And he would be cup tied right? Leaving us with Santos as our only LB option against Bayern?

haha. He has truly been terrible for us, but I would love to suck at my job like Squillaci does - at least from a financial perspective.

Now that would be Awesome. I'm all for a Squillaci or Arshavin role in my job. Get paid big bucks and do eff all.

My guess is Verm will play LB for that match. Monreal would play the PL matches.

It'll be good competition for both of them. And it should mean Santos won't see the field at LB. That's good enough for me!

I don't even care if Monreal is cup tied. Still a good move.

Any actual confirmation on this yet?

that would be my thinking too, especially if wenger manages to sign a cb, or a dm who can play cb.
no, it's good for depth and for us and the club, but, from wenger's pov, a time will come where 1 or the other will start to be unsettled...either his new signing or one of his youth projects.

There are now reports saying the Monreal deal was already set for the summer, but moved up to today due to Gibbs' injury.

At least that's a true sign that Santos' days were numbered no matter what.

Also a sign that the club didn't feel the need for any January moves...

Being cuptied in January means nothing to us. The next 14 league games are far more important than 180 minutes against Bayern.

we'll figure it out when we get there, but I prefer this than signing guys to be back ups. You bring down your squad quality signing back ups to be backups. We found that out with the summer of 2011 transfers.

oh i agree....(plus it'll maybe push gibbs to up the defensive side of his game, as monreal is supposedly good in that area)

Yeah, the Bayern matches are an uphill battle even if we get the best LB in the world. It's much more important to get someone who can help us in the league and FA cup.

Apparently the Monreal transfer was going to take place this summer and Monreal had been learning English in anticipation of moving to Arsenal.

In that sense, it is a panic move since we bumped it up 6 months but this one has been in the cards. This according to Graham Hunter.

    Edit: My bad LSUnited.

    From ESPN:

    "
    Dale Johnson:
West Ham United have just received a bid from an unnamed Premier League club which triggers Mohamed Diame's release clause"

If this guy is so good, why wasn't there more buzz about him at Wigan?
