Agreed. I just don't know what Garth considers young. I also have a hard time believing someone 'young' would be a #2 for us. I posted players that aren't old.

Garth also said he wants to build this team to make another 3 year run. I figured he'd want someone that was a proven goal score rather than a potential goal scorer.

The word is he'd like to come to RSL but is afriad of the Jerry Sloan type style of coach from jason Kreis. He's afraid he wont get the playing time he needs to develop.

He's young but no very tall and he won't out run anyone on RSL .

Not when the 8-10 day, 1-2 week estimate is put out every week all summer long.

It's the same time frame no matter when you say it. 8-10 business days is 2 weeks. However, saying 1-2 weeks is easier for the crowd to swallow than 8-10 days. That's all I was saying.

Also, where are you? If you're enjoying the summer right now, I need to come visit! I'm sick of the snow.

In S. America there can also be 3rd party rights owners. In addition, there are often other teams in competing for the player. It's not like RSL just goes down to the local Professional Soccer player market, and haggles over the price. The players often have multiple options.

I'm convinced that RSL discusses this with the player and agent early on, and swears them each to secrecy.

Before Liga Postobon drew to it's close in December I researched all the forwards on the roster of each of the teams. I then watched certain players over the winter break and followed the movements of those who were out-of-contract. It was a huge list in the beginning, but in late December players began landing in spots right and left. In the first week of January I started taking a much deeper look at those who were still OOC, and began asking around. A number of Colombians who are RSL or MLS fans helped out, but primarily ChiquiPalaez.

As I hear more about the quality of the player they are looking at, I'm not so convinced that it's one of the OOC players. I think it's someone a bit more high profile, likely a player that hasn't been playing in Colombia or one who is under contract and would require a transfer fee/loan. I'm also hearing that as of last week they were talking to at least two players and only one was Colombian. I've also heard Javi Morales may have an acquaintance (presumably Argentine) who may have at least been considered at one point (whether still in the mix or not, I don't know).

Both were on my initial list. Cano is very interesting to me for two reasons. First, he scored 10 goals on 16 shots in 18 appearances during the Clausura. Second, he's originally from Lanus which is where Morales cut his teeth. Could there be a connection? (see above)

Renteria is quality as well. I'm not sure of the situation, but I think he's back with Nacional. He was described to me as a mix between Espindola and Findley, fast and powerful.

I do not miss the old "60 to 90 days" crap that the Metros under the leadership of now Philly grandpuba Nick Sackiwetz and Alexi Lalas used to shoot off every time a deadline was needed in a press release.

Also, I am surprised with Sabo's Central American connections, why RSL isn't involved in the Great Honduran Player Acquisition that all other MLS clubs seem to be hot on.

    What more info? More here:

Sabo has no connections in Honduras, plus RSL will probably sell their discovery rights again.. Mario Martinez said hello in the meanest of ways with that volley.

The "excuse" Lagerway gave at the town hall meetings doesn't sit well with me on this guy - even if it logically makes sense.

I just don't get why RSL would waste one of their few (there actually is a limit...?) "tags" on a guy if they didn't think he was actually going to be worth more than the league minimum or close to. It was justice that Martinez hammered that volley home. You could tell Mario wasn't happy about the whole situation that played out in that game.

Like any of the other MLS clubs have Honduran connections? We at least have the captain of a close by nation.

But agreed, RSL would trade it away for a sandwich and a soda pop in any case.

The Colombian Soccer Federation also tweeted out when asked that the team showing interest was said to be RSL.

Could we really be 8-10 days from a signing for real! Real? 25 year old striker that played in Serie A sounds promising.

I agree. He sounds very promising. I'd be excited if this was our "forward X". Obviously the process is going super slow to sign whoever it is. Garth on the radio today sounded frustrated with how long the process was taking. I also listened to a short audio clip that was of Uribe's current coach at Internacional, Juan Carlos Osorio. It sounded like he wanted to try to hang on to Uribe through the season, which I'm assuming means the Clausura.

Again, I have no idea if Uribe is the guy, but the articles, tweet from the Colombian Football Federation, and Osorio's comments make it seem possible that this could be our guy. I'm no "source", nor do I have any "insights", just sharing the information I'm reading, with some of it coming from KIR. :) Take my post for what it's worth. :)

So KIR just said Uribe is NOT the guy. I'm done researching and playing the rumor game. :)
