Agree to a certain extent. However, she really needs to learn a little self control and respect. Of course, if you haven't been taught to respect authority, you might as well just take 30 days to learn it - Adios!

at this cost, I'd rather she learn the lesson elsewhere

$69.66 a day to feed, clothe, house, educate and provide medical services for an inmate at any state facility

Well, well worth it- bitch might learn when not to use her mouth next time. I'd have sat her for 60 because I could.

No sympathy here. Darwin articulated what tends to happen to a species' stupider creatures. In that light, 30 days' confinement is getting off easy.

I've been a soccer referee since 1984, a big big part of the job is to know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em...doing what this Judge did on a soccer pitch will surely get you assaulted.

Yeah but he's a judge. Nobody's going to hit him.

The Philly policeman who pulled me over for a routine traffic violation was needlessly provocative in turning red, sticking his head through my window into my car, and yelling at me while placing his hand on his gun. But strangely, I neither gave him the finger, nor did I assault him.

If she doesn't end up in his courtroom, he can't very well bait her, now, can he?

If there was any indication that she didn't respect him up front (I'd say four years if U-grad plus law school and enough positive service to receive a judgeship fills that role, no? Yes.), then he was patient. If you've ever taught middle school without the ability to admionister corporal punishment, you understand where people like this woman come from.

He must be familiar with your BigSoccer posting history!
Questioning the legitimacy of his birth, and implying that he had sex with his mother, were not reasonable alternatives!

    Had to Wiki the dude.

Being a college student in Philly during the Rizzo years is the closest that a white person can get to feeling black. The police were threats, not protection.

Which reminds me of the original Pauline Kael review of Dirty Harry, in which she wrote that the film was false because anybody growing up in San Francisco knew that the police was the enemy, that contrary to the film's portrayal the cops were not the good guys, they were the bad guys who were to be avoided.

Overall, I think city police forces have improved tremendously over the years.

short of an occupying army, not sure it could have gotten much worse...when Philly burned down an entire neighborhood you knew that it went way over the edge.

That actually wasn't Rizzo, but rather Wilson Goode, who was Philadelphia's first African American mayor.

Not to say Rizzo wasn't a wanker, of course.

Yeah maybe he took it too far. The threat of jail time and making her sweat about it for a bit probably should have been enough. But hey, she should have watched "My Cousin Vinnie".

Problem is, there's a line of 'ladies' behind her. If they hear, "I just told the judge to go eff himself, and he didn't do nothin' about it!", it's all downhill from there.

That's pretty much my thinking. A judge can't let flippancy or the flipping of birds happen. And it's not because of his ego, it's because of his office. That office can't be disrespected. He owes that to other judges, too, not to mention the guys working in his courtroom. Their day would suck more than his would if things got out of hand.

oh man Yossa...did you happen to read his original quote to me?
if so, you should have been able to figure out that it's about dealing out what is perceived to be some kind of necessary "justice" for the action in question.
