Charlie Davies looked like he was going to be a star when he first broke onto the scene a few years back. There was a time when it looked like him and Altidore would play up top together for multiple world cup cycles. Obviously the accident prevented him from playing in the 2010 World Cup but I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen Davies at least get a look in one of these Camp Cupcakes. He's a bit of a headcase but he played well for DC United in 2011 and he has proven that he can play at the international level. I really hope he gets another opportunity.

    You never say never......................

Charlie Davies is very far from the national team right now, though.

He's a bench player on a mediocre Danish team.

Why? He's a speed player that lost that upper gear of speed.

It's kind of like when Beasley lost that upper gear of his speed. He's still a pro, he's still a good player, but his USMNT opportunities have really dried up.

Did it ever occur to you that even with the grace of God that he isn't dead and the likely millions of dollars spent on his medical care and rehabilitation, that he just might not ever be the same player that he was?

How is he a "head case"?

No, actually he hasn't proved that, perhaps he can again someday. Maybe we should see how he does at Randers before starting another thread.

He might not be the player he once was but he played well for a spell in MLS. Even if he's not the player he once was why wouldn't you at least give him a look in a Camp Cupcake? I'd rather see him than say Wondolowski.

And he hasn't proven that he has international quality?

You know, we have this thing called 2013. You should look into it.
I'll be sure to look for your advice when I'm named to succeed Klinsman
    Pre-crash, yes. Post crash, no.

When did I say anything relatively close to that? All I'm saying is that I would like to see Davies get a look with the national team at a Camp Cupcake and I want to see if other people think his career with the USMNT was over or not. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

This is the most reasonable response you will get to your question. Lack of PT at Randers is troubling.

I understand. I was just wondering if people thought that he could still get back into the picture.

Ok, that is a reasonable assumption, because we don't have a ton of amazing forwards knocking at the door. However, think of this. Nobody is ever going to be productive in a camp cupcake offense. Not even Jozy, or Clint. Why? Because our B- team is pretty bad. Did you see the last couple years. If he is ever going to get another look it will be with the full team or in the Gold Cup, where again he would probably look bad. Why? Because or Gold Cup team probably is not going to be very good. In fact, we will probably lose the tournament again.

So no, Charlie doesn't deserve a shot. He needs to earn his shot with the full national team if he wants a shot. That means not getting red cards in the Danish super liga. Oh, and scoring. That's generally a prerequisite.

Even if he did not impress on the field in a Camp Cupcake JK would at least have an opportunity to see him in training which could be valuable. I would love to see him on the Gold Cup Roster.

You didn't, but obviously don't have very good reading comprehension.
And here I thought players had to earn a call up, not just get gifted one because of how good they played before they almost died
No need to start a dumbass thread either?

Someone's in a great mood today. If you don't like it then don't read it. What a concept! Yes players earn callups, I'm asking whether or not people thought Davies will earn another callup. That is all. Sorry if I offended you lol

It is a bummer that he doesn't get more time at Randers when he was playing "ok" at DC United. I think he needs to bite the bullet and come back to MLS and get more playing time. I don't see him making the US National Team by 2014.

I am close to saying he is done but just not there yet.

I never would have thought Edson Buddle would be on the WC 2010 team and he found a way in.

If that is possible, anything is possible in my book.

Well, I think you've asked a reasonable question.

Our forward pool is so shallow that all of the players are under consideration.

When Charlie was at DC, playing, and scoring goals.................there were indeed people considering whether we should call him up to Camp Cupcake.

However, he hasn't played much with Randers since his DC days. He hasn't done anything to push himself back into the picture over MLS players such as Will Bruin, Juan Agudelo, and the guys who made it to camp.

If Charlie can get his mojo back, I don't see why he can't get back into the picture. Why not? We just used Alan Gordon in a World Cup Qualifier after all.

    Actually I am.
Sometimes, when you post things on the internet, you don't get the response you want. I'm sure, somewhere, there's a Charlie Davies fan who thinks he's someday going to recover too. You two can get together and urn a tumblr or something.

You got your answer, dincha? Why the butthurt?

You didn't, don't worry. Now run along and find that special someone

The thread title should be "Is the USMNT done with Charlie Davies?" The current answer is yes. Close the thread, please.

    Yes.

...At least for the foreseeable future. He's far from the NT right now. If he starts scoring goals somewhere though anything can happen.
