  3. This guy has few options aside from pub leagues and the 3rd division in Ucannastan. That's what happens when you wash out in the 4th tier of English football. He likes to surf and will want to play at home for LA. Either LA pays up for the rights, he accepts playing here with, or without a "Wilman Conde" attitude, or he plays in a crap league abroad. If he ever wants a big payday he needs to get back on the national team radar.

My understanding he has options from more than one london based club. And it really doesnt matter if he does or doesnt, at least give the guy a call at some point in the process. It helps to know whats on his mind to see if he is interested and to at least give him the heads up before he reads it on twitter.

Rogers knows damn well how the league works. He parted ways with Heerenveen and went through the lottery process when he entered MLS back in 2007. The Fire acquired his "rights" and they will have the right to first refusal. If Rogers is unclear on how the league operates then it's on him and his agent. If he wants to play in MLS, he'll have to get with the program. Otherwise he's free to test his options overseas again.

Thats not the point, and Rogers makes it clear he does understand the rules. The point being is that the FIRE had made no contact with an out of contract player they traded for.

Exactly. Oduro for Duka is a stupid ********ing trade. So the value is in Rogers. It would be nice if someone actually, you know, CONTACTED Rogers to see if he had any interest in coming back to MLS and therefore, to see if that component of the trade was worth more than a bag of balls. This appears to be ineptitude to the nth degree.

So, Ralph and Rolfe want to play over seas and they are free to go. The Butcher became interested in another opportunity is South America and we are only too happy to facilitate his move because, "that's what the player wants to do." Oduro gets more than 1200 minutes last year and is unhappy that he isn't starting, so why would we possibly stand in his way? Surely there must be a team in our own ********ing conference who wants him right? Because that is what the player wants?

Now we read this and the prevailing view is "******** Rogers, he knows the deal. He can put up or shut up?" It's a big soccer world out there. He won't have any problem catching on with another club in Europe if he isn't happy with the way MLS passes around his rights like a bubble gum card. And why should we care? We got ********ing Dilly ********ing Duka.

  10. do we have any evidence the fire didn't contact rogers (and no, I don't take his tweet as proof)

What would be his motivation for tweeting that if it weren't true? Twitter (as long as the tweets are real) offers up some of the most honest statements out there.

  12. where in rogers tweet does it say the fire didn't contact him?

More specifically, the Fire could have called him a week ago before the deal was finalized to gauge his interest. The tweet seems more about whining about MLS rules than anything.

The evidence we have that the Fire did not contact him is right there in his twitter post.
The Fire have no obligation to contact him cause he isn't even an MLS player.

I look at it as we traded Odura for Duka and Columbus threw in the rights to Rogers to sweeten the deal. If anyone should have given Rogers a heads up, it should have been Columbus.

Rogers was released by Leeds United (one league down from the Prem) and based on his tweet, he 1) has solid offers in the UK and doesn't give a rat's ass which MLS club owns his rights, or 2) he's a dumb ass who can't open his fat mouth without sticking his foot it.

Premptive strike: Yes, he can be both 1 and 2.

You're correct , it doesnt say he wasnt contacted. It simply implies he learned of it through "reading" about it.Doesnt say where, or from whom.

Youre right in that they have no obligation, but for their own self-interest they have a responsibilty to check in with him.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about Columbus or their interests. Before making this deal, the Fire need to know what they are getting. The rights to Rogers have value if they contact him and he says he is ready to come home, even if he doesn't want to play for us. His rights have no value to us if he is adamant that he is staying in Europe as long as he can and that he has no intention to play in MLS any time soon. So, if anyone should have given him a heads up and assessed where his ********ing head is at, it is us. Plain and simple.

Did anyone watch the Bo Jackson 30 for 30? The Royals did a little leg work and knew that Bo did not like the Tampa Bay owner who basically killed off his college baseball career. With actual knowledge and a hunch, they drafted him when everyone thought they were nuts. Same story with the Oakland Raiders. Those teams dug for information about a player and got a steal. This is the anti-Bo Jackson story. It looks like we didn't even contact an out of contract player to gauge his interest before trading for his MLS rights.

  19. kind of amazing you guys are getting all this information out of a 104 character twitter post

There is room for different interpretations about what he wrote. But its pretty clear that he did not know that this trade was in the works.

We didn't acquire Rogers, we acquired the "rights" to Rogers. There are reports saying that the Fire will probably end up moving his "rights" to L.A. If Rogers wants to end up in L.A. he had better stop acting like a douchebag on Twitter because the owner holds a grudge. Ask Lider Marmol.

Rogers wasn't traded, his "rights" were traded. What the Fire choose to do with those rights, if they become actionable, is to be determined.

Wow, barely coherent and overwrought. Quite the combo.

The Fire/MLS sold Ralph high to Rubin Kazan. Ralph hurt his knee shortly thereafter and hasn't really played anywhere since.

Rolfe was out of contract, wanted to try something new, didn't like it as much as he thought, and came back.

I have no idea who "The Butcher" is or what he did in South America.

We were lucky to be witness to Oduro's "Bright Shining Season" but he isn't as good as he thinks he is. If he's going to mope because he's not getting the time he thinks he deserves then it's time to move on. I loved his speed and his enthusiasm, but it just isn't going to work again like it did a couple of seasons ago.

How is the Fire acquiring the rights to Robbie Rogers, if he decides to return to MLS, similar to being passed around like a bubble gum card?

Some folks rate Dilly Duka. I've never seen him play. I have no idea what is going to happen. But there is nothing out of the ordinary about an athlete not being consulted before he's included in a trade. It's sort of the standard way it happens. Consulting a player is actually out of the ordinary. Only players with no trade clauses or esteemed veterans get consulted before they're included in trade. Since the Fire may have only been interested in the rights, it still remains to be seen whether they're as incompetent as you think them to be.

Wow, over react much, BigSoccer posters/soccer bloggers? (Of course, that is one of the prime directives of BigSoccer and blogs).

Thank you, that was my sentiment exactly.

Anyone, almost literally anyone, can get on twitter and rant any crap they want.

Also, this has little to do with who is running the team. There is nothing in his post that says he was not contacted prior to the trade. We'll wait and see what happens.

Besides, he wasted three of those precious characters when he called it "the MLS," a cardinal sin in MLS fandom.

The reason why this is the "anti-Bo Jackson story" is because Dominic Oduro, Dilly Duka and the rights to Robbie Rogers have no business being included in any discussion regarding Bo Jackson. Bo Jackson is a once in a lifetime athlete. The other three are MLS journeymen, at best.
