The league has reported that the Spirit will get an extra free agent signing (five instead of four) due to the uncertain status of Ashlyn Harris. The Spirit themselves have reported on Facebook that they've signed a "starting quality GK".

*very* nice pick up by them. Any word/idea why she wasn't allocated in the first place?

She's been injured, and it could be that Canada didn't want to short-change a team in NWSL?

Are the Spirit ever going to release their free agents? I really want to know what gk they signed. I'm really hoping it's Henderson!

Chantel Jones - GK with Virginia and with youth national teams (U-16 to U-23).
Ingrid Wells - MF with Georgetown, U-20s, U-23s. 5'2", so keeping with the Spirit tradition of petite midfielders.

    Supplemental draft:

    1. Stephanie Ochs - Forward from San Diego. Third overall pick in 2012 WPS draft.
    2. Tori Huster - Midfielder from Cincinnati by way of Florida State. First pick in second round of 2012 WPS draft.
    3. Jordan Angeli - F/M/D from Colorado by way of Santa Clara. Picked 16th (halfway through the second round) of the 2010 WPS draft, she had a sensational season, becoming the first rookie named Player of the Month in July. But she tore her ACL early in the 2011 season and was out for the rest of the league's existence. If she's healthy, this is a steal.
    4. Natasha Kai - Forward from Hawaii. Kai has 67 caps and 24 goals with the USWNT as well as strong seasons in WPS for Sky Blue in 2009 and Philly in 2010 - another steal if she's healthy and wants to play professional soccer again.
    5. Megan Mischler - Forward from Moon Township, PA, via West Virginia. Played six minutes as an emergency replacement for the Boston Breakers in 2011.
    6. Heather Cooke - Defender who grew up in the area and went to college at Loyola. Claim to fame is that she was a regular on MTV's Real World: Las Vegas in 2011.

I still can't get over the fact they drafted someone that was on the Real World. Seriously? She was supposed to play for ASA Chesapeake Charge last year but if memory serves me correctly she never did.

Angeli has tweeted that she's still rehabbing and won't be able to start the season, but should be available later.

I am excited about Angeli. Hopefully, she gets to play this year!

I can't believe that show is still on.
    Who even watches MTV anymore?
Once upon a time, it was a great channel.
    Not anymore.

That channel was great when they had shows on like "Remote Control".
Even "Singled Out" (90's, with Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra) was alright in a cheesy way.
And the music videos back then are way better then the stupid knocked up teen pregnancy shows they have on that shiddy network today.

MTV Buzzkill was actually not that bad.
That might be the last half-ass show they ever had on that network.
Although, I do have to admit I watched a couple of the LFL (Lingerie Football games) about two years ago or so, when they were on. Those ladies clobber the flack out of each other.

On 2nd thought, let's hope Heather Cooke makes the Spirit roster.

Just got an email from the Spirit saying "we're nearing another defensive signing announcement in the near future". Carolyn Blank, maybe? She was excellent for the DCU Women until she got a concussion and had to sit for the rest of the season.

I'm guessing Blank and Kendall Fletcher for Washington's final two free agent spots. Seem like the most likely options who weren't in the supplemental draft pool and who don't seem to be tied overseas right now.

Gerry Marrone (former Sky Blue GM) DMed me to say that Blank was working and didn't plan on playing in the league.

Bummer. Was a personal fave since her days with the Beat.

Well that sucks. Blank was a great player.
I almost created her uniform, but instead went with Ingrid Wells.

Blank and/or Fletcher would have made me very happy.... But Blank is out, and I thought Fletcher was a mid?

Well, "defensive" could conceivably cover a d-mid as well as a defender.

Does Washington get two more FAs? An Equalizer Soccer article from last night made it sound like only one more.

Lauletta made a mistake there. The Spirit have five FA slots and have only signed three (Chapman, Jones, Wells).

Is it "better" to have been drafted in the supplemental draft or signed as a discovery player? I don't understand the difference except for timing and I suppose maybe a priority over discovery players that one might take a chance with in the draft?

The whole draft thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me given that it's bracketed between two opportunities for players and teams to sign contracts consensually.

Maybe discovery players can't be paid as much? Does anyone know?

Fletcher recently signed with Vittsjo in Sweden for 2013.
