Understood. I search the web and saw that but when people started talking about rebranding I got confused.
Rebaño means herd or flock. Chivas Guadalajara is known as the Rebaño Sagrado , or sacred flock, as in a herd of goats. So this is the Angelino flock.
We have a winner! Honestly, former owner Chivas USA owner Antonio Cue introduced the city seal to me a year ago at STH event. What I didn't know at that time is that he planning to rebrand club with more Los Angeles roots. Then, Vergara stepped in and bought him out.
It was becoming passé, then designers everywhere had a relapse. The A's started getting rid of the black in 2008, and the Mets will either have it completely phased out this season or next. The NHL allowing third sweaters again has been a real problem. Carolina's gets a pass, but Phoenix doesn't need a (bad) third when their primary sweaters look that good. San Jose and Dallas' identities are so mucked up I don't even have a witticism to mock them. The NFL's also been pretty bad about BFBS too, from the uninspiring look in Jacksonville to the atrocity in Arizona (a team that gets their name from a color should stick to that color, but marketing guys clearly live on a different planet than the rest of us). I don't think MLS has veered into that territory, yet, but our clubs do have a bit less of a history to worry about. The sport also has a history of creating kits out of thin air. Liverpool wore black against Arsenal today, and I don't think anyone would say that conjures up images of King Kenny and the like. At any rate, I may actually picket Dynamo games next year if we get a black third kit. I don't care that it's part of the visual identity already, passing up the "Space City" Blue opportunity (again) just seems stupid. Oh gotdangit. That's gotta be frustrating.
NYRB has nice colors but that giant RB logo on the chest is what kills it completely. As for best in league I don't think many people would argue that the Sounders are anywhere near that... unless ur referring to the new leaked black kit then yes i'd agree.
The Dynamo are only changing home and away this year, third stays the same. The Blue kits will never happen because SKC and Colorado already use it heavily in their kits. This is straight from the FO btw. If there is a black kit it will be the away kit and will likely only get seen in nationally televised games in order to try and sell replicas. That part in strictly my own conjecture.
Well, they're lying to you. The Rapids didn't have anything more than a stripe of light blue trim in their last kits and the home kit for this year continues that. Our older road kits were light blue but the same year SKC re-branded we dropped almost all the light blue. I don't think that timing is a coincidence.
Take a look at this crest i made. Mixing the old chivas with the LA shield. I updated the colors to match their logo in this quick photoshop.
i'm referring to the maroon one a few pages ago. i didn't know the rapids had an identity (they were trying to protect). there's no way being inspired by a kit would become a copyright infringement issue, there are way too many variables at hand. soccer related art and design is like any other form of art; derivative. chivas' crest tells us this. the 2013 ones recently posted and discussed, yeah i think they're among the best. a lot of people like the black sounders. i can see why the RB logo would bother people. i've never had a RB drink and don't intend to but i still enjoy the colour and graphic element of NYRB
get rid of that silly Chivas USA crap and it's nice. Honestly just the shield of LA would be a very cool logo, could go with the whole LA City sorta theme. Would make our rivalry all the much better and make them look more like a real club and not a bunch of fools
It was a 5 year deal that should have went through the 2015 season. Greenstar apparently wants out of the deal. It is likely because the U.S. portion of Greenstar is having a dispute with the parent company in Ireland. There have been suits and counter-suits involving the former head of the U.S. subsidiary. That's the guy that made the deal with the Dynamo in late 2010. He was fired from Greenstar last spring. The Irish company is also involved in bankruptcy receivership in Ireland. There may be other reasons but those are the things that we know.
Interesting. With as popular as that club is and as successful as they have been on the pitch, it should not take long to get somebody on board. I wonder if the team will manage to get a big name this time around...
This is going to sound super-homery, but LA's recent third strip is one of the best in my very humble and biased opinion -- and largely because it's almost black, but is in fact a very dark blue, called 'punjab' blue by adidas. In a similar vein, I remember Arsenal's very dark maroon kit from a few years back (I think that color had a Gunner's history as well ) looked great and was very distinct from their standard red. Vaguely Related Addendum: Pro: I'll never forget meeting a very attractive woman one night at a party who said "You're wearing my favorite thing -- clothes that look all black but are actually not." Con: Dated her for several months and she turned out to be f/cking nuts.
I've liked that shirt since the first time I saw it, but I liked it because of the gold color all over everything from the team crest to the MLS logo and American flag. That look is pretty badass, and it's a shame that it's not worn more often.
I think he means more about the MLS logo being monochrome. Personally, I think it would be neat to see each team do a variation of the league logo on their alternate jerseys based on their team colors. Houston could have an orange MLS logo. Chicago a red one. Colorado a burgundy one. Seattle a green whateverit'scalled MLS logo. I think that would be pretty neat if they allowed that.
A rumor started today in the Rapids forums that the yet unseen 2013 road kits could be based on the Colorado state flag. Apparently at last word a couple of months ago the design was going through final approvals with Adidas but there was no word on if it past approvals or not.
I didn't mean to rip the use of black in sports gear period. The Raiders look great in it, but it's also their thing. When teams add superfluous black is when it gets annoying (hence the term "black for black's sake"). Even when it's in the color scheme, if you have other gear that negates the need for predominantly black gear, I personally favor that, hence why I dislike the Sharks third jersey (although a lot of that has to do with design; these weren't bad). Black is a part of the Dynamo visual identity, I mostly dislike a black jersey because the blue feels more uniquely Houston and the Halloween look is better left to the Netherlands. That's actually a sharp Gals jersey. As I already wrote, soccer is different from other sports. Unless a team has adopted a consistent third color, it's tough to argue that alternate kit can ruin their identity. Back to the Liverpool example, they've had their fair share of wacky third kits. There's definitely a line (remember the 'Did Everton move back to Anfield?' kit), but where does the outfitter/ club cross it? For what it's worth, I'm not trying to be a eurocentrist; outside the Dynamo, the team I follow most closely is Liverpool. I'm all for creating our own traditions in MLS or drawing on other American sports, but how far does that extend to uniforms? Clearly the massive jersey logo is dead and buried (granted NYRB is a special case), but is there something about this wheel MLS could reinvent? Would it be worth the effort? EDIT: Sorry for the novel everyone... It's not unheard of. MLB allows each club to use a modified version of the logo.
