dude hasnt given a ruckus, and I am sure he attends training every session and tries hard. But what many fans never understand is that this is a business. For the clubs and players. Why should he halve his salary when he has 6 months of good pay left. I get it, even if I dont like it.
it would be understandable for the likes of you or me to swallow our pride for cash, presuming you aren't already a millionaire, but for someone who is already rich to do it seems....well.......let's just say it says a lot about their lack of character.
Wenger is a facking clown if he penny pinches this window. This club is heading foward tkward another decade of mediocrity
Well, isn't it partially management's fault for giving him the contract in the first place? They made the mistake so now we all have to swallow this sunk cost.
I don't understand how Arsenal doesn't cut players. Could you imagine how much money we'd save if cut all the dead weight.
I think it was already looking at that the moment Fabregas signed the dotted line for Barcelona and he brought in fresh air to replace him. Goddamn evil ***** in the club, we could've rolled with Song-Wilshere-Cazorla-Podolski-RvP-Theo and be on top of the league by JUST STANDING PAT.
we don't save anything. we have to pay them full wages for the length of contract remaining, plus we lose any potential transfer fee.
why should it make him different? Do millionaires not like making money? Do you tell Bill Gates that you have made too much? Or Warren Buffet? I feel this discussion is only pointed towards athletes and no one else. Like Gunner7 said, he was offered and signed the contract. Get on the club for offering a guy like Squillaci a contract that is above his real value. Get on Wenger and his crew, but Squillaci has the right to sit on his contract and wait until it ends. It is what he and the club agreed too, and they both knew the risks. you dont save that much money by releasing players. Those players still have to be paid.
People are stupid they always side with management against players and management knows exactly how to manipulate that stupidity. Is it the players fault that wages and attendance cost spiral out of control? The massive TV deals could be used to soften the blow on fans in terms of price hikes but they won't do it. I'm more bemused that incompetents like Gazidis and Law make 7 figures. Again not sure why people are mad this has been a strategy for 6 yrs or whatever long. Sell great or very good players and bring in total trash or marginal players at best. There is not one player brought in who was/is better then his replacement. Not one. So thats the arsenal way, no transfers, screwing the fans and all the while using media to talk up the class of the club. LMAO nothing is better then watching the powerful manipulate the powerless its so damn easy.
Oh wait, Arsenal did say there is a price freeze on ticket prices. That way fans can't be too mad when there is no transfer activity. Or maybe they're working on a grand triple swoop of world class players at the last minute
The problem is that rich people live like the rest of us, they buy houses and cars and have alimony etc., all geared to their current income. If that takes an unplanned nosedive then they are in trouble. I've worked with lawyers for many years and the reason that many of them don't and can't retire at 65 is primarily because they live at or beyond their means. It's sickening but true.
This is so true. My bro in laws classmate is a very prominent b'ball players financial advisor dude makes well over $15 mill per yr and yet he can't afford to live in the areas he wants because his dumbass wife spends too much money. smh yet people would say this guy has it made financially
some people are linking nacho monreal for the lb interest. would probably be a good signing, although cl cup tied.
Is training with Arsenal and trying to get a match more wasteful than playing every match for Brighton or some obscure team in France for half, or less, the money?
Maybe we're waiting until FFP kicks in. If it happens, the first year most of the big teams will not be able to buy and some may have to sell. That is an ideal opportunity for Arsenal to use the cash reserves, swoop in and buy whoever we want with no competing bids.
I'd like to say I'd "keep it real", but I can't imagine saying no to 80k a week for "football integrity".
By this logic, a homeless person would think that you lack character by staying with a job you don't like but pays you well enough to keep you in the manner you're accustomed to (whatever that may be). His reality of money, by what he does, who he spends time around, is very different from yours. I'm not saying that I don't see your line of thinking but the guy undoubtedly has a house (homes?) much nicer than mine...to think that he should want to have a bottom line closer to mine and that would keep things in the manner he is accustomed, is kind of baffling.
We have news!!!!! Spanish newspaper AS is reporting Monreal in London to complete a 10m dollar move to the gunners!
How exactly? I know not everyone has a law degree, but I thought the fact that one can't unilaterally void/rescind a contract in the vast majority of circumstances was common knowledge.
so oklahomagunner, you're saying squillaci has no choice, purely based on finances, than to stay with arsenal and not get to do the thing i presume he loves to do (actually playing football)? that a man with little time remaining in his chosen and presumably beloved profession would happily accept to not partake in the thing he loves to do solely for extra money, when the option to move, to get to do what he loves and still get very, very good money for doing that is available? let's be honest, even a 50% pay cut pays him over £1.2m per year. if an already wealthy player puts money ahead of even actually playing football then they shouldn't be calling themselves a footballer in the first place. they're just pretending and does football need people who aren't even, and who don't want to be, footballers anymore? the bottom line is they've taken the decision to be paid to not be what they claim to be. it's a terrible attitude to have for someone who almost certainly doesn't actually need the money now anyway. the fact that arsenal have a contract with him is a separate issue really.
