You all skipped a step, the expansion forum. Cosmos is there. Now is NASL Virginia that needs a forum.
Ever since Indy was on the short list of 2022 World Cup sites (had USA not been jobbed by FIFA) I've been hearing rumor/innuendo about a high visibility friendly at Lucas Oil Stadium. Anyone heard of that? I'm sure it would be more likely in 2014 when our Brickers start play, but would love to have a game here in 2013 as well.....
I have heard nothing, but would be stoked to have one...might have to take the week off work for a friendly in my own city.
Good job. Now we have to stay enthusiastic for 14 months until the first game. I've read a few concerns about Carroll Stadium being a viable spot, and hopefully they can create something worthwhile there, but I just have a sneaky suspision that when a new venue/location is chosen they will get it done. The team is owned by a person who owns a construction and development company. They are accustomed to working with the city. They have an ever growing fan base that is chomping at the bit to watch a game. Anyone know what's going on with the RCA tennis center? How is the tennis tournament recieved as of late?
Not sure about an intl friendly or wcq/gc match but Peter has talked about having an intl club game that would include a top Mexican side and an EPL side. Whether or not it pans out this summer we shall see.
The carrol stadium isn't a concern to me. The render looks good and is only temporary. But it's been posted that the RCA dome location and the old GM plant are the locations discussed. They both have perks and devotedly are not defined but love the talk.
do you ever think lucas oil could be viable to play if indy made the jump to MLS someday? I am not familiar with Indy at all and don't know where it is in relation to everything but if the support is there could it work? how many people does the lower bowl seat? from the looks of it it look like an intimate environment.
On the stadium issue, here's something I posted on the old expansion thread, minutes before this forum was created and everyone moved here: A couple of notes on matters raised upthread: I assume that the reference to the RCA Dome was meant to be to the RCA tennis stadium, as the RCA Dome site is now occupied by an extension to the convention center. The tennis tournament is no more, and the tennis center has been demolished. A portion of the outer courts area has been taken by a parking garage, but much of the site is vacant. However, I don't think it's a viable location for a SSS--it's fairly narrow, and I don't think a SSS would fit. (Indeed, I just did a test using a graphic taken from Google Maps--while the field area from Carroll Stadium (just the field, not the track or the stands) would fit on the old tennis stadium site, it would leave virtually no room for stands). Wherever the new stadium is to be built, it will have to be elsewhere.
This will change so that Indy is in the NASL Expansion forum, VA too when its ready. Meanwhile, enjoy your new forum!
The plan is to place temporary bleachers and hospitality tents on the track, not modify the whole stadium.
Well the owner has already started the process of building our own stadium with room to expan to 22k assuming we get to that point. Lucas Oil is an option for potential summer friendlies tho Still, anything is possible. I just don't think so
You are right Jeff about RCA. I don't recall the acres at the location but its enough to hold a SSS. However the old GM plant is over 100 acres which offers more room to expand and hosting practice fields. As for Carroll, from what I've heard the temporary changes are removable.
I drive by Carroll Stadium multiple times during a typical week. I'm already getting impatient. Can't wait.
