klinsmann has shown nothing as a head coach for us. There is no reason for patience - it is abundantly clear that he is the wrong man for the job
It would have been absolutely amazing if the players played up to their potential given so many going from winter in Europe to 90 deg with high humidity. Add onto that the travel across 4 times zones and playing in hostile environment, you would think that Klinsmann would have built into his game plan contingencies that the players would most likely NOT play up to their potential. If he was expecting business as usual, then that is very wishful thinking.

For all that wanted Jozy to start and play a whole game... you got it. For all of those that wanted to replace the 'over the hill Boca'... you got it with Gonzo. For those that wanted to see Kljestan given signifigant minutes, you got it (in for EJ).
But you can put players out in a scheme that lets them play to their strengths and have some clear idea of what they are supposed to do. You can make a player selection that leaves you better options off the bench, including some change of pace speed. (Gatt, any one?) Instead you sub one of the slowest guys on the squad, Sahsa (a very good deep mid and passer) and PUT HIM ON THE WING. Really? Yes, players got tired. But this disaster lies entirely with the coaching. We never should have been in the position of having to chase the game the last twenty minutes
Hard for Jozy to do much with what he was given today. He played pretty hard considered he was stranded for like 90% of the match.
Other than Kljestan, did anybody want that? And I don't mean that as a slam on Kljestan, who I think gets a lot of crap for being a guy who always has to play out of position, as a sub, for the US. I'd just be shocked if there were more than, say, four people around here who thought Kljestan should get more time on the field.
For the record... I didn't want any of this to happen. Jozy was ok, Gonzo was ok, but I'm fairly confident that Herc and Boca in their spots would have led to a better result.
Yea. I mean he has promise...but on this team, the way it's being run.... Gomez for me was the clear starter for today. Jozy just doesn't know how to make the most of his runs and energy he uses out there. Ironically, I think he and Gomez would work best together...but you don't play them on the same field away from home. Either way... people got to see Jozy finally get a full 90. We'll see more...but today for me, this was the wrong guy playing up top for us.
I think so... many feel he has been ignored, even though he was one of our players playing at one of the best teams, club wise. I never rated him, but got crap for it. Now I think it's fair, to throw in the towel on him. Time to move on to others...
