Right but we have to dish that kind of cash and make a gamble b/c every player signed is a gamble and Ade and Defoe aren't cutting it for us, at least as a pair. We probably would've been in 3rd right now if it was for better finishing from our strikers.

Damiao is being pursued hard apparently and Negredo is the backup according to the papers.

The strikers weren't gifting goals in the last 10 minutes of matches. Though I suppose this is a chicken/egg argument. If we had more goals at that point in the matches, it wouldn't have mattered, etc. etc..

It's true. "World Class" is in the eye of the beholder and as far as Tottenham and Levy go, the truly world class strikers like RVP, etc. just aren't within our grasp. Having said that, we should be pushing for the next best thing.

Some say a third striker is a luxury, but Ade is lazy and not in form, Defoe is great when healthy, but even he may be out for a while, and the fact is that we simply do need a striker. So what is the "next best thing". In my opinion its a natural goal-scoring talent with experience being in a pressure position at the top of the table and playing semi- to regular CL football. So who makes that list.

    1. David Villa ($15m rated): He's 31, experienced, and has taken a somewhat of a reduced role at Barcelona of late. His career scoring rate is 1 goal every 1.9 games and 1:3 over the past two seasons - and those stats are in League play. Defoe is 1 goal every 2.6 games and 2.3 over the past two seasons. So while Villa may be on a slight decline, his overall capability and experience (and the rejuvenation of joining a new league) would certainly help us up front.

    2. Jackson Martinez ($18m rated): With Holtby joining an already crowded midfield, the need to pursue guys like Joao Moutinho is no longer there. And while Tottenham were unsuccessful in their 11th hour bid for him in the last transfer window, there's nothing to suggest bad blood between AVB and Porto. As such, AVB should pursue Jackson Martinez, Porto's "out and out striker" who leads the Primeira Liga in scoring, has tasted CL football (after joining last year from Liga MX), and who has been in the thick of the title race between Porto and Benfica.

Also to note: the fact that Martinez left his South American comfort zone to pursue higher things in Mexico and now Europe suggest that hes a much more feasible draw than Damiao who has, so far, rebuffed any advanced from non-Brazilian teams. It should also be noted that Martinez has score more than twice as many goals in league play than Damiao so far this year.

We need better supply to the strikers and with Holtby we get that.

AVB confirmed that Huddlestone is talking to Fulham, 5 million pound bid apparently.

Willian may be joining Anzi for 29 million. Oh well.

Porto have bought out 3rd party stake in Moutinho, I'm sure unrelated and nothing to do with us :p

Tottenham's desperate attempts to secure Internacional forward Leandro Damiao have seemingly paid off, with ClicRBS reporting Spurs have been given permission to launch a whopping £19.7 million offer for the Brazil international. It's a fair rise from Tottenham's offer of £15m earlier this month and shows how keen Andre Villas-Boas is to bolster his attacking ranks. Damiao has reportedly received the green light from his club to move to the Premier League. Expect the deal to be done today.

we don't really need Moutinho with Holtby now. Of course Moutinho for Huddlestone would be nice :)

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone could be set for a deadline day move across London to Fulham. Andre Villas-Boas confirmed: Villas-Boas said: "There was an interest from Fulham. I'm not sure if they're going to follow on that interest. We've allowed the club to speak to the player. He's a player we rate very highly."

Ajax chief Marc Overmars has confirmed Fulham's interest in Eyong Enoh on Dutch radio. "Negotiations should begin. But nothing is certain," he said.

Presumably an alternative to Huddlestone. Who knows who they prefer, though. I haven't seen much of Enoh, but I think they're pretty different players, right?

Enoh is a pitbull DM, but is lacking in the footballing department and makes rash challenges. He'll probably cost a similar amount to Hudd, so I can't see them buying both.

Yeah that was my impression of Enoh. I guess it depends on whether they want a playmaker or a bruiser and who they can get a deal done for.

Why do we do this to ourselves... every window. You're getting my hopes up for Damiao.

Then I remember Double's sig, "no strikers..." must have been in place 2 years now

Why spend millions on Damiao when we can get Mido for free?! Surely our Daniel can see this bargain.

Isn’t Damiao still in Brazil. Hard(er) to pass a physical and seems silly to gamble he’d pass with no time for back-up options.

If we are serious on him we will have a team at Internacional waiting to give him a medical, probably some office people will be there too negotiating the deal.

Im just concerned on how quiet it is, i thought we were in for more than just Damiao today...
