I doubt we will have a new coach by the time this game comes. No idea what to expect, standard 4-4-2 maybe? Your guess is as good as mine
It's very unlikely we will see a new coach for this game. As to the formation I would like to see the following: Formation: 4-2-3-1 -----------Stekelenburg------------ Piris--Marcos--Castan--Torosidis- ---------DDR---Marquinho-------- -Lamela-----Pjanic-------Totti----- -------------Osvaldo---------------- GK- Maarten Stekelenburg RB- Ivan Piris CB- Marquinhos CB- Leandro Castan LW- Vasilis Torosidis DM- Daniele De Rossi DM- Marquinho RW- Erik Lamela AMC- Pjanic LW- Totti ST- Osvaldo This is a conservative approach that can create plenty of scoring opportunities if done right while also keeping our goal secure.
It is not conservative. Osvaldo, Totti, Pjanic and Lamela aren't defensive enough. Replace Marquinho with Bradley or another defensive minded midfielder and the it makes sense.
Pizarro played next to DDR in that formation under Luciano. Florenzi or Marquinho could do it... even the greek. Bradley would back up DDR and be a high energy defensive sub. I like it but that left side looks awful weak defensively, Balz would need to play LB if Totti is LW....
You'll get ripped apart there...If I were you I would play: -------------Lobont-------------------- Torosidis---Marcos---Castan----Dodo ---------------De Rossi----------------- ---------Bradley---------Florenzi------ ----------------Pjanic------------------ -------------Lamela------------------- -------------------Osvaldo------------
As far as I'm concerned the only 4-2-3-1 that won't be ripped apart looks like this: Stekelenburg Piris - Marcos - Castan - Torrosidis De Rossi - Bradley Lamela - Pjanic - Florenzi Totti Totti doesn't have the legs of 6 months ago and is not able to track back with certainty. This leaves him free to not have too. You can't have both Totti and Osvaldo on the pitch not tracking back. Alternatively you could try this: Stekelenburg Piris - Marcos - Castan - Torrosidis Bradley - De Rossi - Florenzi Lamela - Pjanic Osvaldo With Totti as a super sub. Or you could try this: Stekelenburg Marcos - Burdisso - Castan Piris - De Rossi - Florenzi - Dodo Pjanic Lamela - Osvaldo With Totti as an alternate to either Pjanic or Osvaldo.
This would be my formation too. Gazzetta dello Sport said today that this will be the formation used by Andreazzoli
It would be incredibly ironic if Osvaldo became the victim of Zeman's firing. Many in Roma are accusing him not putting in effort and playing against the coach. Back at the start of the season he was put out one weekend because Zeman said he wasn't taking training seriously. Then before Bologna Zeman said there was a discipline problem and lack of effort in training. So if Osvaldo becomes a sacrificial lamb so we can fully embrace "give the ball to Totti and hope for the best." You just have to take a minute and chuckle at it. One, Zeman is the guy who halted his sale in the summer. Two, for all is romance with Totti he would become yet another striker marginalized at Roma because of the striker-less system. Joining the good company of Montella, Luca Toni, and Marco Borriello. Three, I personally could totally see him playing against Zeman and in which case it would serve him right. Personally I would avoid the 4-2-3-1 like it was a plague. For starters I believe it's being suggested for all the wrong reasons. Secondly it makes you dependent on a player who, while being magical, is just too old. Doing a 4-3-2-1 or a 3-4-1-2 makes a lot more sense if you look long term.
I would love to see the 3-5-2 ---------Stekelenburg Marcos - Burdisso - Castan Piris - De Rossi - Florenzi - Toro --------------Pjanic ----------Totti - Osvaldo Totti and Pjanic swapping positions and still using the wings as much as possible
sure he confirm the spalletti's form, 4-2-3-1 i hope stek torsidis-burdisso-marquinhos-dodo derossi-bradley lamela-pjanic-totti destro
that's what i would suspect too. if anyone were to hit the default button, that diagram would be our formation + starting XI
me too, but we don't have enough depth at CB. what happens if one of burdisso/marcos/castan becomes injured/suspended, or even worse, 2 of them 3-4-1-2 should be left as a backup/alternate formation, but not our starting/default
Good point. Considering that, I'd go with the ever solid 4-3-1-2 . 4-2-3-1 could work but then you have both ozzy and destro on bench and that wolnt fly
Why would you have Ozzy and Destro on the bench? Why wouldn't Totti play behind the central striker? I mean, Totti drifts very deep anyway. If you put Totti at the top and have Pjanic behind him, then I feel like it constricts Pjanic. A 4-2-3-1 could work. The 2 central midfielders will be out of De Rossi/ Bradley/ Tachtsidis. The three attacking players will come out of Totti/Lamela/Pjanic/Florenzi/Marquihno. An the striker is Osvaldo/Destro. The thing with a 4-2-3-1 is you won't be seeing Bradley playing as high up on the pitch. The defensive-minded midfielders would stay back and protect the back line more.
Totti can play anywhere in that band of 3, he can play a Zeman-esque RW or LW, or he can play in the middle as a classic 10 i second the 4-3-1-2 though. this puts Totti in his favorite position. and we can rotate Lamela/Osvaldo/Destro up front. and it suits our energetic full backs well
I have a bad feeling we are gonna see a Burdisso - Castan pairing the remainder of the season. Would love the 3-4-1-2 formation but we have no depth in CB area.
LE's 4-3-3 was somewhat a 3-4-1-2, with DDR dropping back to sweeper and with Totti tracking back just putting that out there
That was usually only when we had possession though. Without possession under LE we folded into something similiar to a 4-1-4-1. Formations vary drastically in different phases.
