Chepo will fade Salcido out, much like he dd with other players we thought sucked. It takes time but eventually he does. We'll be fine. This game sucked balls, but integration is key.

Because if we don't blow everyone out it's time to hit the panic button.

official games are against CONCACAF teams and he is barely giving chances to young players, I bet that if Barrera and Zavala were healthy Aquino and Herrera would be on the bench. And I still don't understand why he keeps trying to play with two CFs if the results are always terrible.

so I guess Maza and Salcido are sure starters vs Jamaica. Salcido always makes it a habit to take long shots. sometimes he's open and takes it and other times he seems to force it. he needs to cut that shit out.

as much as we'd like for Mier or Reyes to bench Maza, its not gonna happen in the hex unless Maza fcks up by gifting a goal or something like he almost did today. Maza tends to elevate his game depending on the opposition or importance of game so lets not be too hard. I would love for Salcido to retire from the NT, as he is past his prime and we should be leaving the midfield to true midfielders like chaton or someone else.

aquino needs to work on his spacing and off the ball movement. he's too predictable at times on the right side.

    herrera was solid.

arce has no business on the NT

I couldn't get worked up or care for this game.

Must be how people feel when the FMF schedules partidos moleros in Azteca and nobody shows up.

I want to see Gullit in place of Salcido, Gullit is the future of our midfield, he's the closest thing we have to a Yaya Toure type. Herrera seems to do best when we're in the final third, but Gullit is a true #6 that will win the ball and power up the field quickly, the guy is a tank too physically. It seems Gullit gets overlooked around here, maybe it's because he wasn't on the Olympic team, but presonally I rate him higher than Chaton atm, and i would say evenly with Herrera as far as potential, Gullit could actually be a little higher because of his size and strength, both are the same age. I respect what Salcido has done for the NT but at this point what does he really offer on the field? He is slower than other options, his passing is worse than other options, basically he's there for his legacy and experience.

The reason Chepo went to the 4-4-2 if you remember is that Chicharo was struggling, his link up play was below par, which meant he was just on an island on his own, hoping the attacking mid's provided something for him. Even at Man U Chicharo always looks better with a second striker (Rooney, RVP), than he does as the lone striker. I think Gio is up to the task of playing that Rooney/RVP role(talented strike partner that will draw the defense, letting Chicharo's movement creating more havoc). This is also the reason the 4-2-3-1 worked so much in the Olympics, Oribe is much better as a poste, which allowed guys like Gio, Fabian, Aquino, and Herrera to link up with him more. Cheech is obviously a great finisher but in the 4-2-3-1 the striker has to be able to hold the ball and play with the guys in behind, not so much with a 4-4-2. We'll see what Chepo does, Cheech has improved his overall play this season, maybe convocamos a Welbeck para el pinche link up play?

We shouldve never started with two strikers up top we don't have the players to do that, I think Salcido, Maza, Aguilar,Ayala, and Arce need to gfto. We need more friendlies I have no I idea why we don't have a friendly in February or at least in the beginning of March

The problem was that you started 2 slow postes, the 4-4-2 could work if you have Oribe as a poste and Chicharo reaking havoc with his movement on the back line. There were signs of it working in the previous qualifiers(with an out of form Cheech). I think to fully take advantage of Chicharo's strenghts, you play the 4-4-2 with Oribe, or Gio, Vela would actually be ideal....pinche pendejo.

Chepo really worried me with his team selection today.

Hopefully it was just to see if some of the old guys still have it and the Euros replace them next week.

A 4-2-3-1 is what we play when Gio is with Chich. It's what we played in the Gold Cup and anytime before Oribe had his breakthrough and Gio has been injured.

The 4-2-3-1 worked in the gold cup against the crappy teams(and USA because they shockingly came out with a gameplan to attack us and leave space in the back), against teams that bunkered down against us (Guatemala, Honduras if I remember), we didn't break through until Aldo came on to play the poste. I'm not saying 4-2-3-1 doesn't work, im just saying Chepo has a valid reason to experiment with the 4-2-2 especially against teams that bunker.

    Meh.

In anycase, the overwhelming assessment on twitter from everyone is that this game was entertaining. And being the debut for the NT on ESPN, that counts for something.

I dont find it necessary to bitch and moan about the NT anymore - Chepo is a stubborn ass sometimes, no need getting worked up over something thats never going to change.

    Pretty forgettable match, overall.

Besides the pk, I fail to see anything else Fabian did well to deserve any praise. I think people want to see him become an integral part of the team so bad that they latch onto anything even remotely positive.

It is my opinion that the guys that are on the fence are the ones that need to impress. Guys like salcido and maza seem to be untouchable so it doesn't matter what they look like.

I thought Herrera and Aquino looked ok.

Not statistically... but Mexico had a better game flow after he was on.... he got touches, had some paredes on the left side that almost broke down the defense, gave pausa at times... accelerated the pace with 1 touch passes at times... Mexico didn't get fully into gear but started going in the right direction when Fabian was on the field.
